When the morning came, Lorican was turned out of Lusilk's room by the
healers who wanted to examine her injuries. He knew he wasn't expected
at the smithy that day, and realizing that they'd both missed dinner the
night before, he took Silgan to the dining hall for breakfast. On the
way out, he picked up some fruit for Lusilk, remembering that she'd been
thirsty when she woke and might appreciate it.

As he entered the infirmary, he saw the Headwoman talking to the Master
Healer outside the door and held back. "Headwoman. Master Garion."

Garion gave the smith an acknowledging nod and half a smile.

Jayzine turned to him also. "I understand from Master Garion that you
and Master Dunrick were the ones who brought Lusilk to the clinic?"

"Yes, that's right. Lusilk and I were out walking yesterday evening with
Silgan when...we were attacked by two men." He glanced down at the
child, cautious about saying too much and frightening him.

"We're very lucky you got her here as quickly as you did," Garion put
in. "Very much longer and we might have..." he looked down at the
small boy. "Hello," he said squatting down with a pleasant smile. "Are
you her son?"

Silgan tightened his hold on Lorican's hand, tucked himself half-way
behind the smith and thrust his fingers into his mouth before looking
up at him for reassurance. Half-hiding, Silgan looked at the stranger.
He didn't like strangers at all now; one had hurt him and made him
drink something yucky. But Lorican seemed calm, so he nodded slowly. He
then looked over at Jayzine who was far more familiar and pointed to
the infirmary, towards where his mother was resting.

Jayzine was familiar with Silgan and she nodded. "Your mama is still
asleep dear. Master Garion fixed her all up. He says she's going to be
fine. Do you want to see her first or get something to eat?"

"Silgan and I have just had breakfast, ma'am," Lorican said, giving the
boy's hand a reassuring squeeze. "If it won't disturb her, we'd like to
see her. We brought her some fruit."

"That's good," Jayzine nodded and though she rarely smiled at other
adults she did smile at children. "Shall we," she asked the master
healer.

Garion stood and also smiled down at the boy. "This way," he said and
led the way back into the infirmary. Lusilk had been moved from the
emergency area into one of the rooms on the second floor. So he led
them directly there and upon entering the room quietly cleared it of
healers to make room for her visitors. "We'll have to be quiet," he
said softly. "We don't want to wake her up.

As the room cleared, the slight sounds woke Lusilk almost immediately.
She opened her eyes and lifted her head, murmuring softly. "I'm
awake." Carefully, she pulled herself up into a partial recline,
grimacing at the twinges in her side, only half-muted by the fellis
she'd been made to take. Silgan pulled immediately away from Lorican
and darted to her bed, climbing up before anyone could stop him.
Lusilk gave a weary smile as he cuddled next to her, burying his face
into her chest. She made a soft soothing noise and rubbed his back,
then looked at the three who had entered the room. "Hello."

Her eyes stopped at Garion, widened a little bit, but barely enough to
notice. She recognized the man easily, but had he recognized her?
Faranth, she didn't want to have to kill someone else, especially if
it wasn't necessary.

Garion didn't move for a moment as their eyes met then his eye away
from her other visitors twitched in the hint of a wink. "Good
morning," he said formally. "I'm Master Garion. I wish we could have
met under better circumstances," he smiled.

Jayzine nodded. "We're lucky Master Garion was here. He just came to
us from Sunstone on the recommendation of Lord Bryvin himself to help
us set up the Hospital."

"We're very grateful, Master," Lorican said. "When I came back with
Master Dunrik and we saw Lusilk lying there I was afraid...well. Thank
you." He was also relieved that the healer hadn't mentioned Lusilk's
scars, though he must have seen them. Hopefully he'd keep that between
himself and his patient.

Lusilk's expression didn't reveal any thoughts about the mention of
Lord Bryvin, offering what appeared to be a grateful smile. " Yes, we
are. I'm very thankful he's here. I would hate to think of what would
have happened if I hadn't gotten aid when I needed it. It's a
pleasure, Master Garion." Her hand continued to stroke through her
son's hair. She shifted for a moment, her lips twitching at the
movement as she turned to Jayzine. "I suppose there's questions being
asked."

"Yes," Jayzine nodded. "There are, but they can wait. Are you alright?"

"As well as I can be. It hurts, but I think I'll be alright. I'm just
glad Lorican and Silgan are okay and the bandits didn't hurt anyone
else that I'm aware of. I guess that we should expect that all of the
new construction might attract people that might take advantage of
it." **Like myself.**

"We'll definitely be more careful about wandering away from the Weyrhold
in future," Lorican said. He set down the fruit on the table beside her
bed and, remembering that they were supposed to be weyrmates, reached
out to lightly touch her shoulder. At least Silgan's presence, and her
injuries, had held off questions for now, but they'd have to get their
story straight, not least to explain how the men had come to die.

"Well, don't you worry," Jayzine nodded at the both of them. "We've
got some guards coming from both Garnet Valley and Sunstone. They've
promised to establish a barracks and provide the Weyr with some
security like the Holds themselves. Since we're so spread out unlike
the conventional Weyrs."

Guards. Well, that would be rather inconvenient, unwelcome and rather
troublesome. With Lorican about, she'd not be able to use any
seduction to keep them out of her way if necessary. Perhaps bribes, but
she wouldn't be able to operate like she normally would. Jayzine's
actions made sense from her point of view, shaffit, so she'd have to
adapt. So, Lusilk offered what would have appeared to be a relieved
smile. "Good. I'm glad to have some extra security, especially now.
When will they arrive?"

"A few of them from Garnet Valley will likely be here in the next
seven day and we'll send riders to pick up the ones promised from
Sunstone. Master Bilpen has already begun construction of a guard
barracks and in the meantime they'll be housed in the exterior weyr
buildings since most of the riders now are housed inside the Weyr
proper." She smiled and patted Lusilk's shoulder. "Lord Bryvin has
also promised us a senior guard to make sure they're organized as they
ought to be. Isn't that nice of him?"

Lorican glanced at Lusilk. Guards arriving, and a senior one? Yes,
they'd definitely better get their stories straight.
