Casmari

Casmari

And here she was, back again at Barrier Lake. It was Piketh's golden
wings that flew her home, although it had been Vemyth's blue ones that
had taken her to Dragonsfall...

**Flashback**

Casmari was all gasps and smiles as blue Vemyth unfurled his wings
above Dragonsfall Weyr and brought them in for a smooth landing in
front of the cliffside Weyr. She'd been to Dragonsfall once before
when she was very little for a hatching that her mother had allowe
her to attend. The triple cliffs dusted lightly with snow were still
just as breathtaking.

"Home sweet home," C'ris said as he swung his leg over Vemyth's neckridge.

"Xasvi!" Casmari looked down to see a familiar greenrider, and
launched herself the distance from Vemyth's neckridge down into her
older sister's arms.

Xasvi had been so excited to hear about Casmari coming _here_, to step
outside of their mother's shadow and get a chance to flourish. She'd
always craved her independence, and the idea of staying at the same
place as a goldriding mother...sure wasn't independence.

As the dragon emerged from /between/ , she started bouncing up and
down on her toes, with just enough time to brace herself for the
inpact before throwing her arms around her younger sister. "Welcome,
darling!"

"Xasvi," C'ris greeted Rasme's oldest daughter with a smile.

Casmari was all excitement. "Can you believe it? Us living at the same
Weyr again?

"Until I move again," Xasvi joked. Her wanderlust and difficulty
staying at the same location was well-known. "But I just got here, so
I'll stay here for at least a Turn, I promise."

“You’d better stay at least until I Impress and graduate
Weyrlinghood,” Casmari insisted.

“No pressure,” C’ris laughed.

"I promise! I promise! I will never leave you alone for that," Xasvi
promised. She clapped Casmari on the back twice more before stepping
back.

"So now you're here, and can meet the headwoman and get moved in, and
then we can go all kinds of adventures!"

C'ris nodded to Xasvi. "I'll leave you two to it."

Casmari spun around and popped a kiss to her father's cheek. "Thanks
for the ride, Dad."

"Anytime." Besides... he had a date with a certain prickly goldrider
at Barrier Lake.

"I've heard the Headwoman is _intense_. Is she?" Casmari asked,
turning back to her sister.

"She is. I do not want to cross her. And you know I'm fine crossing a
lot of people," Xasvi said.

"Do you think we have time to get a little something to eat in the
Dining Cavern and catch up before I go see her?" Casmari, having been
significantly younger than the rest of her siblings, had missed
growing up around them.

"Absolutely," Xasvi said immediately. "I happen to know one of the
servers on duty today and I'm sure I can get us some extra sweets."

"So tell me," Casmari said as they walked into the Dining Cavern. "Who
are the favorites in the Candidate group? I'm sure there are a few
people feel certain will impress." With Chioneth's hatching a
fortnight away, she knew that the betting would have already begun on
who would impress what.

“There’s a new Search who has people astir. Alesvan is the son of a
second cousin of the Opal Cove bloodline, so naturally people want him
to Impress bronze. Though some people say green as a stereotype to
explain why they are letting him go, since he’s the heir to a local
minor Hold. Then there’s weyrbred girl Etikara, who folks are sure
will become the terror of her class.”

**End Flashback**

**So much for Alesvan, scratch that, _A'van_,** who had indeed
Impressed green, **and Etikara,** who had also impressed green and was
now sure to be the terror of the Weyrling Class.

At least they had impressed though, Casmari sighed. Still, at Barrier
Lake she had another chance. She would miss Xasvi, though. She loved
her older sister dearly and had looked up to her for as long as she
could remember. Xasvi was the picture of strength, intelligence, and
good humor. Everything that Casmari wanted to be. Maybe, she thought,
she could convince Xasvi to come to Barrier Lake, too....
