Description: The two parents take their twins to the beach for their 1st birthingday
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 5, day 6 of Turn 10
A whole Turn. She couldn't believe it. She so vividly remembered the
day she had gone into labor with the twins, how difficult it had been,
how scared she was that something would go wrong with the delivery.
"And now here we are," she cooed to Brenha, tying a bonnet onto the
baby girl's head to keep it protected from the sun while they sat in
the soft, damp sand near the ocean. "And here's yours, young man," she
said, looking at Saihen in his father's arms, already bearing a
striking resemblance to his sire. She tied his little hat on as well.
"You honestly believe he's going to keep that on more than a moment
after we land?" R'enh grinned at her.
"At least I will have done my motherly duty." Saibra said, returning
R'enh's grin as she retreated to Chioneth, who was waiting somewhat
impatiently, ready for the warm sand of a beach herself. Brenha was
strapped to Saibra's font in a crisscrossed swaddle of cloth, to which
the Weyrwoman then pulled her overlarge riding jacket around to keep
her passenger snug and warm on the trip.
He just smiled and shook his head. Then looking at Saihen he waggled
his eyebrows eliciting a baby giggle before he too wrapped the child
in his poncho and climbed into his seat. "Here we goooooooo," he
said in a sing-song voice and sent Mnoranth up to wait for his
Weyrmate and her beautiful gold.
--
The beach was warm, but the breeze coming off the waves made the
temperature pleasant. Brenha was seated between Saibra's legs,
grabbing up sand in both hands and tossing it into the wind.
"Watch your aim there, sister," Saibra sputtered, getting a mouthful
of the sand.
R'enh laughed as he followed their son's determined toddle to get back
to his mother. All the while steering him slightly off course with
distractions of shiny stones and shells along with the occasional
plant stem. Of course the latter were promptly crushed and the tot
tried to stuff them into his mouth. "hey hey," R'enh said as he pulled
the fist away from the boy's mouth. He shook his head at Saibra with a
grin.
"Apparently we should have brought an extra pair of hands with us,"
Saibra laughed.
"Ah but then we couldn't have our rare family time," he smiled at her
and scooped Saihen up and brought him back to the place where Saibra
and Brenha sat. He folded his legs and sat down next to her leaning in
for a kiss. "We don't get enough of this," he murmured.
Saibra leaned into her weyrmate, enjoying the brief touch of his lips.
"It's true, we don't." Being a Weyrwoman and a Wingleader certainly
limited not only the time they had to spend with one another, but with
their children as well.
"What if," he smiled. "We schedule a weekly meeting for say two
candlemarks. Then we can have some time together without outside
interference."
"Momma," Saihen chose that moment to launch himself from his da's lap
and throw his arms around Saibra's neck.
Saibra laughed at the surprise attack, wrapping her arms around her
son and giving him a squeeze. "You stinker!"
She looked up and gave R'enh her bedroom eyes over their children's
heads. "I think a standing weekly meeting sounds perfect."
"Good," he said with a wink and plucked Brenha from her seat and rose
with her on his shoulders. "Let's go get your feet wet baby girl," he
said as she squealed and clutched at his hair.
