Cinale

Cinale

"So what do you think, hon?" Cinale asked softly with a smile, turning her face up to his as he moved to sit beside her on the grassy bank. "I can see our future children running around this place..."

Daigoro chuckled as he settled down next to her and reached over to entwine his fingers with hers. "This certainly is a pretty spot to start a family," he agreed as he looked out across the fields stretching out before them, off towards the sun that was starting to dip below the distant hills. The clouds were beginning to turn a pinkish hue.

Shifting closer, she rested her head against his broad shoulder, watching the sunlight play on the rushing water, the ripples flickering like sparks of a flame. **So different from Amethyst Cliff...** But she didn't say that. She didn't want to bring up cares that he'd rather forget about right now. "Mmm... I can just see them...scampering about, causing havoc in _my_ kitchens...."

"Or in my brewery. Now that we're here, I'm going to really push for an expanded list of brews. It would be a shame to let all this good hops go to waste." He leaned down to rest his cheek on her head. "I could see us having family picnics our here when the weather is good."

Grinning, she rubbed her cheek against him. "You really are a romantic, my love."

The brewer snorted, but smiled despite himself. "I just said it would be nice to have a picnic from time to time."

She tilted her head so she could look at him. "That's not _all_ you said," she chuckled, teasingly brushing her nose lightly against his. "There's nothing wrong with being a romantic, you know."

"Hmph." His attempt at looking indignant failed somewhat.

"You see?" she laughed. "You can _pretend_ to be all manly with me, but I can see right through you, hon." Shards, she loved to tease him.

He frowned slightly. "Are you saying I'm _not_ manly?"

"Hon, I'm teasing you." She trailed her thumb briefly against the corner of his mouth. "Of course you are."

Daigoro turned to face her, but his attempted look of irritation quickly fell and he grinned. "So am I, beauty." He gave her thumb a quick kiss before taking her hand firmly in his. "I don't care if you think me romantic, or cute, or sweet, or manly, just as long as you love me."
**And as long as the lads don't find out...**

Grinning, she leaned up to give him a quick peck on his cheek before settling back down against him. "Did you see how huge the Gather Square was? I want to dance from one side to the other...on our wedding day."

"And so you shall," he nodded as he wrapped an arm around her and watched the great copper ball begin its decent over the blackened hills.
"And did you see the great runner track? We'll be able to have a grand time watching the races when we're resting our feet."

She nodded, smiling. "Are you going to teach me how to place a bet?"

"The most shrewd bets," Daigoro chuckled. "I will not be having my wife lose my well earned marks on just any runner."

She laughed, squeezing his hand. "Of course not."

He looked down at the small dainty digits that peeked out from between his thick stubby fingers. "Have you told anyone yet? About us, I mean?"

"Just Miryene," she murmured, watching the river. "And Cat knows...or suspects. And you? Have you told anyone? Fielton?"

"No, not yet," he sighed, turning his face back up to the fiery orange clouds suspended in a powder blue sky. "I meant to tell him before, but now... After losing Badia... I don't know when would be a good time. Or _if_ there would be a good time."

Nodding, her fingers caressed his. "I don't know, Daigoro..." She paused for a moment. "How...how is he doing?"

"I can't say," the Hallsecond replied softly. "Who knows what goes on in that man's head. He seems to be doing all right, but even if he wasn't I think he would rather take a trip /between/ than show anyone how he truly feels."

Cinale closed her eyes. "The more he holds everything in, the worse it'll be when he realizes that he just...can't, anymore."

"Perhaps," Daigoro nodded. "But who knows what happens behind closed doors."

Her hold tightened slightly on him at those words. They just made it all too painfully clear how lucky she was to have Daigoro here with her. She'd always stopped herself from thinking about the "what ifs" and "what might have beens" but now she couldn't deny them, or her feelings.

Daigoro also could feel the slight twinge of fear he sometimes felt when he thought just how he would have been able to hold himself together had Cinale been one of those bodies he had dug through the rubble to uncover. He released her fingers to wrapped his arm around her, pulling her tight against him, thankful that he will never know what might have been.
