Lanniya

Lanniya

Lanniya shifted on her feet as she peered up into the air to watch the
little green emerge from /between/. **Nalarith! We're down here! **
Excitement at seeing her friend made her bounce a little on her toes,
but the motion put pressure on her bladder, so she promptly stopped.

}:We come.:{ Nalarith spiraled down toward the young goldrider. A'dryn
barely waited for her to land before sliding off and hurrying to his
best friend for a hug. "Lanniya!"

"A'dryn!" She grinned and shifted enough to hug him past her growing
belly. "It's been so long! Have you been busy? How's your man? Has
thread been awful? Tell me everything!"

"Thread is, well... about the same as it ever is. Which is to say,
terrible as usual. B'jon is doing well, thankfully. How are things
with you and the baby?" He glanced down at her obviously larger
stomach.

"It's good. I'm ready for the baby to be born though. I really want to
see it and hold it. Sometimes I'm really energetic and some days all I
want to do is sleep." She tucked her arm in his and tugged. "Come on.
I've got drinks and snacks for you."

A'dryn smiled. She was always such a whirlwind of chatter and
activity. He followed her inside and selected a few refreshments.
"Thank you."

"Sit down." Lanniya plopped down, legs splayed. "Oof. I'm getting
huge." She patted her belly and kept a smile on her face. "I'm ready
for this to be over with. So...what's been going on at Dolphin's Cove?
I need gossip."

"Well... have you heard about that Dragonsfall rider that got injured?
The story is that he fell off the weyrling barracks at Dolphin Cove
and was in our infirmary for a month!"

"OH...yes, L'keri." She nodded. "Yes, I heard all about that.
Leadership was hopping mad about how irresponsible he was, but from
what I understand, that's a bit normal for him. He's not seen as a big
thinker, but I've never really gotten to know him." Lanniya shook her
head, "I'm hoping he'll have learned a lesson from it." She beamed at
him. "F'lin came to see me, by the way. It was nice."

"Oh?" A'dryn said with an arched eyebrow.

That brought an immediate grin and a waggling of her eyebrows. "Oh, is
right. Once he got past the 'weirdness' of the belly, it was a very
very nice visit. You and B'jon ever have fun in the water? If you
haven't, you should try it."

A'dryn's face heated. Despite living in a weyr and having a friend as
carefree and open as Lanniya, he still couldn't be as casual about
intimate matters as many others were. "Er, well I... will take that
into consideration."

She giggled at the expression on his face, then reached over to pat
his hand. "You're so easy sometimes, A'dryn. So, have you gotten
used to Flights yet? I've only had two."

The greenrider wrinkled his nose. "I wouldn't say I've gotten used to
them, though I have gotten... more accepting that this is part of my
life as a dragonrider."

Lanniya sighed then smiled. "Well, add long as everything is going
well for you and you're happy. That's all I care about, really. If
B'jon makes you happy, then I'm happy. So, tell me... are you going
to make it official? Weyrmate?"

"Oh, I don't... I don't know." He flushed with embarrassment again.
"Things are so different at the Weyr. I'm not even sure what that
would mean." It wasn't marriage, it wasn't a promise to be together
forever. But it was _something_, and it was the closest thing to
marriage a dragonrider could get.

"Anything you want it to be. That's the great thing about it. Just
think, I'm weyrmated to K'ale and I love him to pieces. I rely on him
for so much and he can come to me for anything. But it doesn't mean
that I don't care about F'lin or that if K'ale wants to spend time with
anyone else, he can't. Sometimes he does, I'm sure. I just don't ask.
But he's always there when I need him or if he needs me, I'm there and
he's my best friend too. It just means for us, after Anaeryth, I put
him first."

"I'm very happy you've found a good arrangement." Before coming to
Weyr and becoming a rider, A'dryn would have found it shocking. He had
moments, here and there, little twinges where he questioned Lanniya's
relationships, but that was his upbringing speaking. He didn't truly
disapprove and he was honestly happy for her. She was honest with her
partners, and A'dryn was coming to realize that was a true measure of
a healthy relationship among weyrfolk. "But I'm still processing the
fact that I can _have_ a lover, that we can be with each other
openly."

"And it feels pretty good, doesn't it?" Lanniya smiled. "After all
that mess where you grew up. "Being able to be open with someone you
care about is why I love the Weyrs." She reached out a hand to take
A'dryn's. "Enjoy it, A'dryn. Wrap your arms around him right in front
of everyone. You can."

"I know." He squeezed her hand. It didn't surprise him at all that she
had two lovers, it was only surprising that she didn't have more
admirers. She was such a lovely person. A'dryn glanced down at her
growing belly. She was going to be a wonderful mother too. "I'm so
glad your child will be able to grow up here."

"You'll be the baby's uncle." She declared with a smile. "I'll bring
him or her to visit you and Pierka as often as I can. Or you can come
here, which ever you'd like. Uncles and aunts get to spoil the baby
and send them home, you know." She winked. "I do it with Pierka's, so
I guess it's time for payback for that too."

"Oh, I will," A'dryn said with a smile. He couldn't see his nieces or
nephews or little cousins anymore, so Lanniya's child would be getting
all that affection. "Lots of attention and lots of presents."

"Can't complain about that!" She smiled brightly. "And you'll
definitely have to visit more often."

"Of course. I want to do that anyway." Having dragons meant they could
cross the distance in a few moments, but it still wasn't the same as
living in the same Weyr. They had a time difference to consider, too.

"Good." Lanniya nodded. "Let's have lunch before you have to head
back. We can just spend time together like we used to."

A'dryn smiled at his friend. "I would love that."
