Description: The Weyrwoman and Headwoman have their usual morning meeting the day after Chioneth's flight.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 1, day 4 of Turn 12
Notes: Mentioned: I'serin, R'enh, Ashela
It was midmorning the day after Chioneth's flight, and the Weyr still
felt unsettled. As if it held its breath. It was similar to the way
the air felt after a thunderstorm. Oselle balanced a tray in one hand
and knocked on the Weyrwoman's door with the other. Usually she had
someone with her to carry the tray to her meetings with Saibra, but
today she felt as if the Weyrwoman could use some time away from
prying eyes.
Saibra was in her office, in nearly the same position she had been the
evening before, reclined in her chair with her eyes closed. "Come in,"
she called, knowing it was Oselle, punctual as usual for their
meeting.
"Weyrwoman, hello." Oselle entered and set the tray down on the desk
between them, then poured Saibra a cup of klah. She looked like she
needed it. "Congratulations on your new Weyrleader. I hope that
you are happy with Chioneth's selection?"
"Yes, thank you, Oselle." Saibra took the cup of klah and drank a
sobering gulp. "The flight did not go well. I am not upset with the
outcome. I think I'serin takes his new position very seriously, but
Chioneth injured Mnoranth during the flight."
"She did. Have you spoken with W'ser?" Oselle poured herself a cup of
klah and settled into her usual chair across the desk from Saibra.
"I spoke with him last night. Mnoranth will recover just fine." She
still didn't sound happy about it, however.
"And R'enh?"
"He was taken care of by Ashela." And that was all the comment Saibra
had on that front.
"Most importantly, how are _you_?" Oselle asked.
"I am...," she searched for the right word, "tired. I was so hoping
that someone like R'enh or L'val would win. I already know them. I've
worked with them as Wingleaders, so it would have been an easy
transition to having them be Weyrleader. I don't even know what prior
leadership experience I'serin has... I guess I'll find out today.
We're having lunch."
The Headwoman nodded in understanding. "You've had a stressful few
weeks, capped by a day full of change yesterday and a lot of
uncertainty ahead. Of course you're tired."
Saibra agreed with her Headwoman with a small smile. "How are things
in the kitchens?" she asked, eager to switch topics for a bit.
"Well enough. We will have a roast herdbeast feast tomorrow to
celebrate Chioneth's rising and the new Weyrleader. I have the
kitchens working overtime to make fingercakes with a cream filling for
dessert, and I think I will bring out some of the Turn 1201 reds for
my ranking dragonriders. Let the blue and greenriders deal with sore
heads for drills the next day, if they wish."
"Oh, some 1201 sounds delightful. I love a good red." Saibra studied
Oselle. She really was glad that the woman had decided to apply for
the Headwoman position. It was rare that Saibra had to _ask_ for
anything, Oselle was fantastic and anticipating what would be
required. "And perhaps we can get the harpers to provide some
entertainment?"
"I have a few signed up to play, but if there is anyone in particular
that you'd like to hear, please let me know and I will see if I can
arrange it. Or anyone that I'serin would like to hear," she added.
"Oh, yes," Saibra said, as if the new Weyrleader's preference was an
afterthought, "that would be the considerate thing to do, wouldn't
it?" K'reyel had always left such decisions to her, but Saibra wanted
to start her partnership with I'serin off on the right foot. "I'll ask
him. I'm supposed to be having lunch with him later."
Oselle sipped her klah, then set the cup aside. "If I'serin has any
preferences for a dessert, please have him let me know as well. I can
see what I can do to accommodate his requests."
Saibra nodded. "Of course." The Weyrwoman glanced at the clock on her wall.
}:Your weyrmate is back in the weyr. I have spoken with Mnoranth this
morning.:{ Chioneth told Saibra as the Weyrwoman finished up her
meeting with Oselle
**Tell him I'm bringing breakfast up,** Saibra replied.
"Thank you for your help, Oselle." The Weyrwoman stood, an indication
that their meeting was over.
Oselle inclined her head. "Of course," she said, rising as well.
"And... if I may, Weyrwoman. I'd like to reschedule the rest of your
meetings today and tomorrow. You could use the time, I think.
Chioneth's rising resulted in a lot of change, and no one would
begrudge you the time to deal with it."
A genuine smile appeared on the Weyrwoman's face. "Oselle, what would
I do without you?"
"You would do just fine," Oselle said. "Go meet with your Weyrleader.
I'll see to the rest."
