"Do you have a moment?" asked the Hallsecond, knocking on the Hallmaster's door.
"For you, Thanja, always," Almonteo smiled as he set his work aside. "Have a seat. And a pastry. The cooks spoil me."
"They'd spoil me too, if I'd let them," she said slipping into the seat.
The Hallmaster grinned. "Well, please eat one so that I can honestly tell my wife I didn't eat them all."
"In that case how can I resist," she said taking one of the fruit filled confections.
"Now," Almonteo said as he sat back with a pastry himself, "what's on your mind?"
"Weyrlings, or rather the Weyrlingmaster's assistants."
"Oh?" It wasn't quite what he had expected to be filling her thoughts.
"I had a visit from one of them, a youngish lad. He was a former harper apprentice. And he was wanting to find out about picking up classes."
"Hmmmm." Dragonmen in classes? "But wouldn't he have drills during our normal class time?"
"Not all the time," she pointed out. "My An'dr doesn't, and he's been able to pick up some classes."
"But at a Hall?"
"I don't see why not," she replied. "Even if he only picked up things that he could study himself. It might do wonders for our people here, to see that the riders have the same interests as themselves. We could be here for a while, and it might help in the adjustment."
Hallmaster nodded. "I don't disagree. And I am not opposed to making our classes available to them. I only am thinking of them sitting in actual classes. That might prove problematic as far as scheduling."
"Well we'll see what happens when he speaks to the Weyrlingmaster."
"I am not opposed to perhaps making some special classes for dragonriders to learn from our journeymen, and even some masters if they are willing. I just think it might set a bad example, and make it difficult for the teachers, if the riders can only attend the class _some_ of the time."
"Perhaps we can do that then," agreed Thanja. "If there's a chance of having people who really want to learn benefitting from our presence, we should take it."
"I agree. And perhaps it will give some of the journeymen experience teaching as well."
"Then it's a win win situation all round."
The Hallmaster smiled. "Yes, I believe it will be."
