Thayde

Enamra held back to the sidelines of the crowd, nervous to interact
with those dancing, but also proud of what she had accomplished. It
hadn't been easy and she'd been extremely anxious about her own
abilities to pull it off, but the Turns End Celebration was coming off
beautifully. The drudges and staff had actually paid attention to what
she had thought and they'd helped her, even though a few had seemed a
little bitter about it initially. She hadn't thought Thayde would
agree to allow her to take control over this, but he had and she hoped
that she'd proven herself, both as his wife and as something more than
just a girl.

She smoothed down the material of her own dress, far too fine for her,
in her opinion, but the dark blue silky stuff felt wonderful on her
own skin. She hadn't chosen to dance, but continued to move through
the buffet of food and checking the drinks, just to make sure that
everything was going just right. Seeing a platter of fruit rolls get
devoured, she quickly waved over a drudge to get it replaced, then
flitted around to the other side of the area to make sure that the
skins and bottles of wine were filled.

"May I have this dance?" a lilting voice asked. Thayde stood with a
hand and a small grin extended toward his wife. He'd watched her glide
about in her fetching dress, making sure that everything was just
right while others danced on the white powdery beach.

So distracted by her focus on the food and drink, Enamra jumped a
little as she heard Thayde's voice behind her. She held her hand to
her chest and then gave a little laugh as she exhaled. "You startled
me." She glanced at the food and then the drink again. "I suppose I
can. It looks like they're getting everything refilled." She took his
hand, but glanced again at the wines. "Does it all look alright? Is
everyone enjoying themselves?"

"Everything looks perfect and everyone is enjoying themselves. Now,
take a moment to enjoy your hard work." The Hallmaster led them to the
middle of the dance floor.

"But..." She trailed off as he led her away from the buffet tables,
then acquiesced to her husband's request with pink cheeks as she felt
eyes upon them both. "We're being looked at." Her voice was soft as
she looked up at him, but she placed one hand on his shoulder.

"Of course we are," Thayde smiled, his eyes only on her. "I'm dancing
with the most beautiful woman on the beach."

"You're silly." Enamra flushed at the compliment but leaned into his
touch. "I think I did okay this time, don't you think?" She kept her
gaze on him, her eyes bright. "I even had a bit of wine for myself,
but not too much."

"As you should," Thayde said. "You've done an outstanding job. Jylanya
would have been impressed. I have a few Headwoman applicants. Maybe
soon we'll have the position filled, but until then... I think you
have it more than handled."

He wanted to tell her more but the words felt caught in his throat.
Things were still awkward between them, physically. The hurdle of the
last miscarriage still a daunting mountain between them. Thayde wasn't
sure how to fix the issue, but decided he would continue doing as he'd
done the past few months. Loving her as much as she would allow.
