She'd informed her instructors of her decision shortly after Thayde's
mother left, leaving the dinner Aydrisia had made for them warming in
their oven. Most of them were understanding and wished her luck,
though a few had evidenced disappointment and concern. But the
decision had been made and now that it had been, Enamra only faced
telling Thayde when he came home.
Changing out of her apprentice uniform, Enamra took care with her
appearance, resolving to at least try to make this easier on both of
them. Dressed in a thin robe that Thayde had given her, and was
apparently his favorite for her to wear, she waited for him to come
home, heart beating in her throat.
Thayde was unsure of what he would find when he got home, since his
mother's visit with his wife could have either gone well or horribly
wrong. There was really no predicting when it came to his mom. Opening
the door and finding Enamra in her robe was a surprise, but brought a
flicker of hope that things had gone well.
"Hey," he said, setting his things down on the table by the door. "No
classwork tonight?" he asked as he crossed over to where she was.
She greeted him with a smile, but there was hesitation there as he
came to her. "But we do need to talk, Thayde." She took his hand and
led him to the couch, sitting down and tugging him down with her.
"Your mother came to visit me today and we talked."
He didn't like the sounds of that, but he found himself sitting as she
pulled him down. "And how did your conversation go?" he asked.
She held onto his hand and took a deep breath. "It went well. Your
mother made us dinner and it's in the oven." She looked up to meet his
gaze. "She agrees with you, about me going to the Weyr and seeing if I
like it. And I can admit that if I weren't married to you, then I'd
have gone. So...I think you're both right and I should try."
Although the expression on Thayde's face remained the same, inwardly
he was writhing. **She did WHAT?!** He recalled his conversation with
his mother, how he had admitted to her that he was afraid that Enamra
would go to the Weyr, and then she had _advised_ Enamra to go to the
Weyr. What game was she trying to play?
"What about you apprenticing?" he asked.
She took a deep breath. "I already spoke to my instructors and I'll be
welcomed back if I don't Impress at this next Hatching. I don't want
to lose you, even if I do Impress. I don't want that at all. I love
you. But she was right that so many things have happened that I didn't
have a say in and I've just gone along with it as best as I could. I
think, " she took another breath, "I think you're both right about the
opportunity and that I should take advantage of it if I can. Even if
I'm afraid. If I don't, I might regret it later."
That was what Thayde had said, he had wanted her to take the
opportunity and find out what she really wanted... But that had been
before their argument, when they were on better ground with one
another. Now that things were more uncertain the thought of her going
to the Weyr was much more distressing. What if she found that she fit
perfectly at the Weyr? What if she did Impress? She would never be
able to live with him at the Hall again. **I could go live with
her....** he thought, although even as he tried to imagine leaving the
dolphincraft, he knew he couldn't. His dolphin partner, Ada, would
never understand.
"Well, it seems like you have it all worked out then," he said.
His voice sounded strained and Enamra knew deep down that he was upset
at her decision. She faltered, almost deciding to immediately take it
back, to stay with him to avoid that upset. But instead, she lifted
both hands to his cheeks to make him look at her, then slowly crawled
up in his lap to straddle him. "No, it's not worked out. I need to
know that you love me and that you'll be okay with this. " She lowered
her lips to his, brushing over them lightly once, then again. She'd
never initiated, not so blatantly, but perhaps it was necessary now.
**How can she not know?** Thayde thought as he succumbed to her
kisses, his hands automatically guiding her legs around him. "I do
love you Enamra. If this is what you want, we will make it work," he
promised.
Nothing had felt right since their fight and she didn't want to leave
with so much obvious strain between them. Feeling bolder, Enamra took
one of his hands and slid it up under robe and her thigh to her hip,
revealing that she'd worn nothing beneath it. She'd wanted nothing to
distract him this evening. "We don't have to eat dinner right away,
Thayde." She bent to lightly press soft kisses along his neck, then
stopped to lightly nibble, taking a change in doing to him what she
enjoyed herself.
--Fade to black--
Enamra felt the comfort of Thayde's weight on her. She turned her
head, kissing his hair and wrapped her arms around his shoulders to
stroke the muscle she found there. A pleased, fulfilled smile turned
her lips up. "That's better..."
When he could trust his legs, Thayde moved them both to their bed, his
arms immediately going around her again once they were beneath the
blanket. "I am going to miss you."
Naked and still awake, despite being replete with satisfaction,
Enamra looked up at him. "I'll be close." She wanted to ask him to
promise not to go to Jalodwyn, bit she couldn't. "And I might not
like it, Thayde. "
"Or you might." Thayde said, stroking his fingers through her long
hair, savoring it for what felt like the last time. "I'll think about
you all the time."
"You better." She rubbed her cheek against his shoulder. "We have all
night to make sure you think of me as much as possible." She stroked
her fingers lightly over his back. "I'm only staying until the
Hatching though. If I don't Impress, I'm coming back. I'm your wife
and you're my husband. "
Thayde pressed a kiss to the top of her head. Even though she was in
his arms, he was missing her already.
