K'reyel

K'reyel

It was early in the morning, after L'val had eaten breakfast and bathed,
when he heard Erdenth reach out to Kyverth. Good timing, as it was a
candlemark before his scheduled sweeps, and he had been planning on
going
down to the storerooms to go hunting for a bit of decorations for his
weyr.
Instead, he could say to Erdenth, **I'm on my way,** and head over to
the
Weyrleader's office.

He knocked on the door and entered when called in.

"Ah, L'val, please take a seat." K'reyel gestured to an empty chair.
"Glad
you could come up here."

"It wasn't a problem at all, sir." L'val admitted to an intense
curiosity
about what the Weyrleader could need. He wasn't aware of any performance
problems he had, and if he did wouldn't his Wingleader have brought them
up
to him? Maybe there was going to be a transfer in the works?

"Good,"K'reyel said. "How are you feeling about Dragonsfall, now you've
had
time to settle in?" There was no point in promoting someone who wasn't
invested in the place.

"I like it a lot. It's very beautiful, actually. I know among the
Southern
weyrs, the beach ones get the better reputations because of tropical
weather
and the like, but the plains outside when full of flowers in the spring
and
summer was beautiful. The people have an interesting nature as well, a
sense
of grit and determination to get through things I admire. I'm not
looking to
leave. Yvase _loves_ it here," he added.

That was more or less what he had wanted to hear, and K'reyel could feel
that he was nodding along with L'val's words. "So if I offered you
these,"
he reached into his desk draw, pulling out a set of knots. "Would you
accept
them" The knots K'reyel placed on the desk between them had the addition
that showed that the wearer was a wingleader as well as a bronzerider.

L'val's eyes widened. "Yessir. I would be honored."

Outside, on the weyrledge, Kyverth looked for Erdenth and started
humming in
pleasure.

"Cyan will be lucky to have you, I spoke to R'enh and he's happy for you
to
step up and take them in hand." K'reyel pushed the knots closer.
"There's a
nice new weyr in it for you and Kyverth too."

"The perks of rank, or easier for wingriders to drop in, or both?" he
asked
with a laugh.

" A little of both, but I'm sure your daughter will appreciate it for
when
she stays over." K'reyel was assuming that like most weyr children she
spent
time with a foster parent as well as at Harper classes and doing chores
like
others of her age.

"She loves sleeping on the couch to stay over," he agreed. "What about
with
your family?"

K'reyel laughed. "This weyr has a small room that could be hers. So I'm
guessing she'd appreciate that." His situation was slightly different,
with
Mai not being a rider, it meant that Mayel could live with them most of
the
time. "Mayel is with us most of the time, Mai prefers it that way."

"I am never going to get here to leave, but that's okay. I'm sure after
a
month she will, especially as it gets closer to her
birthingday...she's excited about crafting but hasn't decided," he said.
"That sounds like a comfortable arrangement."

"And you being Wingleader could be a comfortable arrangement too,"
suggester
K'reyel.

L'val reached out to run his fingers over the knots. "I would be
thrilled to
take over Cyan wing, and I'm honored you have such confidence in me."

"Congratulations, Wingleader."

**Wingleader.** What a pleasing title to hear. He felt honored to have
achieved it here at this Weyr.

"Thank you again, Weyrleader," L'val said to K'reyel. "Please let me
know
when the standard meeting schedules are and I'll be there to represent
Cyan."

"I'll have that information sent to you." K'reyel rose to offer his
hand.

L'val gave it a shake. "I'll speak with you soon."
