This part was always awkward. Once Roquath was back to his normal level of annoyance instead of the full bodied rage of chasing (and losing), all that was left was exhaustion. He laid there for a little while, content with the feeling of a warm body nearby as his heart slowed and his breathing returned to normal. Eventually he mustered the energy to untangle himself and slip on his pants. He returned quickly with two cups of water, passing one to D'erik as he sat back on the bed.
"How are you doing?"
D’erik, who had only just gotten his head through his shirt, left it hanging like a scarf around his neck, in favor of taking the cup of water.
“Well, I am great now. That was exactly the kind of break I needed. You?” He propped against the headboard to drink his water.
"Definitely a better alternative than the walk to the bathing rooms." E'kavas said with a grin. "I hope this didn't disrupt your day too much."
D’erik eyebrows lifted a little. “Well, it didn’t interrupt _my_ day, necessarily, but I was stitching up a pretty complicated cut on I’maek’s face when that green up and went.”
E'kavas nearly choked on the water he had raised to his lips. "Poor I'maek." He said. "Thank goodness for numbweed, I guess? I hadn't really thought about the healers having to trade-off midway for Flights before."
"I've never had it happen during an actual procedure. Poor guy, hopefully the rest of his stitches turned out okay. I'maek loves that face of his, I mean, understandably, I guess." D'erik finished off his water and set it aside in favor of pulling his shirt the rest of the way on.
E'kavas tried to smother his laughter by forcing a frown, and wasn't entirely successful. "He _does_, doesn't he?" He said. "Well, I hope it doesn't scar. Or if it does, it's flattering."
"Oh, that's an idea. The next time you see him, comment on his roguishly handsome scar. Maybe the rising green did him a favor?" D'erik stood and finished buttoning his pants.
"Hah! I will. I'maek's due a little razzing. He cheats at cards." Heck, he could probably get G'zan in on it too. He considered that as he watched D'erik get dressed. "This is why I can't do anything so important. Roquath seems to take pleasure in interrupting me."
"Oh? What did he interrupt you from today?" D'erik asked.
E'kavas held up one hand and wiggled his fingers. "My daughter and I were in the middle of some self-care." He said dryly. "I think she was planning on trying a little flower design."
D'erik couldn't believe he hadn't noticed E'kavas's fingers before but well... He'd been occupied with noticing lots of _other things_ about the brownrider. "Well, she certainly has an eye for fashion. They'll be a hit at your next dragonpoker game."
"At least she's staying mostly on the nails these days. It's a much cleaner look." E'kavas said with a grin. "It's _always_ a hit at dragonpoker. Especially when she uses sparkles."
"I'm just imagining how you use that to hustle marks out of the other players. There they are, thinking you're Mister Dad with your fancy nails, and then," D'erik snapped his fingers, "you've taken all their money."
"Oh, does it ever. No one expects the guy with glitter to have a good poker face, but I'm used to looking serious over ridiculous stuff." E'kavas agreed. "G'zan never learns. But he does eat all my snacks, so I guess we're even."
"Let me know the next time you're having a game. I have plenty of marks to spend, and I must admit, I do like snacks." D'erik glanced around for his boots, finding one near the bed and the other one lying haphazardly by the door.
"You're welcome to share in G'zan's stipend. We play again in a couple sevendays." E'kavas said. He paused a moment, considering, as he watched D'erik put on his boots. "Do you have any spare time between now and then?"
Sliding his belt into place and making quick work of the buckle, D'erik looked up at E'kavas. "A little. Why?"
"Well, um-" E'kavas' brain decided to pause for a moment. "Would you be interested in getting klah or something later, during that free time? I'll be a bit more engaging than I am right now." D'erik looked at E'kavas, _really_ looked at him now, as someone more than a fun flight-lust partner. "I'd like that," he answered honestly.
E'kavas paused for a moment, the surprise evident on his face before he awkwardly cleared his throat. "Okay, great. Uh- you got time over the next few days?"
D'erik considered his schedule in the healer rotation along with his wing drills and Threadfall before answering, "I've got some time the day after tomorrow. I've got the candlemark after midday free.
E'kavas considered a moment, wishing not for the first time that he'd brought his planner with him. "I think I am too. Should I meet you at the dining hall?"
"The Dining Cavern sounds perfect. I'll make sure to bring a thrilling anecdote from the infirmary with me, or perhaps an update on I'maek's face." The bluerider flashed a grin.
E'kavas laughed. "I'maek's supposed to be paired with me on Sweep tomorrow, so we can take notes and reconvene."
"Oh boy, you're in for a treat, then. I'maek could already talk circles around a harper, but now given the recent events with his face? He'll be extra talkative, I'm sure." Talking on sweep rides was already difficult, but I'maek had no reservations about having his green relay everything he wanted to say to his sweep partner's dragon.
"Especially since he'll be _thinking_ it at me. I love playing message relay." E'kavas rolled his eyes and grinned. "So it's a date?"
"It's a date," D'erik said, thinking that he might even wear something other than his healer's tunic for it.... Maybe.
