"Another Weyrling class graduated. Can you believe it?" Saibra said to Chioneth. The golden senior queen was lounging on her ledge, happily accepting eyeridge scratches from her rider.
}:They're a good group,:{ Chioneth agreed.
"Can you believe we have the first female bluerider in the Fighting Wings?"
}:Why is it unbelievable?:{ the gold asked.
"Because... well... because she's the first to do it."
}:Blue Weyrlings graduate to Wingriders all the time,:{ Chioneth said in a voice that was not impressed.
"Ugh, I _know_ but she's the first woman on a blue to do it," Saibra insisted.
Chioneth's head moved and she bumped Saibra with her snout. The bump was enough to back the Weyrwoman up a step.
}:I do not understand what that has to do with anything.:{
"Nevermind," Saibra sighed. She knew better than to argue with Chioneth when she had _that_ tone.
"I'd better get inside and get the new Wingriders recorded."
}:Hmm, yes, go scratch on those little hides. I am going to eat. I've been eyeing a certain herdbeast.:{ The lightly golden queen stood and stretched her wings. She unfurled her tail with a snap before she launching herself off of the upper cliff.
"She is _so_ moody. Good grief," Saibra grumbled as she watched her lifemate gliding over to the feeding pens. Turning and retreating into her office, she pulled out the Wing ledgers.
"Now, let's see," she picked up her stylus. "K'aur and his Remiath were tapped into Azure Wing. A good thing, they were a little low on solid browns." There was an edge to K'aur, Saibra thought, but he'd performed solidly during Weyrlinghood and K'reyel had seen the potential. "J'kellar," she wrote the name with a little flourish over the double Ls. "And his blue Rokolth, also in Azure Wing."
Her stylus moved next to the Cobalt Wing column where she added Gienah and Esieth's names. She liked the young greenrider. There had been some consideration in bringing her into the Queen's Wing. Saibra liked to snag quick and agile pairs that she thought would make good wingriders at catching falling riders. In the end, however, Cobalt had needed the greenrider more.
"P'naerin goes to Cyan." She chuckled under her breath. P'naerin was as straight-laced as it came. She believed he was going to find Cyan quite eye-opening.
The list continued and more than once the Weyrwoman stopped to massage her hand a little and rub her eyes.
Her stylus hovered over the final name. Kadira of Blue Ishath. There had been _much_ discussion between the Wingleaders over what to do with the first female bluerider. She had finished Weyrlinghood strongly. She was as good as any pair, but... She _wasn't_ just _any_ pair. There were other things to consider, and after the fiasco that had happened early on, Saibra wanted to keep a closer eye on Kadira. She wanted to make sure the young woman was well-supported, and she felt she could only do that if _she_ was Kadira's Wingleader.
The stylus made a light scratching sound on the ledger as Saibra wrote Kadira's name under Sienna Wing.
For a moment, Saibra allowed herself to look at the name of the two Weyrlings who had not graduated. Both had been lost during Weyrling training. One in their First Blooding and the other when they were learning to /between/. They were reminders that casualties happened. She hoped that with the new Weyrlingmaster team the casualties would go from two to zero.
There was also J'ler to consider, who would be graduating later than the rest of his class thanks to his attempt to sneak off to Dolphin Cove. She smiled as she remembered it. She really did like J'ler and admired that he wanted to do something for his sister. That hadn't stopped her from agreeing to his punishment, but still.. she liked him. She knew that K'reyel was also eyeing him as a potential member of the Weyrleader's Wing once he successfully graduated.
As she heard Chioneth landing once again on the ledge, she slid the hides aside and stretched her arms over her head. **Finished already?**
}:Yes,:{ Chioneth responded, but there was a level of crankiness to her voice that made her rider's eyebrows shoot up.

}:Kohath was already eating _my_ herdbeast when I arrived.:{
**Well, I mean... it wasn't as if it had your name on it, darling.**
}:I _saw_ it. It was _mine_.:{
**Oh my,** Saibra was barely containing her laughter. **Were you mean to poor Kohath?**
Chioneth flicked her tail, saucily tossing her head from side to side as her long tongue darted out to clean the blood from her snout.
}:I ate a different herdbeast and then threw the carcass at him.:{
