It took E'kirim a little while to catch his sister alone, between their family and friends and excited well-wishers for one of the latest bronzeriders at Dragonsfall. He slid into the seat next to her with all the casualness he always did, offering a full glass of wine to replace her empty one. "How are you doing?"
Mirima perked right up at the sight of a glass of wine and took a swig before she answered.
“Much better now! How are you and the lucky fellow?”
"I got some cool stitches from Zaphare's blue, the rude thing. Makes sense, I guess. Norrianth is no worse for having picked me yet. What do you think?" He put his hands on his hips and flexed a little, grinning. "Do I look every inch the dashing bronzerider?"
“Well, you'll probably have to ask one of your little friends what your every inch looks like, but from where I'm sitting, you look the absolute dashingest,” said Mirima. “Scars are hot.”
"Hey now, I'm a weyrling. The paragon of purity, because my weird lizard might panic if I look too deeply into someone's eyes." He said with a good natured roll of his eyes. "But really, are you ok? You and K'aur were the ones who really wanted to get Searched."
“Oh, I always knew this could happen.” Mirima smiled, and there really was only the barest hint of disappointment there. “I have a backup plan, anyway. And now I’ll have a lot more time for that.”
"That's good." E'kirim nodded, more to himself than to her. The guilt lingered in the corners around Norrianth. He had been happy to keep farming, whether it had been here or at Amber Hills, and a bronze dragon hadn't factored into any concept of a plan he had. "You'll let me know if anyone gives you trouble, right? And by anyone you know I mean K'aur."
“Oh, he knows better than to give me trouble. I'll put him over my knee.” Mirima grinned, but she was still happy to hear that E’kirim had her back.
E'kirim mirrored her grin. Their relationship had always been warm and easy compared to the strained teasing between brothers, and for a moment, E'kirim enjoyed the familiarity of it. A lot had changed today, but at least this hadn't. He realized too, almost offhandedly, that he probably could do that, too. He'd always been _bigger_, but he didn't often consider how quickly he'd grown once he started, and he was both taller and broader than K'aur despite being two turns younger.
"And you can wallow, if you find you want to do that later. Don't get K'aur monopolize all the angsting time." He said lightly, though he glanced at her to try and gauge whether or not he _should_ be concerned.
“You’re really worried, aren’t you?” Mirima smiled and pulled E’kirim into a hug. “Don’t be. I’m going to be just fine.”
"Well, yeah!" E'kirim said. "You've taken care of us more than the other way around. "And you're the one that got Searched. A dragon practically had to walk into me to think I could do it."
“Well, I’m glad I could help get you where you needed to be,” said Mirima. “I’ll have to base a character in my next story on you.”
"Please don't." E'kirim said with a laugh. "It'll just be a guy whining about being celibate for six months."
“Oh, I'm sure he'll be anything but celibate. That's the thing about writing" you can skip ahead to the good parts!” Mirima chuckled.
E'kirim groaned dramatically. "I should have known you'd say that. Well, I would like to romance the tragically misunderstood villain with a mysterious past."
“I think I can manage that. Any suspiciously specific requests about how they look?”
"Oh, dark and brooding, of course."
“Of course!”
