Description: One Weyrwoman checks on the other after the Dragonsfall Hatching
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 10, day 8 of Turn 9
Notes: Mentioned: N'vanik, K'deren, R'enh
It had been her plan to retreat to the creche and hold Brenha and
Saihen after the Hatching Feast, but by the time she'd gotten there,
they had both been sound asleep. She'd taken a moment to stand and
look at their beautifully round cheeks and peaceful faces, drinking in
the calm that just their proximity brought her before leaving with a
nod to the foster mother.
**Where are you?** she asked Chioneth. Saibra wasn't ready to return
to the weyr yet, mostly because she wasn't ready to see R'enh. She
didn't know what to say to him because she couldn't fathom how he
could have misunderstood her on such an important matter. Why hadn't
he been in her corner as she had thought he would be?
}:I am on the Sands.:{ Chioneth responded, her tone distant.
Saibra paused at the entrance of the Hatching Cavern. It was darker
inside now that there were no longer any eggs to be kept there. A few
dim lights still lit the farthest corners of the cavern, but in the
middle, where she'd stayed for the last several sevendays, was
Chioneth, curled as if she would be guarding an egg.
"I'm sorry, love," Saibra said as she approached her lifemate and
wrapped her arms around the gold's sleek muzzle.
}:It is nature, but it is... difficult.:{ the queen sighed, eyes
whirling. }:The dragonets have settled for the evening. Soon they will
forget.:{
"I know," Saibra said, clinging to her dragon still.
}:Panitath's would like to see you.:{ Chioneth unfurled her wing and
wrapped it about them for a moment, making their hold on one another
more intimate.
Saibra released a shuddering breath, finding tears at the corners of
her eyes again, even though she thought she had shed all she could for
the day.
"Okay," she said audibly to Chioneth, pressing her lips against her
queen's golden eyeridge just as her lifemate folded her wing back
again.
Cyradis came in and walked directly to where Saibra stood but she
spoke first to Chionth. "I am so very sorry for your loss beautiful
one." She laid a hand on her golden hide in a loving caress. "How are
you doing," she turned her concerned eyes on Saibra.
"Not good," Saibra said honestly, turning her eyes up to her friend.
There was almost no one that Saibra trusted more sound advice than
Cyradis. She'd not worked for any other Weyrwoman and had the same
amount of respect. Even though they were equals now, Saibra still felt
as though the other woman was her mentor.
She nodded slowly. "I can't possibly say anything that will help
Saibra," she acknowledged. "But I'm here if you need me."
"My emotions have been off-kilter ever since the babies were born, but
I thought it would get better." Saibra shook her head. "Still having
those emotions and then sharing the way Chioneth felt when the
dragonet died," a trembling hand covered her eyes. She hated it, she
almost never lost control of her emotions.
"Yes," Cyradis said and put her arm around the taller Weyrwoman. "That
is a lot to handle. It will take you a bit to process." She took a
breath and squeezed Saibra. There was so much to admire in the way she
was managing the Weyr. "But you'll get your arms around it I'm sure of
that."
"Thank you Cyradis, it means a lot, truly. I'm afraid I took most of
my temper out on R'enh."
"He's got broad shoulders Saibra, I'm sure he can handle it." She
smiled. "Weyrwomen aren't easy to live with. Sometimes we know we
can't react the way we want in front of other people and have to get
that junk out of our system before we do. He'll learn. K'deren is
wonderful when I snap, he absorbs it and still shows how much he loves
me."
Saibra inhaled a large sigh, and then released it with a shaky smile.
"I hope you're right. I don't think I've ever unloaded on him like I
did tonight. He may be back at Dolphin Cove in the morning," she said
with a hint of humor.
"That man loves you Saibra," Cyradis gave her an intense look. "I
think we both know how rare that is for us to find. Bronzeriders are
always tainted with the ambition to be the next Weyrleader by getting
into your furs. I'm sure K'deren isn't that way and I'm fairly certain
R'enh isn't either. Yet, if he did win your flight you know he would
make a good Weyrleader." She felt like Saibra wanted a little advice
so she added. "Just say you're sorry. Nothing else, no other words
attached. He'll get the message."
Saying sorry didn't come easily for Saibra. It was one of the things
that had made her relationship with K'fel so fiery. Their tempers had
collided often and they had already resolved it with intimacy rather
than words. But her relationship with R'enh was different than her
relationship with her first weyrmate had been. "Thank you, Cyradis. I
will, when he comes home."
Cyradis didn't doubt her bronze rider would return. There were too
many things to pull him back here but she knew Saibra would have to
find that one out herself. So she just hugged her friend one more
time. "I need to find N'vanik before he celebrates too much."
Saibra nodded. "Send him my regards. And thank you."
