Tavia stretched as she came slowly away to the pleasant afterglow of a
beautiful flight. She smiled without opening her eyes and in her mind
saw her lifemate curled up with a handsome brown. She did have a
marked preference for browns so her rider wasn't a bit surprised at
the outcome.
"Mmmm," she mused. "That was a very nice flight."
"Wasn't it?" The brownrider had turned on his side, his head resting on
one hand as he regarded her with bright eyes. After all the turmoil of
the past few days, the pure, uncomplicated joy of winning a flight felt
wonderful. "Rhalith is exhausted, and happy. She led him quite a chase."
He grinned. "It seems you were right about her liking browns."
"Yes," Tavia smiled. "It has been her way most of her life." Tavia's
life had felt stressed for some time but this... this was more normal
and expected. She told herself to just relax and enjoy. Everything
else would work itself out and this could be just what the healer
ordered. She chuckled at her own internal joke and rolled closer to to
the brownrider.
"Long may she continue that way." He stretched and reached out as she
moved closer, trailing an inviting hand along the curve of her body.
"That is, if you don't mind waking up with a brown's rider?" He
remembered she'd mentioned a bronzerider, and tempting as it was, he'd
no wish to cause her any trouble.
"Not at all," she smiled. Maybe he'd picked up on a bit of her
melancholy but that was something she could set aside for the buzz of
the after flight glow coursing through her. She leaned forward and
kissed him by way of response.
L'keri's hand slid to her back, drawing her in to him as he returned the
kiss with the slow, lazy warmth that followed the wild abandon of a
green's flight. "I'm glad," he murmured, between breaths. "And then -
perhaps you might stay with that brown's rider, for a while...?"
"A very good idea," she said with real warmth herself. Her palm ran
over his chest and she tilted her head. Her eyes twinkled and she
leaned in for another suggestive kiss.
"Oh," he murmured as their lips parted for a moment, "I have lots of
good ideas for how to spend time together after a mating flight." And he
planned on exploring a few of them with her.
"Good," she grinned back at him. "Get to it then brownrider," she
challenged him with her eyes.
L'keri needed no more invitation, meeting her gaze with a mischievous
gleam in his eyes for a moment before he shifted to lean over her and
bent his head, trailing kisses down the side of her neck, his lips
following his hands as they gently explored her body. Down to the smooth
line of her waist and hips, his breathing quickening as he reached her
belly and glanced up, teasing, just for a moment. And then, lower...
She sighed and relaxed mentally even though her body reacted
differently and she arched against his very talented.... her mind
decided to go away at that point.
The brownrider felt a thrill as the way she responded stirred his own
desire. **Wait.** Now the flight was over, he could take his time,
discovering what pleased the lovely greenrider while he savored the
pleasure of anticipation...
~~~Fade to Black~~~
It had been wonderful, the slow, unhurried delights of lovemaking after
the heady passion of the flight. L'keri let his breathing calm, enjoying
the feeling of her body pressed against his. His mouth brushed her neck,
lightly. "Ahh...that was good."
"Yes," she agreed in a soft voice. She reached up to cup the other
side of his face where she curved against him. She felt so relaxed and
wonderful at that moment she almost didn't want it to end. She decided
just to savor the moment and let the other things go until later.
"This was a great flight," she added a moment later.
"It was. Rhalith's a lucky dragon, and I'm a very lucky man." He too was
reluctant to leave yet, and stretched lazily, then slipped an arm around
her to gently stroke her back, unconsciously imitating the way his
dragon had folded a wing around Sawauth. For a while, he rested, trying
not to think of the problems that would still await him when this time
was over.
He wasn't sure what made him speak, at last. He wasn't exactly known as
a perceptive man, but perhaps because of the flight and their closeness,
the way their emotions were attuned, he thought he sensed something.
"You're all right? I mean...in general?" He tilted his head towards the
door, as if to indicate the world outside this little room. "No troubles?"
"Not anything big, just missing... my son's father."
"Ah." He might have been a little jealous, especially after what
they'd just shared, but the pleasure of the flight and its aftermath
had left him in a warm and generous mood. "I know what you mean. Even
though our dragons can take us anywhere on Pern in a moment, it's not
the same... Maybe he'll return," he went on, trying to cheer her. "I
would, if I was him. In an instant."
"Aww," she smiled and hugged him. "Thank you for that. It means a
lot." She kissed the side of his face and then tucked her head against
his shoulder. She could take this support at face value and just live
in the moment as she had for most of her life.
