It was hard to leave Respellath after she'd settled. Sanvi could have been content to sit and watch her dragon-- HER dragon!-- sleep, but there was a party to go to. _Her_ party. Instead she staggered from Respellath's side and collapsed next to Halia and Arimith. "You did it!"

Halia had been doing just that -- watching her sleeping dragon -- when Sanvi joined her. In the chaos of the feeding, the healer patching her scrapes up, and then the settling of the young dragonets, they hadn't been able to do much more than wave at each other, but now Halia grabbed her friend into a tight hug. "It finally happened!" Her voice broke a little with emotion, but she was smiling. "She's amazing-- and you did it too! We're going to be weyrlings together! Dragonriders!"

"I know! I'm so happy for you, Halia. You deserve this." She hugged her friend back tight. "I'm so glad we're doing this together."

"Me too," Halia agreed fervently. She soaked in the reality of it all for a long moment before finally pulling back, her hands on Sanvi's shoulders. "But what in the _world_ was happening during the feeding?! I saw Zorenh and Merhaskel get into it over food for their dragons, but what was the tussel you were involved in?"

"Oof." Sanvi made a face. "That was Nosarre and Zaphere. They clearly had some sort of problem with each other already, but then Zaphere congratulated Nosarre on Impressing a gold, and Nosarre punched her in the face. I really didn't expect a wet dishrag like her to actually _hit_ someone."

“She punched her? Shells, I’m almost impressed. Stupid thing to do, but all this time I thought Nosarre was just talk. I didn’t think she’d really use her fists.” Pausing, Halia glanced at their greens, still sleeping deeply, before continuing in a lower voice, "She’s one of the girls who only came to stand because of the gold egg. Guess she's taking it hard."

"Yeah." But you had to know that there was a chance you'd Impress every time you stepped onto the Sands. Her head swam in momentary panic. _She_ wasn't supposed to Impress at all, so in some ways she was as dumb as Nosarre. "But there's probably a few other people who are taking it hard, too. She's not special. I wonder if Nosarre or Zaphere will go to the celebration feast?"

"I overheard that the boys are getting barred from the feast for fighting, so it'll probably be the same for them," Halia dropped her voice to more of a whisper, in case the other girls were nearby. "I'll be interested to see how they are with each other at the morning feeding... Nosarre seems the type to hold a grudge. Mer- M'rhas too. This is going to be an interesting few months."

"Oh Farnath..." Sanvi slumped against Halia's side. "I still can't believe this happened... I feel like I'll wake up tomorrow and this will all be some sort of dream."

"I know what you mean. I can hardly believe it myself, but then, when I concentrate, I can feel her in there, in my mind and it's not like anything-- I can't make _that_ up, you know?" Halia smiled mistily and glanced fondly over at the slumbering green. "Honestly, what I really wanted this whole time was the lifestyle, the freedom... but this bond is pretty incredible. She really loves me, you know? She sees the best parts of me."

Sanvi's gaze drifted to Halia's new lifemate, who didn't seem quite as perfect as her own. "What's her name?" "Arimith," Halia said softly, her smile widening as she said the name. "Isn't it lovely? What about your girl?"

"Respellath." She reached out with her mind-- something she didn't even know was possible just a few candlemarks before-- and found someone reaching back. Respellath was deeply asleep, but even then she could feel the love pouring through that fragile bond.

"Respellath, that’s beautiful." Not as beautiful as Arimith, but what could be? Halia's gaze lingered on their sleeping greens for a moment longer before she shook her head slightly, as if shaking herself out of a dream. "I could sit here forever, but it'd be a shame to miss the whole party. It’s _our_ night, after all."

"And we have new dresses." Sanvi grinned.

"Right." Halia grinned a sly grin of her own. It hadn't been easy to finagle those beautiful dresses from the Cove caverns, but together they had managed it. "Let's go make an entrance!"
