"Father!" Islyn pranced over to Lysid with a beaming grin on her lips. "I heard that you're going to Silver Peak? On craft business?"

Lysod raised an eyebrow. "Aye, there are some fishy matters afoot."

Islyn held back a snort. "Yes, well. All puns aside… can I come with you?"

"Why?" The master fisher asked. "Want to rub elbows with Lord Kaldyrn's girl again?"

"Well…" Islyn blinked innocently. "It doesn't hurt to have friends in high places, does it? Besides, she's wonderful!"

Lysod snorted. "That's one way to put it. Fine, but do keep your guard up around that one."

"Oh dear… Did something happen to your other dresses?"

Islyn took in Kaede; her gorgeous gold gown, vibrant red hair, and luminous green eyes, and looked down at her own forest green dress. It was well-fitting and soft to the touch. She'd thought it would do well for the visit.

"I'm not… sure what you mean," Islyn admitted.

"It's _green_. It's bad luck, remember?" Kade sighed. "Honestly, Islyn, I expected better of you."

"And you should! I'll… I'll do better next time."

"See to it. It would be unfortunate if I were to have to stop being seen with you."

Maybe Islyn was no Kaede, but back at Sunstone Hold, she was the most beautiful, promising, proper young lady around. She held onto that knowledge and wrapped it around her like a second skin. So what if she wasn't betrothed yet? Her parents were just waiting for the best possible opportunity. Or maybe she was meant for something even better than that - distant lands and golden dragon wings.

But for now she was stuck at Sunstone Seahold. And at Sunstone Seahold, she had a responsibility to make sure that her peers remembered their place. To be the Kaede of her community.

"Brinna!" Islyn cried, marching over to the unfortunate young woman. "What have you done to your hair? It's ghastly!"
