Saibra

Saibra honestly did not want to dance another dance. She was tired,
emotionally and physically, from all that had taken place during the
Hatching and afterward. The argument with R'enh weighed on her
heavily, mostly because she didn't know how to fix it. She didn't
regret anything that she had said.

When someone asked to cut in during her dance with some Master Crafter
whose name she couldn't remember, she turned immediately to dance with
her new partner, almost as if on autopilot.

"K'ran," she smiled when the new face came into view, and she felt a
bit of relief steal through her, "I am glad to see you."

"Apologies it took so long, Weyrwoman," he said, bowing his head in
respect. "I found myself unexpectedly popular for dances today. But I
can stay with you as long as you need, now."

"Do you think anyone would notice if we slipped out? Fresh air sounds
divine," she admitted.

"I think we can arrange that," he said, timing the swings of the
dancing to subtly lead them towards the nearest exit. "Perhaps they'll
notice you're gone, but you could have just drifted out of sight. I
think people are getting drunk enough they're not paying as much
attention."

"A drink sounds nice," Saibra murmured before swiping one off of a
drudge's tray just as they left.

K'ran took one as well without looking to see what it was. He silently
offered Saibra his arm if she wished the physical contact. It was easy
to make their way out of the Caverns and out into the weyrbowl. K'ran
looked up, eyes instinctively looking for Rogueth, for reassurance.

The Dragonsfall Weyrwoman put her arm through K'ran's, breathing in
the quiet peace for a moment as she brought the glass of wine up to
her lips. Her breath ghosted into the night air, "Thank you, K'ran."

K'ran had had the chance to see a lot of different night skies in his
life, having lived in multiple different Weyrs. Having served there
twice, he knew the patterns of the stars over Dragonsfall well, and it
was good to look up at them again.

"My pleasure, Weyrwoman.I imagine your nerves aren't any more settled
from having to put on a polite face for everyone. If I can get you a
moment to yourself, it's the least I can do."

Saibra took a few moments, soaking in the silence and calm, and
finishing the glass of wine before glancing sideways at K'ran. "How is
Saidrene doing?" she asked. She had hoped that her daughter would come
to the Hatching, it had been a while since they'd seen each other, but
she was notably absent. **Perhaps she is keeping J'ackt company,** she
thought.

K'ran remembered Saidrene's flight, and the catch and fall drill, and
tumbling into bed with her that evening... He remembered Saidrene was
Saibra's daughter - he'd known that of course but it was different
when he _remembered_ that right as he was standing next to Saibra. It
was good he wasn't drinking his own glass, as a faint blush stole over
his cheeks.

"She performs exceptionally well in drills. We did a catch and fall to
shape up Rapids and help integrate it a little better. You should have
seen how well she did."

"I wasn't sure about her decision to leave N'vanik's Wing," Saibra
admitted, "because I knew she was a good flier. I am glad to hear
she's performing well for you in the Wing."

"Well, the excellent fliers can't all be in only the Weyrleader's and
Queen's Wings," he teased, trying to keep composure.

Saibra smiled a bit at the teasing, "I'm glad you are her Wingleader,
K'ran. I am sure she'll benefit from your experience."

"It was fortunate she accepted the transfer, we could certainly use a
rider like her. I know you must worry. I promise to take
very good care of her."

"I don't worry," she admitted. "I know she's in good hands at Dolphin Cove."

"She is," he said, trying valiantly not to think about a double
meaning. "Do you wish she was here with you?"

The Weyrwoman shook her head, "No. I love her, and I would like to see
more of her, but she is more like me than she cares to admit. She is
independent and wants her own space, I understand that very well." She
rubbed her hands along her arms to warm them up and ward off the cold.
"What about you? How are you liking Dolphin Cove? I had hoped you
would choose to come back to Dragonsfall after River Bluff."

"It must be hard to be a Weyrwoman's daughter and have expectations to
handle," he said.

"N'vanik and I have been friendly for some time, he had been very
supportive during my transition to Weyrleader there, and he reached
out to personally invite Rapids to Dolphin Cove. I was honored by the
personal invite and accepted. But, I do miss Dragonsfall," he
confessed.

"Dragonsfall misses you," she assured him. "Good Wingleaders are hard
to come by."

He was touched by hearing that. Saibra had been a good Weyrwoman to
work under. "Right now I wouldn't want to leave the Wing I've been
taking care of. But perhaps if things change, I'll be here again some
day."

"Perhaps you will," Saibra agreed, with a little sigh following. "I
suppose I should be getting back inside."

"I know it's good for the crowd to see the golden star dancing and
enjoying herself," he said, knowing how little she wanted that right
now. "Would it help if we had another dance or two? Or if Kapera took
you off for a chat?"

"Another dance sounds wonderful," Saibra said with the hint of a smile.

"Then I'll be happy to honor you with one, my lady." K'ran gave
Saibra a small bow and offered Saibra his armagain..
