Lanniya

Lanniya

"Soo..." Lanniya approached, a smile on her face. "I hear you're going
to be joining me." She took a seat by Erivana, resting her hand on her
chin."Excited?"

Erivana had been sitting outside, not too far from the Lower Caverns,
watching dragons fly in and out. The greenrider lit up when she saw
Lanniya approach her. She shifted on her rock to make room for the
other dragonrider.

"I wasn't sure what wing I'd wind up in or if I'd be with anyone I
know well, so I'm glad for the queen's wing," she said honestly.

"Well, it's not going to be easy on you, but we'll be glad to have
you." Lanniya tilted her head. "How have you been? We haven't talked
in a while."

"Weyrlinghood was so busy. I know, everyone told me it would be, but
there's hearing it and then doing it." Erivana sighed. "Everything was
just a struggle to make it to the next sevenday, it felt like, until
we'd had all our lessons. I wonder if it will be any easier being in a
real wing."

"Well in a way it is, but in a way it's not. The danger's much more
real, but you'll have more free time." Well, Erivana would at least.
Lanniya's duties were more extensive. "And..." She grinned. "There's
other freedoms outside of weyrlinghood."

"Right, as opposed to drills twice a day, it's drills a few times a
sevenday and then sometimes watch duty or sweeps or things, right?"
she asked.

With a smile at Lanniya, Erivana said, "Technically those started with
senior weyrlinghood, right?"

Lanniya nodded. "Pretty much. And Saibra's a good Wingleader too. "
She winked at Erivana. "Well, yeah. But now you have more time for
it." Not that she had explored much. She had K'ale and was content
with her time with him, though she often thought of F'lin and even
occasionally, Y'gel.

"You're weyrmated now so you're having a good time, right?" she asked.

Lanniya's grin widened and her eyes sparkled with mirth. "There's lots
of benefits to having someone nice and warm in your bed every night.
Besides staying warm."

"It sounds nice," she said wistfully, heaving a sigh and brushing a
strand of brown hair out her eyes.

Lanniya had been a Candidate with her at River Bluff, though she'd
succeeded in Impressing earlier. They'd gotten along well enough. She
felt like she could admit it... "Can I tell you something?"

"It is. Really, really nice." She tilted her head at the sigh and she
wondered at it. "Of course you can."

Erivana shuffled a foot along the stone ground as she said, "I don't
have anybody special in my life like that. I know some girls who had
sweethearts waiting for them as soon as the senior ban was lifted, but
I was always so focused on my Craft, because I started late and all...
So I didn't really do anything with anybody before weyrlinghood, and I
haven't done anything afterward."

"Oh..." Lanniya's brows rose with the realization. "Well, you really
need to. Flights can be really rough, Erivana. I mean they're great,
but the first time.,,the guy needs to be more careful." She chewed on
her lip. "Is there anyone you like or are interested in?"

"I mean, uh, I _have_ had my first time, I know how it works," she
blurted out, defensively. Shards. Talking about this was so
embarrassing. She wanted to melt into the rocks and die.

"I remember all the Candidate lessons about not being a virgin at your
first flight. I mean, my mother sat me down and made sure I'd done it
or was going to do it when I was 17 and do you _know_ how embarrassing
that conversation is with your holdbred ma? She could barely get the
question out so I nodded and just said yes and we stopped talking."

}:Mine?:{ Seryth asked from her position on the ledge in a very
worried mindvoice, sensing her rider's sudden emotional upheaval.

**Awkward topic,** she told her green, drawing on their bond to get
some support to keep going.

"I just haven't done anything with anyone since I lost my virginity,"
she said in a very small, very quiet voice. "And that was almost three
Turns ago."

"Try having it with your grandmother!" Lanniya giggled. "Talk about
embarrassing. I thought she was going to have heart problems and
wasn't going to breath right for ages." She dropped her voice. "I
could help you, you know. I know lots of people." She tilted her head,
thrusting out her lower lip in thought. "Let's see...There's D'ren..."
But she hadn't spoken to him in ages. "Or K'mai. He's cute and he's a
bluerider so he's got tons of experience. J'kri might. He's a blue
too. Or R'axe. From what I hear, he's got even more experience than
K'mai." She tapped her lower lip. "Or, I mean, we could ask K'ale."

