Description: Galgaith compels her young clutchmates to try their wings before they’re cleared to fly
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 5, day 16 of Turn 12
}:I’m flying!:{ Respellath hollered as she ran toward the edge. At the critical moment she spread her wingsâ€" and hesitated. Momentum kept her going forward and suddenly there was nothing beneath her feet.
A heartbeat later there was a mighty crash as Respellath landed in a heap at the bottom of the cliff. She chirped unhappily as she stepped on her own wings trying to stand and look at the sky at the same timeâ€" Galgaith was up there somewhere and she should be too! }:Owww…:{
Galgaith was indeed up there, for a moment. The instinct was there, and practically all the requisite strength, but her technique wasn’t quite right. Soon she strained for height, unable to quite find the lift to keep climbing. The flight quickly turned into a precipitous drop. She instinctively managed to slow it, throwing out her wings to catch herself into a glide. It isn’t graceful. The ground surged up to meet her and she ploughed roughly into the dirt below the cliff. Not ideal, but not the worst. She puffed out her chest proudly and turned back to see--
--flailing beige limbs as Norrianth tried to slow down, but his bulk couldn't defy gravity and his clumsily huge wings couldn't stop his speed as his descent grew increasingly closer to a crash.
}:Pivot!:{ Galgaith screeched, as his shadow fell over her-- but it was all happening too fast…
Feet first and awkwardly trying to scramble away, Norrianth crashed inelegantly atop of Galgaith.
Roeth bugled in alarm as he watched Norrianth land on Galgaith. }: Oh no! :{ He tipped his wings to turn, intending to make sure his brethren were okay, but turning was harder than it looked and oh no, oh no, how did he stop?! How did he stop?!
Kiziolth didn't expect Roeth to turn. She cried out in alarm as he veered towards her. She beat her wings so hard that pain radiated from finger joint to haunch. The effort meant nothing, in the end- the brown was too fast and too big for her to avoid, and the two careened into the dirt together.
Paskith was one of the next to leap, taking a little bit of a running start and jumping, flaring his wings and flapping hard. He _soared_… but it was only for a moment, before he dropped rapidly toward the ground, and he was forced to come to a galloping stop.
Zollarth didn’t drop like a rock so much as a suspiciously-weighted leaf, flailing this way and that on his descent as he caught air, immediately forgot what to do to actually _use_ it, and then lost control again. He managed to slow himself just enough to keep from the worst possible landing, but still crashed chest-first into the ground, his neck and face plowing into the dirt right after, and then the rest of his body in an undignified heap.
He wasn’t really hurt beyond an ache in his neck and, likely, some bruising that would develop later, but he immediately began to cry in a soft, pathetic whine.
