With a sigh, Cinale eased back on her heels, running her nails through the loose ends of her hair, trying to tuck them back into the braid coiled at the back of her head. Fey, who was perched on the edge of the cook's gathering basket, chirped a query. Grinning, Cinale looked down at her.
"Not yet, honny. We're _almost_ done. Then we can go rest and get some supper." The little green rustled her wings resignedly.
With an amused grin, she shook her head and went back to work searching through the plants, picking the leaves that would do in tomorrow's dish.
Gathering herbs certainly wasn't an unpleasant job, but Cinale was starting to get a little tired. And her lower back was starting to ache too. Maybe just another half a candlemark...
Daigoro tugged at his new, thankfully _fresh_ tunic and ran his fingers one more time through his damp hair. He couldn't waste the time to dry it. There was just someone he had to see. And there she was, almost right where he'd imagine she'd be, for besides the kitchen it seemed there was nowhere she loved more than an herb garden. "Well, now, there's my beauty," he grinned as he walked down the path between beds of sweet smelling herbs. "You look like you've settled right at home here."
She was up on her feet and rushing the last few lengths to him, her blue eyes bright, her face practically glowing with her joy in seeing him--at last. "Daigoro!" Her arms encircled him tightly before he had a chance to say anything in reply.
"Yes, love, it's me," he grinned as he wrapped his big arms around her and pulled her close. The Hallsecond burried his nose in her hair a moment, breathing in the scent of her. Shards how he'd missed her! "I've been called back to give my two marks on the new Vintner Hall. I should be meeting Fielton now, but I just had to see you."
"I'm so glad you came," she murmured against the side of his neck, pressing a gentle kiss there. "When did you get here?"
"About a half candlemark ago," he replied quietly, closing his eyes and just letting the feeling of normalcy sink in. It had only been a few sevendays, but it felt like so much longer. Holding Cinale, feeling her in his arms and listening to her voice, it felt so much more real than time he had spent in that waking nightmare of Amethyst Cliff. So much sadness, so much death, so much ruin and chaos. "It's so good to be home," he sighed, feeling so much lighter than he had felt even a candlemark before.
She smiled softly at that, then slowly moved so she could see his face. "It's finished then?" she asked quietly, her thumb brushing against his cheek.
"Oh no, love. It will be a long time before it's finished I'm afraid." He leaned into her soft touch, feeling more himself than he he had since the quake. "But I won't be needed so much. I'll just be going back for a day or two periodically. I'm needed here now, which suits me just fine."
Faranth, but she'd missed him. It felt so good to see him, to be in his arms, to touch him... "It suits me too."
He leaned down and kissed her softly. Daigoro had wanted to say so many things. He had wanted tell her how much he had missed her, how often he had thought about her, how much her letters had meant to him. But now that he was with her, he just wanted to forget they were ever apart. As much as he had once loved Amethyst Cliff, it meant nothing to him now. Now the only place he ever wanted to be was wherever she was. The sooner he forgot the last few sevendays, the happier he would be.
And she returned his kiss, just as softly, then tenderly guiding it a little deeper. Cinale, too, had wanted to tell him what she'd been feeling when he was at Amethyst Cliff...and how much she'd missed him, how much she had wished he was with her, or that she could have been with him...but her touch now spoke clearly enough.
Reluctantly, Daigoro pulled away. "I should meet Fielton," he whispered, lightly touching his nose to hers. "But will you give me a tour of our new home later?"
"I'd love to," she whispered back.
"Good." He reached back and grabbed her hands and unwrapped them from his body, but kissed them softly each in turn. "I'll come find you after my meeting," he promised as he squeezed her hands softly and turned to go. "Wait a moment," the Hallsecond said as he turned back towards her. "_Where_ will I find you?"
"Hmm...by the time your meeting's over? Probably my room or thereabouts... Wort can show you--he's been there before."
"Love, he flies /between/ to get there," Daigoro chuckled. "If I get lost, will you come find me?"
She blushed a bit, grinning. "Of course! I wouldn't have you wander about aimlessly. I'm not a cruel woman."
"And will you bake me some cookies?" he asked with large pleading eyes.
Laughing, she nodded. "With you looking at me like _that_, how can I refuse you?"
He grinned and gave her a wink before walking back towards the Hold to meet his Hallmaster, silently willing the candles to burn faster through their marks.
