Date: month 1, day 2 of Turn 12
Her stomach happily full from her hunt, Neath backwinged to settle on the grassy cliffs that were on top of the Weyr. The feeling of grass underfoot instead of stone was a novelty to the former Dragonsfall green, and it felt nice. Overhead her flits Dusk and Marli chittered at her to settle so they could lay on her head knobs and have a nap. But as she did their bidding she noted a certain bronze close to her spot. He was a brightly coloured one, and her wingmate to boot. Perhaps he might catch her one day? She grumbled a greeting to him before letting the two flits settle on her.
The big bronze was lounging in a contented doze in the sun. So far, he was enjoying the weather here much better than High Reaches. The chittering of the firelizards and the landing of another dragon roused him, however, and Avicath opened one eye to see who was joining him. Recognizing one of his wingmates, he closed it again. }: Your pets are noisy.:{
Marli all but dropped out of the sky and onto the ground. Who was this…this…this unworthy creature who spoke to his beloved Neath like this?? He puffed his tiny blue body up to attack.
But before he could, Neath warned him that she had this. To Avicath, she said, }:My_friends_can make all the noise they wish.:{ She made a point of settling and making her own noise.
Dusk got her drift and chittered loudly before taking to the sky and circling over the big bronze’s head once before settling back with Neath. Marli was still too upset to join in. All he wanted to do was bite that bronze right on the nose.
}: Can they do it elsewhere? I was napping.:{ He didn't make any move to stir himself, though, nor did he do more than open one eye again as Dusk circled his head. }: My rider wants one of those. Are they useful?:{ Mild curiosity entered his tone.
}:They like to stay with me and I’m_not_planning on moving anytime soon:{ She gave him a dismissive sniff. }:They are friends, they aren’t a tool to be useful or not:{ Marli made a squawk that sounded a lot like ‘yeah, take that!’
}: That one's fierce.:{ Not smart, Avicath thought privately, but fierce. }:I guess being funny is a use.:{
At that insult Marli puffed himself up and stormed over to Avicath. He stood directly in front of the big bronze and squawked as loud as he could. That’d show him!
Neath gave them both a droll look. }: He’s my protector:{ The much wiser Dusk had settled in the nice spot where Neath’s wing membrane met her back.
Avicath opened his eyes to regard the little firelizard, then he took a deep breath and snorted it out at him, trying to see if he could blow him back a little. }:I can see that. I don't know what he thinks he's protecting you from.:{ Reluctantly giving up his nap, he kept his eyes fixed on the little creature.
}:He’s gone through some tough times:{ Neath was wise enough to not recall those dreadful days when Marli’s pet and her green had died. There was no point in reminding the little blue, she was just grateful that he had stayed with her. }:He’s a good friend:{
For his part, little Marli snorted back at Avicath and dug his talons into the ground so he couldn’t be blown back.
Avicath gave one more hard snort, then apparently gave up on tormenting the little creature. }:Sure. Of course he is.:{ The skepticism in his tone was clear, but he was willing to let the green 'win'. It was her who had to endure the squawking anyway.
Neath’s eyes began to whirl red. Silently she hoped both flits would make more noise. :}You can always move back to your weyr:{
}:No,:{ Avicath said simply. }:I like the sun here, and Tym has company more annoying than the little ones.:{ There was another bronze at his weyr making an attempt to woo the gold. Now that they'd been banned from bringing Tymborikath snacks (and Avicath had been banned from eating those snacks), he saw no reason to watch the other bronzes attempt to win over the gold.
Neath let out a snort. Served him right. She curled up in the sun like a feline and tuned out the chatter from Marli. Dusk was already asleep, being much better mannered. For his part, Marli decided he didn’t like the bronze beast and had flown to the tree above Avicath and began to shake the branches so dried seeds and bit of branches fell on the bronze.
Avicath twitched when a particularly large stick landed on him, but didn't open his eyes. }:You can tell him I'm ignoring him. I used to babysit. I'm good at this,:{ he told the green.
Neath yawned mightily and blinked. }:Did you say something?:{ At that moment Marli managed to loosen a rather large branch with a squeal of triumph.
Two could play that game. Avicath just shook his great bronze bulk, sending the seeds and sticks scattering. He was a big bronze, and nothing the little blue could hit him with was more than mildly annoying.
But there was no reply from Neath. She had fallen asleep. Marli eyed the bronze beforeâ€"with a ‘hurumpth’â€"flew down to his beloved green and curled up on his favourite spot just behind her head knobs.
