Saibra

With a clutch on the Sands, Saibra had abandoned her regular office for the one that was in the attached goldrider weyr in the Hatching Cavern. In many ways, she preferred the smaller, more secluded office. Since Chioneth was _extra_ protective of this clutch and its golden egg, no one ever came to Saibra when she was there.

**Ah, peace.** She was sure that people who would have normally come to her office to complain or ask questions would be seeking out Ashela's office instead. That thought made her smirk a bit.

Turning her head back to the book she'd borrowed from the Printer Hall's rental program, she didn't get an entire sentence read before she heard and felt Chioneth's rumble on the Sands.

**Someone must be in the Hatching Cavern. Who is it, Chioneth?** Saibra inquired, her brow furrowed. Who would dare?

Leaving her seat, she walked through the short tunnel that led out onto the Sands.

A woman was standing on the warm sands in front of Chioneth. One hip was thrust out, and her head was tilted to the side in that rakish way that always got her into or out of trouble.

Saibra smiled to see one of her most favorite people on Pern.

"Lyani!"

"Sai," Lyani said in her low, throaty drawl.

The two women threw their arms around one another.

"You could have told me you were planning on a visit!" Saibra scolded.

"Where's the fun in that? Besides, I wanted to get an eye on that gold egg." Lyani's teeth flashed into a full smile. "You finally did it, Sai. A _gold_ egg."

"Well, I'd like to take the credit, but Aluneth and Chioneth did all the work."

"You had to wake up to an inexperienced bronzerider who led the Weyr in a disastrous Threadfall. Don't sell yourself short."

"By all means, Lyani, speak your mind."

Lyani grinned irreverently. "Always."

The cousins walked together into the goldrider's temporary weyr.

"How's N'kyri?" Lyani inquired before tossing herself onto the couch and making a gesture of raising an imaginary cup to her lips.

Saibra's mouth twitched with amusement as she poured them both a glass of wine.

"Nikky is himself, which means, in trouble, but never the serious kind."

"Oh, Nikky. I'll have to pay him a visit as well," Lyani determined.

"How are you liking it at Dolphin Cove?" Saibra asked.

"Well, I like that it stays warm enough that people can go around half-naked comfortably. The sand on the beach is perfecto and the water," Lyani raised her glass in a toast to the tropical waters of Dolphin Cove.

"I liked that about it too, the warmth, that is," Saibra said reminiscently.

"Yeah, you liked Dolphin Cove so much you brought a souvenir back with you, I hear," Lyani's eyebrows raised suggestively.

Saibra's brows furrowed as she tried to follow Lyani's train of thought. **A souvenir from...** and then she noticed the gleam in Lyani's eyes.

"Ah, yes, R'enh, my 'souvenir,'" Saibra laughed.

"A hunky bed partner. Now, _that's_ the kind of keepsake I like."

"You mean, that's the kind of thing you like until it gets the least bit difficult. Then you bail, cut your losses, and find something new and exciting."

Lyani snapped her fingers. "Bingo, Sai. It certainly keeps life interesting."

"And the two blueriders you left behind? Neither of them have reached out to you since the breakup?" Saibra asked.

"T'vis and Py'ler are still going strong. They'll probably find a new person for their throuple soon. They're both handsome and charming, I'm sure it won't take them long." Lyani shrugged. Living with T'vis and Py'ler had been fun and exciting for a while, but that had eventually worn off, and then things had become complicated. Lyani didn't do complicated.

"Finish off your wine, then I'll take you to meet Saihen and Brenha. They'd like to meet their Cousin Lyani."

Lyani finished the wine with a backward toss of her head. "Let's go, then. Afterward, I'll swing by N'kyri's, and then go and give Ki'ben a wedgie, for old times' sake."
