Sybana

Sybana

Galgaith didn’t see the need to apologize, not at first. It wasn’t _her_ fault the others had been too weak or scared or stupid and gotten hurt, but Sybana spent a quarter candlemark gently reasoning with her until, shortly before lights out, Galgaith was ready to admit she was at least sorry about how things had gone. It helped that she knew, privately, Sybana was very proud of her.

Sybana took her around the girls side of the barracks first and was relieved when those apologies went relatively smoothly. That just left the boys. “You just have to apologize for getting them hurt,” Sybana reminded the gold as she held open the barracks door that divided the two genders. “You don’t have to keep telling everyone you’re glad they aren’t dead.”

}:But I am glad!:{ said Galgaith simply, tromping through to the boy’s side. }:I’m not sorry that we flew, but I am sorry they’re hurt-- and I’m _very_ glad they’re not dead.:{

It was hard to argue that.

"Ope! Pardon me." Z'renh paused just in time to avoid running into Galgaith as he rounded the corner. He hated to think what claws like hers might do to him if she trod on him inadvertently.

"I, uh... Sorry about that. Everything all right?"

"Everything's fine," said Sybana from behind Galgaith's bulk. "We were just popping over so Galgi can apologize to everyone that got injured yesterday. Is Adamanth with you? Was he hurt?"

**Galgaith will see you now.** That was a surefire way to get Adamanth's attention. Moments later, he had joined them. Bulkily.

}:I am unharmed, of course! But it is I who should apologize to you. I had the rear. I could see those who followed behind you. I should have been fast enough to help those who were struggling ahead of me, but I lingered too long on the heights waiting for those who were hesitant. It is clearly my fault they were hurt, not yours.:{

"He's fine," said Z'renh.

Galgaith hummed thoughtfully before shaking her head. }:Hm, no. I don't think you could have helped them. That was their fault for not being better. You could not have fixed them in the air. I don't even see how the old dragons could fix them--:{

"_Galgaith._" Following only half a conversation had its difficulties, but Sybana could hear enough to know that Galgaith was going off script again. She pushed the memory of their earlier talk to the forefront of her mind. **Rember what we talked about?**

The gold huffed a draconic sigh and shuffled her wings. }:It was my fault. "Good leaders can't just lead at the front." They must look out for the weak and stupid too. I did not think to do that, so I must apologize. Good leaders do that too. So others trust them.:{ She twisted her head to look back at Sybana who nodded approvingly.

}:Ah, yes. The weak and stupid shall always be with us,:{ said Adamanth. }:It is truly magnanimous of you to offer your apologies to them when it was they who failed you.:{ He bowed his head to her.

}:Yes,:{ agreed Galgaith after checking the word with her lifemate. }:I _am_ very magnanimous. You are good to notice.:{

"Your bronze is very courteous, isn't he?" Sybana observed. "I don't know exactly what he said to her, but she's very pleased."

"Courteous... depends on who he's talking to," said Z'renh. "But I'm glad Galgaith is happy with him." Z'renh was not eager to find out how Adamanth would respond to her being unhappy with him.

Sybana was blissfully oblivious to most of Z'renh's struggles. Adamanth was well behaved when Galgaith was concerned. To Sybana, he would always be the bronze that stepped graciously aside when Galgaith went for his food as she had the first day they hatched. "Well," she said. "I'm glad he isn't hurt. Galgi. We should move on. There are others to see before Lights Out."

}:Good night, Adamanth,:{ Galgaith said grandly. }:I'm glad you're not dead.:{
