Saibra's hands trailed tenderly over the tiny baby clothing that she
pulled out of the bottom of a trunk that she'd been hauling with her,
from Weyr to Weyr, for the past twenty turns. The little gowns were
embroidered with pink sunrises and firelizards flitted along the
hemline. Saidrene's baby clothes. **And now she has a baby of her own
to give them to.**

It had surprised the Weyrwoman, the day her grandchild was born, the
kind of love she had felt. Saibra hadn't thought it possible to feel a
connection like that with anyone other than her own children, but the
moment she had become a grandmother.... Tears blurred her vision for a
moment as she packed the clothing away into a pack to take to Saidrene
at Barrier Lake later.

"Ugh, look at me, standing here all maudlin over baby clothes." Saibra
grumped aloud to herself as she shook her head and wiped her cheeks
with the palms of her hands.

Her emotions had been swinging with wide margins for the past
sevenday, a side effect of Chioneth's golden hide, which glowed a
little brighter each day. She thought back to the day she had spent
with K'reyel on the beach during Ashela's flight....
relationship-building, she liked to call it. She and K'reyel worked
well together, they were stable and balanced for the Weyr, and she was
determined that he should be Weyrleader again.

**Besides, R'enh's busy with Aglayath's clutch.** She tried to let
the spike of jealousy that came along with that pass by quickly. She
didn't like jealousy, jealousy led to relationship problems, and the
last thing she wanted was problems with R'enh. He was the one truly
good thing that had happened to her in her life and she was determined
not to let her own insecurities ruin that as she had ruined
relationships in the past.

"Chioneth, would you - " she stopped short when she stepped into her
dragon's weyrcouch to find the gold missing. Saibra's eyes flicked up
to the weyrledge opening and she raced to the end of it to peer down
and see the gold swooping into the feeding pens.

A hot, tingling rush lapped over her. Chioneth was rising. Her eyes
darted around the Weyr but could not immediately see Erdenth's
familiar form. Where was K'reyel?

Mnoranth's spike of interest in Chioneth was quashed by Aglayath's
demand for attention though R'enh felt it and concern filled him
K'reyel was away from the Weyr! **Where is Erdenth?**

}:Away,:{ Mnoranth seemed unconcerned.

**Call him back! Tell him Chioneth rises!** R'enh demanded of the
distracted bronze. He got almost a huff of irritation and R'enh rolled
his eyes. But finally was rewarded.

}:He comes:{ Mnoranth spouted tersely.

It was rare the the Weyrleader got to do something related to his craft
these days, but when the opportunity had arisen, K'reyel had seized it. It
was a quick jaunt to the tanners based at nearby Opal Cove to confirm the
quality of leather being supplied to the Weyr. It really didn't need to be
him that went, but the chance had been too good to pass up. Fortunately,
the discussions were concluded, and K'reyel was making his farewells as
Mnoranth's message reached him. He had time to say his farewells, just,
before leaping onto Erdenth's back and directing him to immediately return
to the Weyr.

Erdenth needed no encouragement, Mnoranth's message had been enough to make
him understand the need and reason to return to the Weyr as soon as
possible. He popped out of /between/ above the feeding pens, grounding
barely long enough for K'reyel to dismount and remove his riding straps.
K'reyel hastily handed the straps to a passing drudge with instructions to
take them to his office as he could see riders beginning to gather.

Chioneth tore through a few herdbeasts, draining them quickly, her eyes
lashing back and forth as she surveyed the crop of suitors that waited on
the cliff ledges. Her favored mate, Erdenth, was there, good, but he would
have to work to keep his place as her favorite!

Dropping the last herdbeast on the ground, Chioneth sprang up into the air,
her powerful back haunches shooting her skyward.

Swaying on the ground, Saibra bathed in the attention of the male suitors in
the flighroom, but she stayed nearby K'reyel.

Erdenth rose into the sky, eyes on his golden prize. The beating of his
wings was rapid, as he tried to match the pace and the aerobatics of
Chioneth. }:You will be mine,:{ he called to her, his words echoed on the
ground by his rider

}:Are you sure about that?:{ Chioneth called back teasingly, flying daringly
close to another bronze.

Moving to block the interloper from his prize, Erdenth was
determined. }:None of these dragons will satisfy you like I can. I will
give you a good strong clutch, and you know it.:{

She did know it. Chioneth frolicked and led a merry chase, darting between
this bronze and that, and even letting a bold brown think he had a chance,
before she swerved back to her favorite mate. }:Catch me, Erdenth,:{ she
invited sensually as they reached peak altitude.

}:With pleasure,:{ the bronze replied as he manoeuvred in the sky to take
advantage of the offer.

On the ground K'reyel reached out to pull Saibra close, his actions
mimicking those of Erdenth as the other riders, and hopeful women around them faded out of conscious thought.