"I can't ask your weyrmate, wouldn't that just be wrong?" Erivana
asked with a vague sense of horror.

Lanniya blinked. "No. Not a bit. K'ale's very good at..." She flushed
a little and smiled" making a girl feel good." She nudged at Erivana's
side. "I mean...really good. And I wouldn't mind. It's not like I own
him or anything."

Seryth continued to radiate a sense of wordless concern at her rider.

"Well...I'll think about it, if I can't find anyone else, but. I
should probably stick with one of those blueriders, I mean, blues
catch greens a lot more than any other color, right?"

Lanniya glanced at Seryth and arched a brow. **It's not hurting her, I
promise.** She smiled at the green and turned back to Erivana. "Yeah,
but so do browns." She lowered her voice. "Stay away from some of the
brownriders though, like Ma'din and K'yne. They can be super cranky
and from what I heard, Ma'din can be really rough. He can be seductive
and all, but only if you like that sort of type."

Seryth said to Lanniya, }:Mine is thinking that she is nervous about
flying on the ground, before I fly in the sky. But we have flown every
day and it is always fine. I don't know why she is nervous now.:{

"Oh. I thought brownriders were like, practical and calm. Blueriders
are fun and casual so they should be laid back about it." She shivered
a little. "I don't think I want the rough, gruff type."

**Flying on the ground is a bit different sometimes, Seryth. Yours
needs it for...exercise.**

Lanniya gave a short laugh. "Not always. Some are cranky, some are
grumpy, some are fun and some are charming. Like mine. So find a good
bluerider and pounce on him." She wiggled her fingers. "Pounce and
then roll and...go with what follows!"

}:Oh. Then she should not be embarrassed,:{ the green said, settling
down, happy to have received advice from someone as important as a
goldrider.

Erivana had missed out on the conversation. She said, "I guess I'll
keep that in mind. Uh, is there anything else I should know about
flights themselves? I mean, I don't have to worry about her laying
eggs at least or making sure to choose a bronze for a good clutch,
but."

**No, she shouldn't but sometimes certain exercise is private and
she's embarrassed, okay?** Lanniya managed somehow to keep her face
straight.

"Yeah, they're really intense." Lanniya grinned at the memory. "And
even after the first time, you still want it right after. Your body
buzzes with it. And with the right person, wow..." She had to admit,
even though Y'gel had been much older than she was, his experience had
been very satisfying. "You want to stay there all day and do nothing
else."

"Oh. That sounds really overwhelming." In kind of a frightening way,
if she was honest.

"Is it like that with K'ale too, when it's not a flight? Or is nothing
like the flight?"

"Well, K'ale's never won my flights. But with him it's different. It's
hard to explain. With flights it's like your body is doing all the
thinking. But with K'ale, my head gets in there too. He makes me buzz,
but it's a buzz with my head and body. And really, the flight kind of
buzz is a lot stronger and you can't ignore it. And it's overwhelming,
sure, but it's _really_ worth it." She bumped Erivana with her
shoulder companionably. "Anaeryth only rises like once a turn or so.
You're lucky. You'll get to do it more."

"I guess that's what I was asking, is not-flight stuff with a weyrmate
better than stuff in a flight? Because I don't have anyone I like that
way," which they'd already gone over, "and so it was really
unspectacular when it happened. Mostly I just looked at the ceiling,"
she admitted.

"I don't know, once a Turn sounds pretty good..."

"Ew." Lanniya wrinkled her nose. "No wonder you're out of practice."
She lowered her voice. "Well, you don't _have_ to be weyrmated, you
know. I mean...I've been with one other person besides K'ale and
Y'gel. It wasn't a flight. And it was..." Her lips pursed as she
whistled softly. "Just find a friend. Someone you like and likes you."

"It was that good?"

"Uh huh." Lanniya nodded, almost wistful at the memory. She'd only
seen F'lin once since then and nothing had happened. She kind of
wished that something had. There was a spark there still. She shook
off the memory and focused on Erivana. "Don't worry about it so much
and just find someone you can have fun with. That's how things started
with K'ale."

"That's solid advice. Thanks, Lanniya," she said, still scuffing her
foot on the stone. "She hasn't seemed like she wants to rise yet, so I
guess I've got some time."

"Yeah, you've got time for plenty of practice." Lanniya winked.
"You're welcome."
