It was dark, a candlemark or so after midnight, when Saibra and
Chioneth landed on their ledge. She felt marginally better after the
conversation she'd had with Cyradis. Now she felt only exhaustion
mingled with apprehension. She wasn't sure if R'enh was home yet, or
would be home, after the things she'd said. Mnoranth was missing from
the ledge.
Climbing down from Chioneth's neckridge, she took one last moment of
comfort with her lifemate, before patting the golden jasmine flank.
}:Rest. I am going to.:{ Chioneth ordered curling into the worn space
of her weyrcouch.
Saibra walked through, turning a few glows as she did, not wanting to
light the entire weyr with electricity. The soft glow was enough for
her to see the way to her bed where she gratefully stripped out of the
hatching clothes she'd been wearing and slipped beneath the furs.
"Woah," R'enh mumbled as the touched down on the ledge and he slipped
off his seat on Mnoranth. He wasn't too drunk but maybe just a little
more than he'd anticipated when he'd left the Vintner Hall Tavern.
After dropping off Loella and her husband at their home he'd decided
to take advantage of the proximity to the Vintner Hall and go relax
instead of attending the feast or discussing what had happened with
anyone else. He'd never be disloyal and felt in his current condition
he might say something to someone he shouldn't so he'd stayed away
even from N'vanik. He didn't drink as much as he had in his younger
days but he did imbibe a bit more than he'd originally planned. So he
stumbled as he came into the weyr then looked back to see what was on
the floor he could have possibly stumbled over.
A moment later he was looking up from the floor, "oops," he said and
tried to get up but just fell down again.
Saibra had heard the sound of Mnoranth landing on the ledge and felt
Chioneth stretch out her neck to greet the bronze. Even though
Mnoranth had never caught Chioneth, the two were mates in all other
ways that counted.
"R'enh?" she questioned, rolling over to peer into the room when she
heard what sounded like a 'thud'. Saibra unshuttered the glow basket
beside of her nightstand to find the bronzerider in the middle of the
floor on his back.
}:Mnoranth says that they came from the tavern at Amber Hills.:{
Chioneth relayed, amusement coloring her voice.
"Shaaibraa, I'm home," he saluted then laid back down again giggling.
"I see that," she pushed the furs back and swung her legs down to the
floor. Grabbing her silky robe, she shrugged into it and wrapped it
around her otherwise nude figure before padding over to where he lay.
"Did you at least have a good time?" she asked, kneeling by him and
combing his bangs away from his face.
He smiled blearily up at her. "You're shhow pretty," he patted the
side of her face. Then he grew serious for a moment. "The baby died,
I'm shorry," he sniffed.
"Yes, the baby died," she agreed. It had been a long time since she
had seen him so far gone into the cups. Their argument had apparently
not set well with him either, she surmised. "Would you like a cup of
klah?"
"Yup," he said and tried to sit up. He put a hand to his head and
rubbed the back of it. "I think I hit my head." He peered at her then
around the room. "Are you okay? I tried to help but guessh I didn't do
a very good jhob." he rolled over on his hands and knees and crawled
to the sofa.
"Yes, I am okay," her lips twisted in amusement as she watched him
crawl. Pushing to her feet, Saibra crossed the room and poured klah
from the warmer into a mug. "Here we go," she said as he made it to
the couch.
Finally, he got himself off the floor and smiled. He kind of slipped
sideways a little. "Maybe I should sleep here," he fell over face
first into one of the pillows.
Mnoranth rumbled from the ledge with what could have passed for
draconic laughter.
She held on to the cup of klah, not wanting him to take it and then
spill it. "Maybe you should sleep here," she agreed, setting the cup
aside in favor of tugging off his boots.
"Thank you," he said in a voice muffled by the pillows. But it came
out more like "THa uo." and then a muffled snore.
