"Teseada? I've brought Callaine." Ninaine stood at the door, arms full
of squirming child. "Just a minute. I'll put you down in a minute."
She blew a lock of hair out of her face. Callaine screwed up her round
face and bounced in her mother's arms, waving her own.

Tecall waved at the child in Ninaine's arms. He burbled something that might
be taken as 'Hello' through the toys he was shoving in his mouth.

"I'd put her down over there," Teseada said with a grin. "Let her play with
his things for once, and I've got something a little more adult for us."
There was a pitcher of klah out of range of little hands, along with some
snacks.

"Hello ladies," N'call said as he came in from the ledge where Haloth
was rubbing necks with Onnyth. "How's everyone today?"

Carrying Callaine and placing her beside her brother, Ninaine exhaled.
"She's getting heavier. Ooh...cookies. Thank you." She was in the
process of pouring a cup of klah when N'call came in. She looked up
and smiled warmly as she poured him a cup as well. "Tired. Luneth has
been a bit cranky today." She sat with relief as Callaine immediately
started crawling towards Tecall, eyeing the toy in his mouth.

"How's Luneth doing?" asked Teseada.

"There's some improvement, but not as much as I'd hoped or as much as
she wanted." Ninaine took a bite of a cookie, swallowed and eyed
N'call. "You can join us. We won't bite." She paused and glanced at
Teseada. "Well, I won't, I can't speak for Teseada."

"Just biting my food today, honest," said Teseada with a grin as she reached
for the plate of cookies. "Come and have one of these, they've got dried
redfruit in them."

He chuckled and reached for a cookie himself. "You know how much I
like these," he nodded to Teseada. He watched his two children
reaching for the same toy. "Share," he said the one word he knew
they would both understand.

Callaine's face screwed up in a familiar expression as she scowled at
her father. "Na. Na no no."

Ninaine's mouth dropped open and then she had to turn away before
Callaine saw the laughter try to bubble up. Callaine's face had looked
exactly like N'call's when he was irritated. She glanced at Teseada
and visibly struggled not to laugh.

"Who did she learn that from?" Teseada asked, trying to sound innocent.

N'call rolled his eyes at Teseada. But then he looked back at Callaine
with a firm "Yes."

"No!" Callaine then proceeded to babble directly at her father, waving
her hands wildly as if telling him something very important. Then she
pointed at Tecall and bounced on her bottom, grabbing at a toy and
clutching it. She looked again at her father's face and thrust out her
lower lip in a sniffling pout. "Pease? Pease?"

"Let's see how he does with the pout and the big eyes. " Ninaine
mock-whispered at Teseada.

"You're not helping," he said in a singsong over his shoulder then
looked back and forth between the two children. "Callaine, you ask
Tecall. It's his toy."

"Oh, I know." Ninaine watched as her daughter stared up at her father,
seeing the familiar stubbornness in her child's expression. " Is Tecall like
him too, Teseada?"

"He's got the stubbornness, or maybe in him it's going to be tenacity. I
could see him making a fine Harper if he chooses not to stand, given the
amount of noise he can make." Given that N'call also wore Harper knots it
was possible that Tecall would at least try and play an instrument at some
point.

Grudgingly and under the stern eye of her father, Callaine thrust the
toy back at her brother. Dropping into a crawl, and surprisingly fast,
she managed to make her way to her father, gripped his trousers and
pulled up. She wobbled just a little, but her grip steadied her. "Up!
Up!"

N'call smiled and pulled her up into his arms. "Up," he echoed her and
then tossed her into the air.

Tecall had spotted that, and began to make his way over, all thought of the
toy discarded. "Me too!" he demanded. "Me up."

Ninaine couldn't help but laugh, finding herself enjoying the byplay
and the company more than she ever hoped she would. She sipped her
drink, fully relaxed now. "We should spend more time together. All of
us." She glanced over at the goldrider, her gaze warm with the
beginnings of real friendship. It was a good feeling. "What do you
think?"

Girl giggles were followed by boy giggles as their da tossed them in
the air one at a time then set them back on the floor. In between
tosses he smiled at Ninaine. "I wouldn't mind." he said mildly.
