Kamalia and Alaudath had been back in their own weyr for two days.
Being able to fly together again had been exhilarating. It gave her
confidence that they were close to being back to normal. She was
looking at the riding straps she had been using when they had been
Scored, wondering if any part of them could be salvaged, when Alaudath
spoke.
}:Tribeth and Reanth's riders want to stop by.:{
**Sure. They can come.** Kamalia stored the riding straps away and
took a quick look around her room, but nothing was out of place.
Jaylene, in her role as Wingthird, had briefly visited the day they
were Scored. Since she was coming with her brother this time, Kamalia
hoped this would be more of a social visit.
Tribeth replied to Alaudath’s reply and circled closer to the weyr.
The slender bronze back winged, careful with his two passengers.
“Tribeth, it’s so kind of you to give us a lift.” Jaylene slided off
the slender bronze’s shoulder and gave him a pat. Reanth was tired out
from the drills earlier, but it was nice riding her baby brother’s
dragon. Jay grinned up at her brother and lent a hand out to help him
down.
“Why thank you,” he said, laughing. They strolled still laughing into the weyr.
“Hello Kamalia, how’re you feeling?” Jaylene asked kindly. “Hello
Alaudath, you’re looking well!” Slightly behind her, J’nne smiled his
hello and nodded to the young woman.
"Hi Jaylene, J'nne. Thanks for coming by." Kamalia gestured to the
only two chairs she owned and took a seat at the edge of her bed. "I'm
doing great. And, we're not cleared to go /between/ yet, but Alaudath
can fly again, which is enough for now."
}:Has Tribeth ever caught me?:{ Alaudath asked her rider, excited to
have a bronze next to her.
**No.** Kamalia rolled her eyes and recounted Alaudath's question to
the other two. "Alaudath is pretty much back to her old self."
Tribeth eyed the green and gave a heavy sigh. Being a slender, rather
small bronze he wasn’t used to much female attention.
J’nne eyed the two women with a mischievous glint in his eye. “Tribeth
is dying a death right now.”
“Good,” Jaylene said with a laugh. “Flirt away, dear Alaudath! About
time that poor bronze got knocked out of his shell and started to
realise he’s a bronze.”
Tribeth gave a forlorn warble at her words.
"Tribeth, don't mind her," Kamalia called out. Alaudath just ignored
the humans, keeping her attention on her captive audience.
"So?" the greenrider asked her wingmates. "Have I missed anything
interesting?" Not even two sevendays had passed, but she felt
completely out of the loop.
“No, just mad gambling on who’s going to be the next Weyrleader,”
Jaylene said as she sat down. “J’zen thinks he’s going to make a
fortune out of it.” She rolled her eyes, showing her impression of
that. “You haven’t missed much.”
“Unless you fancy a wager,” J’nne piped in with a mischievous grin.
Speculating on the new Weyrleader was the perfect way to get her mind
off her current situation, although Kamalia was not sure she wanted to
put down any marks on it. "Is R'enh the favorite? I think it's between
him and L'val. Unless someone from another Weyr comes and surprises us
all."
“Massive favourite,” J’nne said. “Half the Weyr is betting on him, and
those that aren’t are going for L’val.”
“You can have this one,” and Jaylene ruffled J’nne’s hair, “For some
big odds.” She laughed at the deep red blush that crept up J’nne’s
face and across his cheeks.
Kamalia smiled, enjoying the sibling dynamics. "You never know," she
said generously. "Who else do we have in our wing? There's M'kayre..."
“Yeah, I think his odds were pretty okay.” Jaylene bit on her lower
lip, trying to remember exactly what his odds were.
J’nne tapped his fingers, himself trying to remember the odds. “I
think T’mhas had pretty long odds, which is a bit strange considering
what a large bronze Ghraisath is. I’serin too was at least 10-1, if
not longer. Aluneth is another larger bronze.” At those words, his
own, much smaller bronze warbled unhappily. “I’m just stating the
facts, Tribeth,” he called out to his lifemate. “See how you handle
that green before we think about chasing the Weyrwoman first, eh?”
"Well, if it isn't too late, I want in on the action." Kamalia walked
gingerly to her nightstand so she would not strain her leg and grabbed
a mark. "I'm going to be pretty boring though and split it between
R'enh and L'val." She handed the mark to J'nne. Then, looking at both
of them in turn, she spoke sincerely. "Thanks for coming by. Not
having drills or anything is disconcerting. I don't know what to do
with myself."
“I can always pop over and give you violin lessons.” J’nne gave her a
cheeky grin.
Jaylene swatted him over the head. “I’ve some books if you want
something to read. But you’ll be back before you know it.”
"I'm pretty sure I'd be a terrible violin student, but could always
use the company. And, I wouldn't say no to books. Do any have both
action and romance? Those are the most fun."
As Jaylene talked, Kamalia couldn't help but smile. While she did not
have any family at the Weyr like they did, getting 'Scored had shown
Kamalia how many cared about her. It was an amazing feeling. She
reaffirmed her commitment to spend more time cultivating these
friendships and being there when others needed it. But for now, she'd
just relax and enjoy.
