Wirnan

Wirnan
Suynie

Suynie

Once the children had been left with one of the assistants, Suynie was free to enjoy some of the marriage celebrations at Bryvin and Asaile's wedding. The event was gorgeous and it still amazed her at how quickly something so elaborate had been put together. The Headwoman was truly an unstoppable force once she put her mind to something, Suynie decided.

She was also a little excited at the prospect of getting to spend some time with other adults. Most of Suynie's days were consumed with caring for Lord Bryvin's children - Xelbry and Brylex. The opportunity to wear a beautiful dress and perhaps dance a little was too good to pass up, even though it was the first evening she'd had free in months.

She spotted the man she was looking for across the room packed with other people dancing, and wove her way through until she reached his side.

"Beautiful wedding, wasn't it?" she said to Wirnan.

"Suynie." A smile spread across Wirnan's face as he saw her. He had not considered it before, but he was full glad to see her. He always was. "You look lovely," he said, distracted from the wedding itself. "Absolutely lovely."

"You must do me the honor of dancing with me," he added. It was an impulsive desire. And he should have been asking Yriadha. But suddenly, this – Suynie seemed far more important. His true friend. Not just a coworker. And in that dress, she took his breath away.

A smile lit Suynie's face. "I would love to," she said, sliding her hand into his. They had been having cups of tea together here and there over the last few months. She always found Wirnan to be warm and sincere, not like some of the other men around the Hold that she had met.

Wirnan sighed with relief. It was as though...

When he was with Suynie, he could be real. The real Wirnan. No need to pretend to be strong or clever or... It was a relief he could not describe. One he was not even fully aware of.

Wirnan pulled Suynie close and then began to lead her to the beat of the Harpers' tune. He knew this tune! But he supposed he should not be surprised that he knew the songs Bryvin would ask for at his wedding.

"What did you think of it all? I like to think I did my part to bring it all together, but it's really all Yriadha."

"Oh, it was beautiful," Suynie said as she looked up at Wirnan, one of her hands squeeze his arm warmly. "I can't imagine all of the hard work you and the Headwoman must have put into this event. Bryvin is lucky to have you."

"I think I'm lucky to have Bryvin," Wirnan chuckled. "There's probably a hundred men or more who could do what I do. But only one Bryvin." Wirnan would likely move the moons for Bryvin if he asked. Or do his damnedest to try, least.

"How are the kids?" he asked.

Suynie wondered what it was that made Wirnan like Bryvin so much. She'd been around the Lord Holder her fair share when he visited his children, and while he was an attentive, caring father when he was around them, there was still something in his manner that intimidated Suynie.

"They're great. Did you hear Brylex during the ceremony? He's getting to that age where he's so hard to keep quiet or still for any length of time." Suynie said, smiling in remembrance at how the little boy had blurted out during the wedding.

"Oh, I was far too enchanted with the happy couple to notice any little noises here and there," Wirnan chuckled. Of course, he had heard. But even then, he had merely smiled.

"And Lucyien?" he asked, not willing to let 'the kids' mean only Suynie's fosterings.

Suynie blushed a little with pleasure that the Steward had remembered to ask about her own son. "Lucyien is good, he's getting so tall, so fast. The harper says he's doing really well in his lessons." There was a hint of motherly pride in her voice.

"Kids, they grow like weeds, don't they?" Wirnan smiled. "You must be very proud. And with good reason. Is he here at the reception?" he wondered.

"No, he would probably be bored," Suynie confessed. It also made her nervous, to have Lucyien around, what if he did something and got in trouble? Her job as the fostermother of Bryvin's children could not be jeopardized, it was the only thing feeding and clothing her son at this point. "He's off with the other holdbrats, I'm sure."

"Of course, of course..." Wirnan nodded as he danced, gradually holding Suynie more and more closely. "Well, I'll make sure we save a bit of cake for him," he said, wanting to make sure he got something special for the occasion.

Suynie barely noticed how close she and Wirnan had become while they danced, but what she did notice was how pleasant, and safe, she felt within the circle of his arms. She hadn't felt that way..... **Since my husband,** she thought. It was so nice that Suynie found herself sorely disappointed when the music swelled to an end. "Thank you for the dance," she said, looking up into his eyes.

Wirnan was oblivious to all of it. He was most definitely enjoying himself, and he shared that smile with Suynie, the closeness, the gazing into her eyes. But he never realized just what it all meant to him. The idea that he could have something real... it was far beyond him.

"No, thank you." His smile broadened. "Have you had a chance to eat?"

At the mention of food, Suynie's stomach growled and she blushed a little as she put a hand to her abdomen. "I haven't."

"Let's fix you a plate, then, shall we?" Wirnan offered his arm to Suynie to walk with her. His stomach answered hers with a growl of its own, and he laughed. "It seems our stomachs are in agreement."

**Yes,** Suynie thought, stealing another sideways glance at Wirnan, **and I hope our hearts are, too.**
