J'nic felt... wet. He was in bed, but not his own bed. And, why was he wet? It took a few moments to remember. Raileth had risen. And, she
had chosen quite the day to do so; the same sevenday the junior weyrlings went /between/ for the first time and became senior weyrlings.
He turned his thoughts to wondering who had caught her. Since joining the Weyrlingstaff, his only wish after every flight was to not see someone he had trained. Luckily, Raileth was almost always caught by dragons with Turns of experience, so that should not be a real concern for some time.
Rain. That's why he was wet. It had been raining. J'nic finally opened his eyes and turned to see who was next to him. He met a pair of light blue eyes and a face that looked familiar, but he was not sure if he had ever spoken to the... brownrider? Bronzerider?
"Hi there," he said with a small smile. "I don't know if we've met. I'm J'nic."
G'weld stirred, blinking awake with a yawn, and the pleasant ache in his body, the way Tarsenuth was radiating smug pride-- oh! Ohh....
"... Hi." He told J'nic. "I'm G'weld. Tarsenuth is the bronze out there probably posing with your green." He offered another friendly grin. "... Nice to meet you. Even if it's a bit cliche."
J'nic gave a little laugh. "It is. This would be a great start to one of those Weyr romances the Printer Hall distributes... Although, they would turn me into a woman, and I wouldn't have a weyrmate."
The greenrider looked around for his clothes, spotting what seemed to be most of them near the door. "Congratulations to your bronze. From what I remember, a blue almost caught Raileth, but she managed to swerve away."
G'weld grinned, lazy but pleased, and gives J'nic a nod. "Tarsenuth says she flew swiftly and well." He hums. "He was just sneakier." He chuckles. "As for the rest-- well. I say it doesn't matter what you are, if you're a dragonrider. And I've a weyrmate too, but that's yet to stop Tarsenuth."
A shrug, too studied to be casual. "It's still an interesting way to perhaps meet a new friend?"
True," J'nic agreed as he slipped on his pants, then sat down, socks in hand. "Is your weyrmate also a dragonrider?"
G'weld, now that there was more room, stretched luxuriously. "He is." He confirmed. "Is yours? Or did I misunderstand?" He added lightly.
"No, he's a crafter; a technician. That's part of why we came here. It was pretty exciting for him to be here almost from the start to help with construction, and the hydro plant still needs daily maintenance."
He did not fully understand what Sellek did, but enjoyed seeing his weyrmate find so much joy in his craft. "Is there any particular reason the two of you transferred here?"
"Honestly, I needed a change of scenery." G'weld admitted. "That, and I just... Well. I was tired of feeling stagnant. When I heard Barrier Lake was going to become a full Weyr, or on track to, Tars and I came here. And R'sh-- he goes by Raush, mostly-- came with us. He's a Healer." He added. "Healers're always important."
J'nic nodded in understanding as he listened, buttoning his shirt. Hearing Raush's craft, he perked up. "I'm a healer too. Mindhealer though, so we might not cross paths at all. And the weyrlings keep me
plenty busy."
G'weld laughed. "I know all about weyrlings being handfuls. I was one." He commented, and finally sat up, peered around for his shirt. "I can see if Raush knows you." He added. "Always good to have new
friends."
"Agreed. Maybe we can go on a double date some time. There's a nice tavern near here." They had all lived in Weyrs for long enough that it shouldn't be awkward.
"I think we'd both like that. Have Raileth reach out to Tarsenuth soon, or my lad can reach out once I've time to talk to Raush." G'weld responded, amiable, and moved to start getting dressed the rest of the way himself.
