Description: Galgaith and Kiziolth investigate the strange encampment that appeared nearby.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 5, day 8 of Turn 12
The day had just begun at the weyr. Breakfast service was over and the weyrling riders were in the classroom learning about Threadfall patterns and weather systems.
Galgaith lurked in the entryway of the barracks, one of the few dragonets not sleeping off their morning meal. Her gleaming bulk filled over half the barn-style entrance, the weak sunlight illuminating her hide a rich, molten gold-- but she wasn’t sunbathing on this cloudy day. She was watching.
Beyond the curve of the weyrbowl, a cluster of tents had risen like mushrooms after the rain. They had not been there Before. They were Recent. People moved slowly between them, dark shapes bundled in thick layers of clothing.
Galgaith did not like the way Sybana felt when she looked at them.
She tasted her rider’s unease--a turbulent, sharp-edged thing--tinged with fear and distrust. Over and over, the word ‘Holdless’ echoed through her thoughts, weighty and dark, as if it meant something worse than just… people.
They hadn’t seemed dangerous to Galgaith the other night in the rain, but she hadn’t been allowed close. Maybe she had missed something?
Curiosity gnawed at Kiziolth too, though she tried to project an aura of calm in case Nosarre reached out for her. Her rider didn't feel fear, really, but it was the same distaste as she felt when Kiziolth tripped and fell in the mud the day before. The structures were new and a little scary for the green, especially the way the fabric rippled in the wind. She did not know what holdless were, and she didn't want to bother Nosarre with silly questions. (All questions were silly).
}: What are you thinking? :{ She asked Galgaith.
}: The Holdless… My Sybana thinks they’re bad, :{ said the gold, tail lashing as she eyed the offending creatures. }: What does your person think? :{
Kiziolth paused. Nosarre did not tell her much, but she tried to listen. }: She doesn't like them. They're dirty and she thinks her things will get taken because the doors are unlocked. :{ She eyed the big doors, wondering quietly how one did lock them. Maybe they couldn't, because they had to waddle out to poop sometimes.
Galgaith rumbled lowly, not loud, but resonant--more felt than heard. }: Then they are upsetting _both_ our people, :{ she said with dark disapproval. She shifted her weight onto her haunches, muscles bunching beneath golden hide. }: We must go look. We are big. We are strong. They cannot hurt or take _us_. We will find out if it’s safe or not for my Sybana. Come! :{
With that Galgaith left the shadows of the barracks and began stalking her way straight across the bowl. There was no cover to speak of and at two-and-a-half months old the gold was twice the length of a large runner, but she tucked her wings close and did her best.
}: We _are_ strong! :{ Kiziolth agreed as if she hadn't really thought about it, but wholeheartedly agreed. She watched Galgaith's sneaky hop towards the tents before taking off after her, her big feet thumping roughly on the muddy ground until she caught up. She was a small green, at this point roughly pony-sized, but Galgaith was clever and sneaky and if she said they could do it, they surely could.
