Description: The Wingsecond talks to Syntara about her behavior.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 11, day 13 of Turn 3
Syntara's muscles were twitching for drills to be over with. True that she had come a little late, but she wasn't in the mood to stay late to hear another one of U'das's lectures - whatever the subject.
By the time they were officially dismissed, the greenrider felt deeply in need of a drink or a tumble - and maybe both. She was headed out the Weyrbowl just as fast as she could when, much to her chagrin, somebody called her name.
"Syntara. A moment?" the second had heard much of what was said by their wingleader but he wanted to add a few things.
Syntara kept her back turned while she rolled her eyes heavily, but made sure to check the expression before turning around. "Of course Wingsecond J'ren."
"Is there something worng? Something you might need a leave of absence for?" granted it wasn't in his power to give it, but he could and would speak to U'das.
"Nothing is wrong." She answered gruffly. She was getting so sick of people asking her that. "I just haven't been myself lately."
"Have you spoken to a healer?" He knew it was his duty, if the greenrider continued refuse to seek any help he's ask U'das to ground her.
"I've been seeing the healers exactly as I've been instructed to.
Everything is healing just fine." Syntara knew that wasn't what J'ren was getting at, but she hopped it would pass.
"A mindhealer? I know you may think you don't need to but anything like this should be discussed with one."
Syntara was silent for a long moment. "So is that an order or a recommendation?" She hopped it was the latter.
"Do I need to make it an order?" he asked blandly. Syntara had been in his wing long enough to know that he would.
Syntara cringed good-naturedly and tried to whine. "Are you _seriously_
going to send me to a mindhealer? I've just been late a few times. It takes longer to get ready when I have to change this thing all the time!" She pointed at her leg to emphasize her lie.
"If your injury is enough of problem that your late for drills mabye you should return to the healers." he replied, he hated whineing.
"I won't be late again, J'ren. I promise. Just... don't make it an order." She was totally genuine. The last thing she needed was to talk about what had happened to her to someone who wouldn't understand. She'd deal with things in her own way and if making it to drills everyday was the only way she'd ge to do that, then she'd make sure she was there.
"Last chance Syntara" he warned her. "We want you well and if your not, you a liabilty to the wing."
The greenrider knew perfectly well that she wasn't well. She also knew that J'ren and the rest of the weyr knew it, too. She wasn't about to lie to her Wingsecond, but she wasn't about to go to a mindhealer either. "I won't be late again."
J'ren nodded, "This isn't personal Tara." he said in a kinder tone. I meant it, we want you to get well."
"If you really did you would have done something yourself instead of handing me off to some mindhealer." She didn't say it harshly, but she suspected J'ren would take it that way. But it was true enough, wasn't it? Wishing her well wasn't the same as trying to make her that way. She shrugged one shoulder, gave him an apologetic look, and walked away.
"I'm not healer, greenrider, I'll leave that work to those who are." was his parting statment."
