Description: Lanniya checks in on a friend
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 9, day 24 of Turn 9
Notes: Mentioned: K'yne, Saibra, K'ale, F'lin
Erivana had had a very busy day. She had talked to the Healers. She
had talked to Saibra. She needed to talk to K'yne. But not this night.
Tonight, all she wanted was to flop into her bed and hold her pillow
and wish she knew what to do.
Seryth sensed her rider's distress, and shuffled on her ledge. She
knew that the problem involved a hatchling? Her rider's? That it was
seen as her fault somehow? The mix of emotions was very confusing and
she did not like it. It made her uncomfortable she could not
understand, or soothe her rider.
Anaeryth couldn't help but notice the distress from the green and
peered out from her ledge.}: What troubles you, Seryth? You seem
distraught. :{ The emotions coming from the green were confusing and
chaotic,
disturbing the young queen.
}:My rider is sick. She was yelled at by Chioneth's rider. And now she
is extremely upset about something relating to a hatchling?:{ Which
was not strictly true that Saibra had yelled but Seryth was channeling
Erivana's feelings.
Ah, it was a rider matter. Anaeryth promptly passed the issue to her
own, prodding her to alertness while providing the brief information
that Seryth had given.
**Seryth, it'll be okay. I'll come check on your rider and make sure
that she's alright.** Lanniya rose from her hidework and tugged her
boots on, both worried about Erivana and grateful from the reprieve
from a much disliked aspect of her own duties. **Why don't you go,
take a good soak in the lake, and I'll see if I can help.**
It didn't take her too long to get to Erivana's weyr and she scratched
on the hide door. "Erivana? Are you okay?"
"Come in?" Erivana called hesitantly. She scrambled off her bed but
was still clutching a pillow to her chest. Her eyes were very
reddened.
Lanniya stepped in, closing the hide behind her. She took in the
reddened eyes and she immediately hurried forward. "I was going to ask
if you were okay, but obviously, you're not." She looked at the
pillow, looked at Erivana's eyes again, and remembered Anaeryth's
comment about a 'hatchling'. Her eyes widened just a bit. "Seryth said
something about a hatchling..."
Erivana rubbed at her eyes. "Remember that drill I was out of place
in? Because I felt sick? And how Saibra sent me to the Healers? Well
they said I'm..." and her lip wobbled. "pregnant."
Lanniya immediately moved to hug Erivana. "It's okay. Really. It
happens. Don't cry." She leaned back. "Was it from the Seryth's
flight?"
"Yes. It couldn't have been anyone else." She waited for Lanniya to
yell at her too, for disregarding her practice advice. All day it had
felt like everyone was yelling at her.
Lanniya maneuvered Erivana back to her bed, encouraging her to sit.
"Hmm...well that happens a lot around here, really. Flights can make
babies, if you're not teas. I guess you weren't. What are you going to
do?"
Erivana sat back down and cling to the pillow like a lifeline. "I
wasn't - I didn't think to -" she admitted. "You know I was on them as a
candidate when I got here and then during weyrlinghood we were so busy
and I ran out and anyway I wasn't having cycles for a bit and."
Lanniya's arm went around Erivana's shoulder. "I know. Things can get
crazy. I forget things all the time, just ask anybody." She tilted her
head. "Are you gonna go /between/ with it or keep it?"
"I don't know." Se hiccuped a little and tilted her head so it bumped
into Lanniya's. "I should tell the father first."
She let Erivana lean into her and tried to comfort her by rubbed her
arm and hugging her. "Well, it's up to you and what you want to do in
the end, okay? And if you need help with anything, I can try to help."
She frowned. It seemed like way to many people she knew were having
babies or getting pregnant. "What do you think he'll say?"
"I've hardly ever _spoken_ to K'yne, I have no idea," she said.
"K'yne won your flight?" Lanniya considered that. She really didn't
know him well, but had heard he was intense and tended towards cranky.
"Well, maybe he really won't have an opinion. Some male riders don't.
But even if he did, it would be up to you."
She nodded. "I didn't expect him too - I mean I didn't want anyone
particular so I guess Seryth chose her favorite. He was...courteous
afterwards, not too scary."
"Good. I'd have to have words with him if he wasn't." Lanniya's voice
was firm. "He better stay courteous, too."
"I'm going to speak to him tomorrow, since Saibra told me to." She
fidgeted, decided to ask. "If Seryth lets you know, can you keep an
ear out for us, in case it's a bad conversation? Like if he makes me
cry or something?"
"Of course. You let me know right away if you need me there, okay?"
She nodded. "I will. Thanks for hearing me out about this. It's..."
Erivana stopped and heaved a sigh. "It's a lot to think about."
"Yeah, I know." Lanniya patted Erivana's shoulder. "Can I tell you a
secret?"
"Of course."
"After I moved here from Dolphins Cove, I had to make that choice."
She sighed softly. "I didn't tell K'ale or F'lin. I just knew I wasn't
ready. I'm still not, I guess. I'm too busy and I don't think that I
could handle a baby when I'm still learning. It's a hard choice to
make. But I don't regret it."
Erivana's jaw dropped. She couldn't believe it. "You did? Really?" she
murmured aloud. "Were you scared? Did it hurt? Did you know which of
them..."
Lanniya nodded. "Yeah, I did. It did hurt. It felt like really really
bad cramps and I bled a lot more than I usually do. K'ale just thought
it was a bad monthly." She tucked her hair behind her ears and shook
her head. "No, I didnt and really, I still don't. I try not to think
about it. And I've stayed on the teas so it doesn't happen again." She
looked over at her friend. "But you have to make that decision for
yourself and what's best for you and what you want."
Erivana fiddled with her hair. "Well. Thanks for telling me.
Especially if you're been keeping it secret."
She shrugged just a little. "Just give yourself time to think about
it, okay? And whatever you decide, I'll be there."
The greenrider nodded again. "The Healers told me I had at least a
month to decide. I gotta talk to K'yne... and probably my mother.
Maybe some other friends."
"Good. You have time." She gave her another, brief hug. "And you can
come to my weyr anytime you need to talk. I don't mind. "
"I will. Thanks, Lanniya."
"Anytime."
