Description: Yriadha is asked to dance by a handsome Captain
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 5, day 24 of Turn 10
"Certainly." Yriadha replied to the minor holder, a polite smile
lifting her lips. "I'll bring it to his attention, Mistan. I'll speak
to Wirnan about it in the morning after breakfast. Is your wife well?"
"Oh yes, very. With two grandchildren on the way. One due next month
and the other in spring. We're very proud." Mistan puffed up in
evident pleasure.
"They are a delight, of course." Yriadha nodded.
"That they are," Trayger smiled as he arrived at Mistan's side and
clasped forearms with his cousin. He gave the lovely woman a
respectful bow of his head. "Please pardon my intrusion ma'am," his
blue eyes twinkled at her. "I just haven't seen Mistan here since
Turnover."
Yriadha inclined her head. "Of course, Captain. Shall I leave you to
talk?" Her brows rose and her polite smile never waivered. "I'd hate
to interrupt a family reunion."
"No, please don't leave," Trayger smiled. "The Sun's Glory is going to
be in port for a few days and I'll have ample time to catch up with
Mistan and his family. In the meantime, I am Trayger, and I would
very much like this dance if you would do me the honor?"
Yriadha considered the offer, then looked at Mistan. "If you would not
mind my absence for a few moments?" She'd already danced with Wirnan
and finding herself enjoying that, was more than willing to take a
turn with a handsome Captain. She offered her hand. "Of course,
Captain. I would be delighted. I am Yriadha, Headwoman for Sunstone
Sea Hold."
"Well met Yriadha," He said as he took her hand and placed it on his
arm to lead her to the dance floor. He turned to face her and smiled.
"The wedding was lovely," he said simply as he opened his arms for her
to step into them.
Yriadha was nothing if not graceful as she stepped into his arms,
laying one hand lightly on his arm to allow him to lead in the steps.
"It was indeed. Lord Bryvin and Lady Asaile make a lovely couple and
it's clear they feel strongly for each other." It was a polite
response and most likely an expected one. "I look forward to their
happiness."
"As we all do," he gave the formulaic response before swinging them
into the whirl of dancers. If there was one thing Captain Trayger
possessed it was a keen sense of space around him and he guided them
unerringly around the floor. She was a very responsive and easily
guided armful so at one point he spun her out and pulled her back with
a wide smile.
The quick steps of the dance were easy to follow, so she had expected
a rather routine dance with little embellishment. When she was spun,
however, she couldn't restrain the delighted smile as she was brought
back to him. What was it about dancing that brought such a joy?
Perhaps it was for a short time, she could put aside her facade and
simply enjoy herself with an enjoyable partner. "Very elegant!" Her
smile was an honest, pleased one as she turned with him. "I'm
impressed, Captain."
"Please call me Trayger," he said and began to drive them straight
across the floor with a series of hopping steps.
She inclined her head even as they moved through the other dancers, a
light laugh emerging. "Very well... Trayger. You must come to our
events more often. A good dance partner is hard to find."
"Up to our old games Trayger?" Bryvin's hand came down on the
Captain's shoulder as they reached the edge of the floor. He lifted a
brow at Yriadha noting the flush on her cheek and laughter in her
eyes. "This man is not to be trusted," he added lightly with a grin
and slapped the man on the back. with maybe a bit more force than
necessary.
Trayger spun to clasp hands with the Lord. "Looks like you've made a
lovely match Bryvin," he grinned.
"Yeah and you stay away from her, you old lecher." Bryvin's smile
widened even more.
"You know me," he winked back. "I don't play with children."
Bryvin almost snorted. "Only too well," he shook his head. Turning to
Yriadha he added. "Trayger and I sailed together for several Turns on
old Captain Fillion's Lord of the Seas."
Yriadha watched the banter between the two men with interest, stepping
away from the Captain's embrace as Bryvin began to speak. One brow
arched, studying both men, as Bryvin turned back to her. "I see. You
seem to know each other quite well. I'm pleased that the Captain was
able to attend the wedding. One can never have too many friends at
such an occasion."
"Well not too friendly," Bryvin smiled. "Did you get what I asked
for?" His question has a slightly different tone.
"We did," Trayger answered.
"Then I'll see you tomorrow afternoon." Bryvin clapped his shoulder
again. "Enjoy the dance," he looked back and forth between them and
then walked away.
Trayger chuckled and looked at Yriadha a bit more closely before
holding out his hand. "Shall we?"
A fine brow arched as she took his hand once again. "The dance is
almost over, but I could be persuaded to find the energy for a few
more turns around the room. "
"A stroll it is then," he smiled and tucked her hand into his elbow.
"I've known Bryvin a long time," he said conversationally. "We were
both press-ganged in the same port."
"Really?" Walking easily beside him, his words sparked a real
interest. "I've heard only rumors about his time before he became the
Steward here." They had never really discussed their pasts in any sort
of detail.
Trayger smiled. "Well, let's just say it's an interesting tale. I'm
not certain I should relay all of it. But I'll say this. He saved my
life." He nodded and patted her hand. "I think he is a little
protective of you though." His eyes slid sideways. "Unless I miss my
guess."
She was nothing if not discrete and the polite smile she offered
revealed nothing. "Any Lord Holder of any value and intelligence
values staff that is loyal and works diligently on their behalf. I
would say he would be protective of any member of his staff that
endeavors to make his life easier."
Trayger chuckled. "Fine," he said with a smile. "I would expect no
less of you. But he'd never have asked me that question in front of
someone he didn't trust implicitly my dear." Knowing Bryvin the way he
did and for the length of time he had brought knowledge of the man in
a way others could not understand. Except perhaps the woman on his
arm. "May I fetch you a glass of something refreshing?"
Turning her head to look at him, her lips curled up slightly in an
acknowledging smile, then inclined her head in agreement. "Indeed, he
would not." There wasn't much of Bryvin's business that she wasn't
privy to in some way, though she was certain that she didn't know all.
He didn't trust _anyone_ that much. "As much as I would like another
glass, unfortunately, I do have duties tonight that the other guests
do not. Perhaps another time when you next visit, I can share a glass
or two with you." She found herself liking the man; he was
intriguing.
"I shall remember that," he bowed over her hand. "Ma'am," he added.
