Betting for Bronze

Writers: Eimi, Emma
Date Posted: 11th June 2006

Characters: R'sedel, P'veas, X'lol
Description: R'sdel and P'veas make a bet over a bronzerider...
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 18 of Turn 3

"Oooooo, he's a fine one," R'sedel grinned, nudging the greenrider beside him as a large bearded brownrider passed by. "I like a man with a bit of hair on his face."

"Perhaps, but he's much nicer," P'veas pointed to a tall, yet slender bluerider.

"I like a bit more meat on my men's bones," the other greenrider shrugged. "Although, he does have nice blue eyes."

"That's not all that's nice. He's a weaver by craft, good with his hands."

"Oh really?" R'sedel asked, suddenly very interested. "Do tell."

"Yes, he learnt a trick or two about removing clothing, for those moments when it gets in the way if you know what I mean."

"Oooo, but I do," his friend chuckled. "But does he have as many tricks when the clothes are _off_?"

"Oh yes, and the view is good when those clothes are off."

"Eh, he's still too skinny for me," R'sedel said scrunching up his nose.
"I like a guy at _least_ as big as me."

"Maybe I should introduce you to E'vik then?"

"E'vik?" He was still learning people's names, and that one didn't sound familiar.

"Blue Yoreanth's rider. Nice guy, but twice my size."

"Hmmmm.... Tell me more."

"Dark curly hair, nice smile."

"Hmmmm... Bluerider, you say?" R'sedel grinned. "I shall have to take your advice then. Oooo, look at that man. The bald one with the large chest muscles."

"Mmmm...." P'veas cast an admiring glance over the man. "But he's one to just look at I'm afraid. X'lol is a bronzerider, and has a rather jealous weyrmate."

"That doesn't mean we can't look," R'sedel shrugged with a saucy smile.
"Or flirt a little."

"You can try. Might be interesting to watch."

"Oh, I flirt with bronzerider's all the time. They just chuckle and think its funny." After all, they are _bronze_ for a reason, as frustrating as that was. "But hey, I still get close enough to truly appreciate them, and if I'm lucky Eniidith might chose one them for me."

"A quarter mark says he tells you to go away."

"You're on," R'sedel chuckled. "How long shall I talk to him?"

"A quarter candlemark to go with the quarter mark."

"All right then. A quarter candlemark it is." With a triumphant smile he walked off in the bronzerider's direction.

An eyebrow raised at the greenrider's approach. "Yes," he said.

"I'm sorry, I was just wondering, are you in my wing?" R'sedel asked curiously.

"Torrent Wing?"

"Yes! Yes, that's right. I knew I couldn't mistake that physic!"
R'sedel grinned. "You're a bronzerider?"

"That's right, and you must be a greenrider."

"The knots give it away, don't they," he shrugged. "Among other things, I'm sure."

"And what might those things be?"

"Well, I tend to flirt with bronzeriders for one, even though I know there's no hope for me."

"Just what might make you think that way?"

R'sedel chuckled. "Because I have yet to find a bronzerider who is open to a bluerider mentality. Though if you want to tell me you'd be the first, I certainly wouldn't mind."

"I'm sorry my friend, but you are right. I don't think that way outside of a flight. But your conversation is interesting."

"Precisely," R'sedel nodded, undaunted. "I can get away with flirting with bronzeriders because you know its not gonna happen, and _I_ know its not gonna happen, so why take it so seriously? Just enjoy it for the humor and witty conversation it is."

"Just so long as conversation is where it stops my friend. There are some who would not be amenable to that type of conversation."

"Oh dear, bronzerider, are you afraid of me?" And here bronzeriders were supposed to be so brave. "I promise, I won't ravage you here on the beach, much as I would like to. You're safe with me."

"How safe?"

"Your bronzerider reputation is _perfectly_ safe with me."

X'lol through back his head and laughed.

"See, I knew you would lighten up a bit," the greenrider grinned.
"There's absolutely nothing wrong with being friends."

"Nothing at all."

R'sedel couldn't believe he was actually going to earn a quarter-mark for oogling a bronzerider for a quarter-candlemark. Oh P'veas. What a fool to doubt greenrider R'sedel!

"Now you wouldn't be trying to influence that lovely green of yours at all, would you?"

"Trust me, her taste in dragons and my taste in men seem to run contrary," the greenrider sighed dramatically. "But even if I was, don't think of it as me trying to give myself a chance. Think of it as me trying to give your bronze a chance."

"A chance for what?" teased the bronzerider, he hadn't missed the other greenrider hanging about.

"Have you _seen_ my green? She's an even a bigger flirt than _I_ am,"
he chuckled. "And I bet she's a big green to go with it."

"Rather average, I'd say," R'sedel shrugged. "But absolutely gorgeous in my humble opinion."

"Like us all, you seem rather biased."

"Yes, I suppose we all are." It had to have been a quarter-candlemark by _now_. "Well, I should probably get back to my friend, but I just wanted to be friendly and introduce myself."

"And that you have greenrider."

"I'm R'sedel, rider of green Eniidith, by the way," he added as almost an after thought.

"X'lol, Torvekith's rider."

"I'll be seeing you, X'lol," R'sedel smiled. The smile turned into a grin as he walked back towards his greenrider friend. **Someone owes me a quarter-mark!**

"Seems I was wrong then," said P'veas. "How do you want me to pay up?"

"Why don't we discuss that over dinner," R'sedel asked innocently. "In _your_ weyr?"
