I'lon was on the hunt for his next read. The last one had been positively disappointing. The heroine had turned out to be uncharacteristically a hopeless romantic, the antagonist decided to give in to the demands and compromise on -- oh, it was honestly just awful. Awfully written, awfully executed. I'lon was trying to remember who had recommended it to him as he lithely stalked the racks of books and other reading paraphernalia.

}: With such critique, it is a wonder that you finished it at all, :{ Napeth remarked.

**I held on to a dogged, futile hope that it would end well. The environments, at least, were well-written. The rest of it was not.** He fingered one book, then put it back. Turned the corner, browsed the next few titles. Heard someone else in the room but did not immediately abandon his search. I'lon was hypervigilant in that way -- he always seemed to be aware of others around him thanks to Turns of bullying but adulthood had mellowed him in that he no longer expected to be assaulted. He was no longer the little bullied boy.

The other person drifted closer in a way that indicated they too were browsing through the offerings, though perhaps oblivious to I'lon's presence, so the bluerider adjusted his course to idly intercept, curious as to who else could be looking for a new read.

}:Oh I did like that tale about the dashing dragonrider rescuing those holders! :{ Quilienth enthused. }:Though I do not understand why he did not stay to feast with them, when they were being so friendly and thankful... And the Holder's daughter wanted to dance with him.:{

** That's because he had to go home, Quilienth. ** M'til responded. ** And you like all the romance tales. **

}: I like when you read to me.:{ Quilienth replied, and M'til spared a moment to just be with him mentally, before moving on.

".... Now. Where was that one book....?" He asked, half rhetorical, before M'til spotted the other rider and nodded a courteous greeting. "... Hello." He greeted. They looked vaguely familiar-- though they definitely weren't from his Wing.

"Hello," I'lon replied evenly. He had long ago perfected an expression that was one part polite, one part steel, and one part resting bitch face -- which gave him the overall impression of either being ready to laugh at someone's joke or verbally cut them to their core at a mark flip. The only indication that he was in a good mood was in his eyes, where curiosity twinkled in between heterochromatic rings. "I assume that you are also on a recreational reading mission?" he inquired. Or perhaps they weren't. Maybe they were here for information. Possibilities...including disappointments...awaited.

"I am." M'til confirmed. "Perhaps even two. Quilienth likes to be read to, when there's time." He added. "... He likes romantic things, when he can remember."

A pause. "What sort of reading are you looking for?"

}: How quaint, :{ Napeth remarked dryly, }: Reading to one's dragon. Quilienth, he said? Hm. :{ Which meant that Napeth was probably now talking to the other dragon out of curiosity.

"Not romance," I'lon replied, "I find them...too sugary." He supposed that made sense. It at least did so to him. "I prefer histories or action stories." The bluerider tilted his head to the side. "I'm I'lon," he introduced himself.

"M'til, of blue Quilienth." M'til responded, and offered a hand in greeting. "Histories are enjoyable, too." He added in agreement. "I admit, I'm not much of an action fan. We get enough action in our daily lives. But Quilienth... He likes the idea of romance, so..." He shrugged, in an 'I don't really mind' sort of way.

}: Oh! Hello! :{ Quilienth greeted when the other blue greeted him. }: I do hope it is all right for my M'til to talk to Yours. It is only polite to mind if others are busy or not.:{

I'lon looked at the proffered hand for a moment, then met M'til's gaze as he slid his hand into that grasp briefly. "Your dragon has sound logic in his thinking," he remarked. "I suppose, on that vein, I enjoy histories to learn from past mistakes. Though sometimes it is interesting to see how different times were back then. What has changed over the Turns." There was momentary thoughtful pause and then, "Perhaps...a book swap, if you would be interested? You suggest a romance for me, I suggest something for you."

Meanwhile, the two blues were chatting on a slightly different tangent. }: I am glad that mine is talking to yours. He is...particular, but I do love him in spite of and because of that. Human company is not his preference. I am curious -- do you enjoy yours reading to you? I had not considered asking mine to do so. :{

"... Aye. I woudn't mind that." M'til responded, grasping the hand a moment, before releasing it. ".. Don't worry. I'll choose something on the more tasteful side." he added. "Some of them are... rather inaccurate."

}: Oh Mine is particular, too, but it is a good kind of particular. :{ Quilienth asserted. }: He is very good at knowing the rules, and also following them. He says it is important. :{ A brief pause. }: And I very much like when Mine sits and reads to me, because then we are together, and all is well, even if I do not remember most of the stories. Mine says I think the romances are sweet, and if I do not remember, I can enjoy them again if I please. :{ Draconic logic at its finest.

Napeth made a contemplative sound. }: Perhaps I will ask mine to read some of his books then. He is quite fond of them. He learns a lot from them. :{

"Inaccurate?" I'lon asked. One eyebrow quirked curiously.

}: Certainly, it is pleasant to have Yours with you. :{ Quilienth tells Napeth. }: When they want to be, of course! :{ he adds.

"Some of the language is too... Too flowery." M'til clarifies. "Overly descriptive."

"Unrealistic," I'lon added. His voice dropped to an amused purr. "As romance novels are wont to do. Not everyone can be so...endowed. It is far more...exciting...when one knows how to maximize what one was born with, mm?"

}: Are you flirting? :{ Napeth inquired.

**Not precisely. Though it is fun to see how one might react to a bit of it.**

M'til colored slightly; but then he nodded. "Aye. I suppose you could say that." he allowed, if a bit stiffly. "I prefer to think of such things as private, though of course one is allowed to brag and boast, if they like. Action, to me, speaks far more than words." he added.

"But.. I suppose everyone would have their own romantic preferences, don't they. Some enjoy prose and bluster, or there would be no audience, would there?"

I'lon nodded. "Indeed, without an audience, a show is a lost opportunity. But, like you, I've ne'er been one to bluster and pose. Nor gravitate towards those that do. I am rather boring, as Napeth says sometimes. A book, some tea, comfortable and settled in for the evening. Is that your idea of time well spent as well?"

"You have the measure of me." M'til responded, and gave a sort of wry shrug-- but his own embarrassment was faded now. "And I do not think it is boring, to know what you prefer and stick to it. We've enough excitement in our lives with Threadfall." he added.

His expression quirked into a faint smile. "Though I don't think my Quilienth has ever called me boring."

}: Oh I could NEVER! :{ Quilienth asserted.

There was a pause. An assessment. An internal decision made. And then, I'lon's blue-ringed gold eyes danced. "Perhaps, you'd be interested in being boring together for an evening?"

M'til considered, for a moment; and then he nodded, inclined his head to the other rider. "Certainly." He responded. "I would be glad for the company; and Quilienth says Napeth is welcome to share his ledge as well, if he pleases."

}: I like company too. :{ Quilienth added, more mildly. }:If you please, of course, Napeth.:{

The dancing didn't leave I'lon's eyes. "Two nights hence?" he suggested.

"That will suit me." M'til conceded, but he looked pleased as well. "I will provide the tea. Which is your preferred flavour?" he added

I'lon made a half-hearted dismissive gesture, as though he didn't care what sort of tea was offered, even as he said, "Decaffeinated, preferably. Though I'll not be picky. The company is preferred more."

M'til smiled back, a small quietly pleased expression, even as he inclined his head. "Of course; consider it done." He responds. "And... I look forward to the company as well."

}:As do I.:{ Quilienth contributed hopefully.
