"Off with you. " Ma'din slapped Aznith's hide, sending him to sun on the heights after his bath. He picked up his damp tunic, threw it over his shoulder and stretched. He was tired from his evening watches and combined with drills and visiting his siblings, he wasn't being all the rest he really needed.

Saibra's eyes traveled up Ma'din's figure to his face as she drew close. She'd been taking a walk, part of her daily exercise, when the brownrider had caught her eye. "How goes it?" she asked.

He looked up and a single brow raised. "Well, if it isn't our esteemed Weyrwoman." His voice was dry. "_It_ goes just fine. "

"How are you holding up? I know K'reyel has you on night watch and Chioneth says you and Aznith go to Dolphin Cove often," she inquired.

"Keeping tabs on me? I'm touched. " Ma'din's hands fell lightly to his hips. " Aye. I do. Now that I can." He eyed her pointedly. "Don't worry, Saibra, I'm behaving myself perfectly."

The Dragonsfall Weyrwoman's eyes crinkled a bit with a smile, "Of that, I have no doubt. I would have heard from D'hol otherwise, or you would be missing a chunk of your hide from Panitath's jaws."

"Oh, I doubt D'hol will be back here." There was no humor in his smile. "I'm dealing with my sib's mothers more than him at any rate. Was there something you wanted?"

Saibra hadn't realized that Ma'din was involved with D'hol's other child. She found that interesting. The brownrider didn't strike her at all as the "family type."

"No, I just happened to be passing this way. When I saw Aznith I was reminded of Chioneth's note about his departures and just thought I would see if everything was okay." Inwardly she wanted to know if D'hol had been as strange with Ma'din, other than the fist fighting, as he had been with her that day, but she doubted the brownrider would say.

The customary smirk remained. "What wouldn't be okay? I'll likely be going back and forth as often as I can, if I don't need to request a transfer." His eyes narrowed. " You're friends with him, aren't you? Or a former lover. He does like his goldriders."

The unexpected accusation made a laugh burst out of her. "Your father? I was Cyradis' second, and he was a Wingleader. We were friendly because we worked together, and that is all. I only meant that I wanted to check and make sure that you and Aznith were okay, working the late hours, attending drills, spending your free time at Dolphin Cove. I just wanted to make sure the two of you weren't pushing yourselves unnecessarily, is all. K'reyel sees to the Wings and Thread, and I make sure we're all healthy. It's a part of the job."

"I'm pushing," He admitted, but shrugged. "It's nothing I can't handle and nothing I wasn't expecting when K'reyel put his boot up my ass. But, got to right now."

That was what she had wanted to know, and as long as he was keeping a handle on it, that was all Saibra could ask. "I'll get out of your hair, then."

"Wait a moment." He frowned, obviously thinking of something else. "You friends with Cyradis?"

She had been turning to leave, but stopped to look at him over her shoulder. "Yes."

"And you know the mother of his other son, right?" He drummed his fingers on arms.

"Jeyme? I know her by acquaintance."

He debated saying anything, but went ahead, his brow knit. "I may have to transfer soon. I'll let you and K'reyel know if it comes up."

The Weyrwoman came fully around again, one ebony eyebrow arched, "Transferring? Why? What does that have to do with Jeyme?" Saibra was missing the connection.

"Gotta be a proper male figure, don't I?" He paused, the quickly corrected himself. "Big brother, that is. Can't be much of one if I'm tired all the time. "

The wheels were turning quickly in Saibra's mind. D'hol had shown up, oddly, visited the placed where he Impressed, and then fought with his oldest son. He'd returned to Dolphin Cove and then suddenly Ma'din's ban of visiting Kielya had been lifted. And now Ma'din might need to leave Dragonsfall to go and be a big brother.... Why, was something going to happen to D'hol? Saibra wondered if Cyradis knew anything.

"Well, I appreciate the heads up," she said.

Ma'din shrugged. "Sure. It isn't anything big, mind you. Just a family thing. "

"Sure," Saibra agreed, although she didn't believe him at all. "Well, have a nice evening, Ma'din."

He snorted. "At watch. That'll be nice."
