"Don't put that in your mouth. 'Lex, what did I say?" Suynie turned,
one child on her hip, her hand pointing at the toddler in the floor
who was holding a paint brush dangerously close to his gaping mouth.
Xelbry waved her arms in the air, giggling at the mention of her older
brother. "Don't encourage him, Bri," she laughed before swooping down
to take the paint brush from Brylex. "Now, come on you two, your
father will be coming by for a visit at any minute."

"And he's here," Bryvin grinned from the doorway. He'd heard the
foster mother's words from the hall as he was coming to the room.
"Hello Little," he smiled at his daughter as she reached out to him
and swung her up before pulling her in close for a warm hug.

Brylex got to his feet and clapped his arms straight at his sides and
bowed from the waist. "My Lord," he said clearly.

Bryvin chuckled and looked at Suynie. "Did you teach him that," he
smiled. Then he nodded to his son "Lord Brylex," he said.

Suynie blushed a little. "We were playing Lords and Lady's earlier,
practicing our curtsies and such."

"Well that is very well dome Suynie," he said with approval. "I want
him to have good manners in company. So I appreciate you helping him
even if it was with play. How is he doing on his colors?" Bryvin
pointed at the watercolors where his son had been playing.

"He can identify the different colors but, um," a smile tugged at her
lips. "I'm afraid he's more interested in painting his hands or
trying to eat it than putting colors on the paper."

"I see," Bryvin sat down on the floor next to his son. "Let's see what
you're doing there. Shall we?" He looked at the paints and the paper
and his son's hands. "I see what you mean," he chuckled.

"Little Bri here has been taking some cautionary steps, before long,
you'll have another walker on your hands." Suynie had not expected to
do so, but in the short time she had been foster mother to Lord
Bryvin's children, she had found herself falling in love with them,
especially the youngest, perhaps because Suynie had never had a girl
child of her own.

"Will she now," Bryvin smiled up at the little girl then reached up to
offer his hands to take her "That's pretty advanced," he smiled at
the foster mother.

"I've seen them walk as soon as eight months. You just never can tell
what will make them decide to start." Suynie said.

"Oh," he blinked. "I don't know when I first walked. My sister might
though," he smiled again. "I wish I could be here to see it," then
took his daughter as she leaned over toward him. "Think you could let
me know when it happens so I can come and see?" He offered her a
brightly colored stuffed toy from the toy box nearby and made some
funny sounds as he danced it toward her.

It warmed Suynie's heart that the Lord Holder, as busy a man as he
must be, would want to be interrupted to come and see his daughter's
first steps. "Of course, m'lord. I'll send a message as soon as she
starts."

"Excellent," he smiled up at her for a moment. "And how is _your_ son
doing Suynie?"

She flushed a little at the question, touched that he would ask.
"Lucyien is doing well. He loves harper classes, which gives me hope
that he will change his mind about being a seacrafter. I mean, he's
only six, so there's still plenty of time," she chuckled.

He chuckled. "Yes it seems a glamorous life but it's a great deal of
hard work. But he has time." Bryvin looked down just in time to see
Brylex used his painted hands on his leg to stand up and snorted.
"Oops," he grinned at his son and ruffled the boys hair. "I'd best get
these trousers to my valet before the paint sets. He rose easily still
smiling. The time he spent here each day was one of his happiest.
"Thank you," he said to the young woman then he hugged and kissed his
daughter and handed her back.

"Oh, dear," Suynie said as she saw the paint on the Lord's pants. It
was a good thing she had been using water-based paints. She took
Xelbry back into her arms, bouncing the child on her hip. "Of course,
milord. I hope you have a pleasant rest of your day."

"Thank you Suynie," he smiled as he walked out.
