A Toe-Curling Read

Writers: Corrin, Yvonne
Date Posted: 19th April 2025

Characters: Sanvi, Halia
Description: Halia and Sanvi hatch a plan.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 5, day 17 of Turn 12
Notes: Mentioned: Sybana, A'ris, Qelhelias

No sooner had Sybana and Galgaith left, than Sanvi had another visitor. This one didn’t bother to knock.

Halia let herself in, flopping carelessly across the end of her friend’s cot like she’d been summoned. “Alright,” she said, propping herself up on one elbow and giving Sanvi a look that was equal parts nosy and amused. “What was _that_ about? I was coming back from the latrines and I saw Sybana and that lump of a gold squeezing out of here. What’s going on? She need help with homework or something?”

"She wanted to apologize for Galgaith leading Res off a cliff. It was actually pretty nice of her." Sanvi wrinkled her nose at Halia. "How were the latrines, stinker?"

"Oh, they were _ever so_ fun, and sparkling clean now thanks to me and A'ris. You're in for a treat next rotation when it's your turn for latrine duty." Halia paused and sniffed her hands. "I swear we washed up good after."

"But enough of that," she continued, waving a (clean) hand impatiently. "I want to hear the gossip. She really came over to apologize? Color me surprised. I didn't think she was the type." Nevermind Halia hardly knew the goldrider, for all they were in class together.

Sanvi shrugged. "Me either. She even _bought_ me something. Us," she said, tossing a jar of the salve Sybana had left her to Halia. "She said it was for dragons but I bet that it would work for me too next time I have a sore back."

Halia caught the jar and turned it over in her hands with mild curiosity, before cracking the lid open for a cautious sniff. “Smells like herbs and oil. Probably better than using numbweed all the time, I guess. Pretty nice gift,” she said, glancing up with an arched brow.

}:I like sharing!:{ Respelleth said to Sanvi as she nudged Halia's foot with her snout. }:Is Arimith coming over too? I like visitors.:{

Laughing, Halia cocked her head at the animated green in her wallow. “Oh, are you wanting _your_ friend too? I’ll call her if she isn’t asleep--”

It took the barest second of thought and then there was an excited scrabbling of talons out in the hall and Halia got up to let Arimith in.

The sage green dragonet bustled in, fluttering her wings happily. }: Oh, you went _visiting_! I was wondering why you were still gone! I thought you were with Kyllavath’s. Oh, hello, hello! :{ Arimith hopped up onto Respellath’s couch, affectionately headbutting her clutchmate’s shoulder.

Respelleth moved over but gave a little squeak as her shoulder was jostled. }:You should stay!:{

Sanvi, meanwhile, rolled her eyes affectionately as the two green dragonets squished into a corner of the couch together. Even together they didn't take up as much space as Galgaith did. "Our little goldie was interested in this stupid book I found though," she said, gesturing to the novel she'd discarded. "Some holder romance. So I told her that I'd get her something _real_ good. Want to help me find the most horrifically explicit book in the Weyr for her?"

Halia sat bolt upright, eyes gleaming with sudden interest. “Do I?” Her grin was positively wicked. “Sanvi, why didn’t you lead with that? That’s important information!”

Sanvi shrugged. "You can't _lead_ with the best bit of gossip!"

Reaching over she swapped the jar of salve for the discarded book and flipped briskly through it. "Yeah, we can do waaay better than this. This is all mushy sighs and longing glances. We need to find something that'll knock her little holder socks off."

"I'm thinking an orgy. Like ten men and one woman!"

Halia let out a delighted bark of laughter. “Can you _imagine_ her face? She’ll drop it in shock two pages in!”

"That's the goal!" Sanvi grinned like the feline that had caught the fish.

“Alright, where are we going to find this _filthy_ book?” Halia asked, propping herself up on the bed with her elbows and leaning in conspiratorially. “Qelhelias just got assigned back to the weyr, I bet I can get him to let us look at any of the confiscated books the Harpers have nabbed. No knowing what those’ll be though… Do you know anyone who might have a private collection?” She waggled her eyebrows. “Or… should we try to finagle a ride out to the Printer Hall? I bet _they_ have _everything_.”

"I wish we could go to the Printer Hall, but..." Sanvi's gaze drifted to where the two greens lay entangled. "I think we're stuck here until we can go /between/. I think Qelhelias is our best bet."

"Right. Qelhelias it is then!"
