Emyai gave her light green lifemate an excited thump as they appeared in the air above Dragonsfall. Her eyes immediately began to look for the ledge that she knew belonged to K'yne, and when she found it, she smile to see that Arinoth was no where in sight.
**Where is Arinoth?** she asked Phileath.
}:Hm,:{ the green did a bit of searching and then, }:the Watchdragon says Arinoth left the Weyr just moments ago.:{
**Oh good! Perfect, we may have a little bit of time then before he shows up! Land on his ledge.** Emyai's smile broadened as the green flew down to the brown's ledge and settled on it daintily.
}:Excuse me,:{ Phileath said politely to Seryth as she settled just long enough to allow Emyai to dismount. }:I'm going to go see if they have any tasty looking herdbeasts.:{ The green said, taking back to the air.
**Okay, I'll call you if I need you.** Emyai tossed her dark, glossy blonde braid over her shoulder as she removed her riding helmet and scarf and made her way inside.
"Hello the weyr?" she called.
}:there is another green here,:{ Seryth said. Erivana started awake from her doze. A green? On the ledge? Why would that be? she sat up and frantically pulled a reddish-orange robe on over the simple un-colored linen slip dress she wore to sleep. There was nothing to be done about her hair hanging loose around her shoulders, uncombed and a little tangled. Throwing it in a runners tail would still look messy and leave it more tangled later. She still sighed to know she looked so ill put together.
Erivana stood up and pushed open the door to her room and stepped out into the main chamber. "Hello?" She asked in return.
Emyai's smile remained intact as she took in the full effect of Erivana's appearance. **Not his usual type, I'm glad to see, and looks nothing like Saibra. Good.**
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to catch you while you were resting," the visiting greenrider said. "But I was hoping to catch you while K'yne was out." Her eyes lost focus for a moment as she conversed with Phileath. "Oh, I'm K'yne's sister, by the way. Emyai," she stuck out her hand.
Erivana definitely was feeling outclassed by the other woman. "I've been sleeping a lot, it feels like I'm always resting when I'm not on duty," she admitted, taking the hand. "I'm Erivana, nice to meet you Emyai."
"Of course you are sleeping a lot, that is the only way to survive pregnancy, my dear. Please, don't stand on ceremony, let's have a seat and get comfortable, shall we?" Emyai returned her hand shake and then led the way to the couch, clearly knowing her way around K'yne's weyr.
"Sure," Erivana said. Uh, was she supposed to be hosting? "There's juice and bread if you want either, I've been having perpetual cravings for both."
"Bread and juice, coming right up," Emyai said in a sing-song tone as she gestured for Erivana to make herself comfortable while she fetched both of the items. Bringing them back, the blonde placed the items on the table in front of the couch, and then took a seat where she could look at Erivana. "I apologize again, I know this must seem really random. I just wanted to meet the woman who has kept K'yne from visiting so often lately," she smiled.
"It makes me feel a little like I'm being called on the spot by my Wingleader for inspection, having a member of _his family_ drop by. And wing inspections are scary when you're in the Weyrwoman's wing," Erivana confessed, cracking a little smile.
It faded off when she processed the last part. "I'm sorry if me being around has caused any trouble. I know he wasn't expecting this, and I wasn't, and I've told him he can keep doing all of his normal...things..."
Emyai waved her hand and laughed. "Oh girl, don't apologize, I have been thanking Faranth for it every day. Don't get me wrong, I love my older brother, and he has kicked more than one sorry man out of my weyr when I needed it, but I'm thirty Turns old and up until he met you, he was still visiting me twice a sevenday to 'check on me.' He is more than a little protective over his family."
Thirty? That made her almost as close to Erivana as her brother...maybe closer to Erivana? The greenrider studied her, thinking about that. "Oh, well, then I'm glad to have accidentally helped?"
"He is very serious about you, you know, but then, you might have noticed that he's very serious about everything." Emyai rolled her eyes a little. "I am serious about nothing which is probably why he thinks he needs to look out for me, too." And clearly the greenrider had the gift of gab.
"I was so intimidated by him at first, still am," she admitted.
Emyai raised an eyebrow. "Really? Why?" She asked the question as though she could not fathom it.
Erivana just stared at her for a moment before finding her words. "He's a quiet, serious, kind of grim-seeming wingsecond, and he won my *first-ever flight*," she said.
