Description: Reven and Arippa share good news and bad after a day of hard work.
Location: Green Valley Hold
Date: month 6, day 25 of Turn 11
It had been a good day working out in the fields. Some days Reven
snuck out from his office to do manual labor. Those were his favorite
days. He'd never actually planned on being the holder of Green Valley.
He'd always thought Namrien would be the holder and he would get to
stay at Red Rush, marry a girl, and spend his life farming.
He liked farming. Farming was simple. Being the holder? Being the
holder was not simple. There were always problems but no matter how
hard he tried there was always someone unhappy with the solutions.
Tipping the brim of his hat back, Reven sighed as he propped against
the wheelbarrow he'd been using and looked back at the main hold.
Green Valley rose up in the midst of the luscious fields around it,
looking like a harper painting.
~~Happy, happy. Arippa. Pippa. Happy, happy.~~ Keeper swooped around
his head before coming in for a crash landing on Reven's shoulder,
talons digging in and causing his human to wince.
"Take it easy," Reven said, reaching up to stroke the bronze firelizard's head.
Keeper sent happy images of Arippa and Pippa to Reven, showing that
he'd just come from their quarters where he'd received many tasty
snacks.
If he'd stayed at Red Rush, he never would have met Arippa. By this
point, she would have been married to his cousin Namrien. It was an
unimaginable thought to him now. Their courtship had been arranged by
Lady Felyna but Reven hadn't needed much encouragement to fall in love
with Arippa. He was certain any man could fall in love with Arippa.
"Tell our Lady that I'm on my way in," Reven told Keeper.
Shoving his little arrow-shaped muzzle into Reven's ear, Keeper huffed
with both nostrils playfully, nipped at his human's ear, and then
launched back into the sky, zooming towards the main structure at full
speed.
Arippa sat in their daughter's room at a tiny table with a play tea set
and six tiny chairs set around. In the center of the table were two
plates full of cookies and meat rolls. She poured pretend tea made up
of red fruit juice and her daughter giggled as the little blue Mystery
flicked his tongue into his cup while green Peridot chattered at him
from across the table.
"Mind your manners," she said to the little firelizards as she placed
a cookie on her daughter's plate and meat rolls on the firelizards.
Keeper burst into the air chattering brightly but when he saw the
meatrolls he immediately settled in his chair with a perky chirp. And
gave his message.
She smiled at Pippa when she received the visual of her husband
walking toward the Hold. "Papa's coming," she said with a smile.
Reven came trudging it not long after that, still bearing the signs of
the hard work he'd put in for the day.
"Ladies, I'm home," he called.
"Papa's dirty!" Pippa giggled.
"He sure is sweetie," Arippa giggled too. "Do you think he should wash?"
"Maybe you both need a hug first?" Reven threatened, slowly
approaching his ladies with his arms stretched out wide.
Pippa jumped up squealing with laughter and ran to hide behind her mother.
"Reven!" Arippa held up a warning finger and shook her head. "Don't
you..." and she went squealing in a different direction.
Reven lunged after Arippa, crossing the room in a single stride as he
caught her up in his arms. "Oh, but you do smell lovely," he purred.
"Daddy got you!" Pippa said in a sing-song voice, bouncing around them
in excited circles.
She couldn't help laughing as she tried to twist away. "Yes he did,"
she grinned down at their daughter. "But you tell him he should be
gentle with me now because he's going to have a baby." She twisted
her neck around to try and see his reaction to the news.
Reven froze. A myriad of emotions passed across his face. Shock first,
and then a beaming happiness. "Arippa," his hold on her gentled
instantly. Pippa was going on four Turns and they'd yet to be pregnant
with another. Part of Reven had begun to think that another child
might not be in their future.
"Yeah, Papa! There's a baby in Mommy's tummy!" Pippa leaned in
conspiratorially and whispered, "I'm going to name it Peaches." Her
favorite food _was_ peaches.
The Green Valley Holder laughed and scooped Pippa up to join him and
Arippa in their embrace. "When?" he asked Arippa, stroking his fingers
over her cheek.
She turned in his arms and captured his face in her hands. "Late third
month or early fourth. I was going to tell you tonight," she smiled
and pulled his head down to her level so she could kiss him.
Reven's lips had barely brushed his wife's when an abrupt knock came
at the door. He pulled back, brow furrowed. It was unusual for them to
be interrupted in their quarters. "I'd better see what that is," he
said, pressing his lips to Arippa's forehead before setting Pippa down
and swinging open the door.
"Petreyv, what is it?"
"There's a fire, milord. In the wheat field."
The wheat! Green Valley's main economy was farming and one of
its staple crops was wheat.
"Go, I'm right behind you," he told the farmhand.
Reven turned back to Arippa, trying not to let the worry show on his
face in front of Pippa. "I've got to go, ladies." He stooped and
pressed a kiss to the top of Pippa's head. "Be good for your mother."
Straightening, he pulled Arippa in for a quick hug. "I'll be back as
soon as I can."
"Go," she nodded and held Pippa's hand as she watched him leave.
