Orysteth, still standing on the ledge and looking down over it at the pile of crashed siblings below him, blinked. }:Goodbye,:{ he said belatedly. After all, they hadn’t really given him a chance before the first started leaping.

}: That was not quite the adventure that I thought we were going on, :{ Saoirth remarked to the dragonets that had remained behind.

}:I know.:{ Her brother said quietly. Considering their stream of clutchmates plopping, gliding, thrashing, and tumbling into heaps on the ground, Alzaryth was amazed his instincts to follow and soar with them in the endless sky had actually almost won this time. This was exactly the sort of thing M’rhas would jump into head-first" so maybe he ought to wait not just for him, but someone, anyone older. }:I hope they're okay.:{

Kyllavath remained rooted on the ledge. He had _almost_ jumped. _Almost_. But not quite. His wings were still flared, as if he would jump, but his hindquarters remained rooted to the cliff. Seeing the pile of his siblings, the brown dragonet quickly stowed his wings against his spine. }:They’re making a lot of noise. Someone is bound to notice.:{ He looked to Saorith and Alzaryth. }:We should get back.:{ He did _not_ want to face Domorth, Fianwyth, or Arinoth when they found out.

Suddenly, a great shadow blocked out the warmth of the sun above them briefly, and then heavy feet landed at the bottom of the cliff beside the weyrlings.

}:Hatchlings!:{ Domorth said -- not shouting, but his brassy mindvoice was always rather loud anyway. They weren’t hatchlings anymore, really, so the usage was vaguely patronizing. }:That was phenomenally brave, and terribly stupid! I am impressed and ashamed. Who is hurt?:{

Kiziolth scampered quickly underfoot of the big bronze, whimpering quietly. Not because she got caught, nor because of the throbbing pain emanating from her wing joints, but because now her rider was aware of what they'd done and she was _furious_.

Kyallavath stood, looking like a canine when their sibling is guilty of chewing a hole in their master’s sock. His posture and expression clearly said _I didn’t do anything_. _They did it_.

Alzaryth hadn't flown, nor had he been injured, though you'd never tell by the way he scurried closer to Domorth, surveying his siblings with worry.

Respellath looked at Galgaith even as she crouched down a little lower, her battered wings and bruised body aching from her tumble.

Norrianth scrambled away from Galgaith, standing straight and puffing himself up to look big and intimidating, despite still being half Domorth's size. He wasn't scared of the bronze, not when he was grown enough to fly now! He spoke more in bold tones of pride than real words. }: We did it! :{ He declared.

Shaking herself off, Galgaith rose with a proud bugle. }:I flew!:{ she announced with clear pleasure and zero shame, before generously adding, }:_We_ flew!:{ Her front knees stung and her shoulder ached a bit where it’d taken the brunt of Norriath’s landing, but she had done it!

Zollarth continued making his soft little whining noise. }:Did you see? They made me come up here, and I didn’t want to, and they pushed me, and I fell, and it hurt…:{

}:I saw enough to know that you are not telling the truth, Zollarth,:{ Domorth replied, even as he gently gathered Kiziolth closer to him with one foreleg. }:Galgaith, Norrianth, you were beautiful until you weren’t, but you could have flown without injury to your clutchmates, had you only waited. Your riders will be upset that now they may have to wait longer to see you fly properly because you are hurt. Your ambition is impressive, but your lack of foresight rather spoils the victory. So many of you are in pain! Come, we will need an entire infirmary for this.:{

When Adamanth landed, he was aghast. What had all of these done so poorly that they had embarrassed Galgaith so with their poor landing? Still. He had an obligation to them. There would be those who were scored by Thread even when they had performed as well as was possible.

But then he realized, there was already a teacher responding.

}:We did well,:{ he insisted to Domorth. }:We did! You should be proud of all of us. _All_ of us.:{ He had to believe it. Because if pride was not warranted for all of them, then Galgaith was wrong for leading them to fly. And that was simply impossible.

}:I am proud that none of you died!:{ Domorth allowed sincerely. }:That is… an accomplishment. But come. Your clutchmates are hurt.:{

He turned to lead them away, clearly no longer willing to argue.

}:I only wanted to fly, and surely all of us together is far better than one or two alone.:{ Paskith said, though he ducked his head at Domorth‘s scolding. Head down, he shuffled after the rest.
