**That _man!** Syntara tore down the halls back to her weyr. **How _could he?!** She demanded to know just what gave K'reyel the right to say things like that to her! To pawn her off on somebody else like an unwanted gift. }: That's not the way he meant it. :{ Faylith tried to be the voice of reason in her rider's otherwise clouded mind.
**He may as well have! He had no right!** The greenrider practically ripped off the door to her weyr and went straight for her liquor cabinet.
}: You know, perhaps you wouldn't be upset if you didn't feel that somewhere in that conversation, K'reyel had a point. :{ Faylith attempted gently.
**No. Even if I took a tumble with every man in this weyr it still doesn't give him an excuse to assume that I'll do it with just anyone!**
She poured herself a glass of something strong and downed it quickly, enjoying the burning of it. She quickly refilled glass and was surprised when the bottle emptied the last of its contents into her glass. She had thought there was more than that in one bottle. She must have drunken a little more the last time than she realized.
Syntara combed her hair back from her face almost viciously, trying to find _something_ else to be upset about rather than think about what had just happened or think about what Faylith had said - and how her lifemate was right.
The greenrider stood in front of her mirror and looked at herself, earnestly, for the first time since her accident. She was thinner and a little paler than she had been, and now there were circle under her eyes and a dullness to their color. She turned to the side and continued her inspection. She silently wished that she had never come to River Bluff Weyr, had never met Ar'lis, and had never let him into her heart. Then her body would still be perfect and unscarred and she wouldn't be so acutely aware of everything that was lacking in her life.
She took another drink.