The older greenrider laughed. "Grim? Oh dear, he's doing this all wrong, isn't he? He is really not that grim but he can be very serious when he is focused." Emyai tucked her feet beneath her as she got comfortable. "Your first ever flight, huh? Was that a bad thing?"
She swallowed and went a little pale, realizing she was insulting K'yne to his sister in his weyr. "No, he was very courteous and very...skilled and all," she said, trying to salvage it.
K'yne's sister did not seem at all put out by the possible insult. "So what was it? I'm not a tattler, he won't hear it from me, I promise."
"I just didn't expect a _Wingsecond_ to win. You know, someone important and all like him." Erivana hunched in a little more. "And then I got pregnant by accident and now I think he just feels responsible for me because of it. protective, like you said."
Emyai smiled with understanding, her eyes softening. "I understand why you would think that, he isn't the best with words, after all, but let me assure you, K'yne isn't protective over just anyone. His protection only extends to people he considers family or close friends."
"And because I'm carrying his baby, I'm somewhere in that now?" she wondered aloud. "At least, until we have the child..."
Emyai wanted to shake Erivana. How had she misconstrued what she said to mean _that_? "Let me reiterate, K'yne always sees to his 'obligations' and if you were just that, he would not have offered to live together, hm? He wouldn't be missing time with his family to spend all of his time here if you were just a vessel for a child."
Before she could help herself, a couple tears began to spill, and words just flew out her mouth. The fears she'd been bottling up inside of her for more than a month now just fell free.
" I'm waiting for him to realize that I'm useless for anything other than carrying a child and flying Thread, and as soon as the baby's born there's nothing that makes me special. I just feel like I don't have anything to offer him that _isn't_ carrying the child. I'm an adequate crafter, a novice at being a dragonrider, totally inexperienced in romance...I don't know if I have anything about _me_ as a person that makes me special, and..." She hiccuped, spluttered, devolved into that embarrassing, shaking, overwhelming sobbing.
On the ledge, Seryth swung her head with agitation and her claws scraped on stone likely loud enough for Emyai to here. }:Rider? Mine? You are special, you matter,:{ the green insisted, sending waves of love and affection.
Emyai, who did not have a shy bone in her body, wrapped her arms around Erivana. "Oh dear. That's quite a lot to be carrying around inside, isn't it?" She patted Erivana's back soothingly. "I don't even know you but I can assure you that you have plenty to offer anyone. Being willing to carry a child for a man you barely know speaks of courage and a big heart, doesn't it? Your craft or being a dragonrider doesn't equate to worth and I'm sure," she pulled back and grinned a little, "that K'yne would be willing to work with you on the romance."
Erivana let herself slump into the warm and comforting hold of Emyai. These were fears she hadn't been able to express to her mother, who despite turns of being a dragonrider still harbored many of the holdbred values about a woman's roles - possibly the _reason_ she had those worries - and it wasn't like she knew any other girls around her own age who had children who she could be comfortable opening up to like this. It felt so good to tell _someone_ finally.
It seemed to take awhile before the sobs dried up a little. She gave another little hiccup, then murmured, "I suppose I don't know why he'd want to work on it..."
"Dear, do you know what men find more attractive than boobs and long legs?" Emyai paused with a grin. "Confidence. If you are confident in yourself, men will notice, that is what makes people beautiful."
"Were you always so easily confident?" she asked.
"Pretty much," Emyai admitted. "But I have a bluerider father who has never been shy about anything and my mom is a very independent greenrider. It's just thef way I was raised."
"That sounds like a recipe for it."
"Erivana, in case your mother never told you, you deserve everything that you desire out of life. If my brother isn't it, cut him loose, and I don't say that lightly, but you have to do what is best for you. If he's it, then commit to it and go for it." Emyai said giving Erivana's hands a squeeze.
"I wouldn't have expected his sister to tell me to cut him loose," she admitted.
}:You like Arinoth's. Maybe you should give him a chance to fly you again, because you want it. But he has to _chase_ you properly.:{ Seryth said.
"Seryth says I should give him a chance to chase me properly. See if I want it. She's so much more confident than I am."
"You'll never know until you try," Emyai said in agreement with Seryth.
"Tell me what I should try for him," she asked, leaning in.
Emyai arched an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"To be confident. To show him I want him. To..." A helpless sort of shrug. "My mother didn't know how to give me girl talk about wooing a weyr man, and I'd just like a weyrbred lady's perspective. Please."
The other greenrider's eyes lit with excitement. "I'll tell you exactly what to do. First,...."
