"Alright, Harki," Vaile said as she slid down from Liranth's neck. "Let's see if Liranth can keep up with Cerillith this time now that her wing is healed." She grinned at her Wingmate, eager to see how this panned out. Recently cleared for Threadfall again, Liranth was eager to test her speed once more.
"Up the slope, turn north at the edge of the forest, over the edge of the plateau, across the weyrbowl, and first one to stand on top of the Starstones wins. Feet only, no claws Liranth." Harki shook a finger at the other green dragon. "I don't know what sort of punishment I'serin might dream up for scratching up the Starstones and I don't want to find out."
Vaile laughed. "Let's not find out then." She gave Liranth a pat before stepping away in order to give her lifemate room for takeoff. "Whenever Cerillith's ready."
}:I am ready,:{ Cerillith replied to Harki, her eyes glittering with anticipation. Usually she flew with Harki in challenges like these, but being able to leave her rider behind for once meant that she'd be free to fly as naturally as she wanted to. }:Tell me when to fly and I will fly!:{
**Be nice, Cerillith. Liranth is still getting back up to speed,** Harki reminded her.
Cerillith snorted. }:She can fly just fine. I will not be nice.:{ She paused. }:Maybe a little nice.:{
"She's ready to go." Harki joined Vaile off to one side of the ledge they were standing on. From their vantage point the Weyr and its lands rolled out beneath them, and they could see each part of the course clearly. "Ready, ladies? One, two... Go!"
Cerillith snapped her wings open and took to the air, Liranth close behind. The two greens took off like arrows up the slope behind where their riders stood.
Harki laughed and batted the dust stirred up from their wings from her face. "It's hard to tell that Liranth was ever 'Scored," she said to Vaile.
"It wasn't a true 'Scoring," Vaile explained as she watched the two dragons. Cerillith was keeping a solid lead but Vaile was fine with that. She mostly wanted to see how Liranth held in speed. "She wretched a muscle in her wing during..." The blonde greenrider fell silent, thinking back about that awful moment when I'lon had been killed. After a moment, she recovered and said, "I just want to make sure she didn't lose any of her mobility."
Mutely Harki reached out and gave Vaile's hand a quick squeeze in understanding. They should be used to losing people by now, but repetition never seemed to help make a loss easier to bear. "She looks good for being grounded and lounging around like a spoiled little green wherry. How many dragons did she persuade to hunt for her?"
The distraction worked. Vaile chuckled again. "Just Torth. He's been...attentive." Vaile could have said more but she really wasn't sure _what_ to say about K'far still. She wasn't sure what she wanted. "Looks like Liranth pulled ahead on that turn," she noted, nodding her chin toward the racing greens with a proud smile. "What about you? What have you been up to?"
"Oh, this and that. Rorela and I went to some hot springs not that long ago after a 'Fall, and I went surfing a few times around Dolphin Cove Weyr. Found a storm surge and got some good waves in." Harki smiled proudly at that. The waves were big and she'd gotten a lot of water up her nose, but it had been worth it. She'd even been shadowed by a few dolphins, although whether that was because of Cerillith or because they were worried she'd drown was still up for debate.
"Hot springs?" Vaile echoed, interested. "You'll have to tell me where! I do love a good hot soak. Especially if it's somewhere not well known. I've been looking for reasons to get away from the Weyr. So give me suggestions."
"I'll do you one better and go with you. Looks like our girls are nearing the end." Cerillith had caught up with Liranth again and the two greens were neck to neck as they raced up the cliffside toward the Star Stones. Harki could feel Cerillith's glee at flight and the fun she was having chasing another green.
Vaile grinned at Harki's offer. It would be good to spend time with some of her girlfriends. She turned her attention to their racing greens to see Cerillith pull ahead at the last moment, taking the win. "Well done!" Vaile congratulated. **You did marvelous, love. Way to keep Cerillith on her toes.**
}: I'll win the next one, :{ Liranth assured her as the two dragons began returning to their riders.
"So, next restday, maybe we go to the hot springs?" Vaile suggested to Harki.
"Oooor, we could go now?" Harki asked hopefully.
Vaile looked at the sun, gauging the time. "Sure," she answered with a playful smirk. "No practice left for today, right? We can grab some supplies and head out."
Harki grinned. There was no time like the present! "You get wine, I'll go find some sweet buns or dragontails or something for a snack, and I'll meet you by the Star Stones in half a candlemark."
