Nosarre

The wind tugged at Nosarre's shoulders as Kizolth surged higher, her green wings slicing through the thermals. She rode the lift easily now, stronger and surer than she'd been even a sevenday ago, her hide gleaming like polished jade. Below them, the Weyr fell away into a blanket of white snow and dots of leafless trees. Ugh. Nosarre didn't think she'd ever get used to the snow and the cold.

The wind was bitter, too, and a gust slammed broadside against Kiziolth's shoulder. Kiziolth faltered a wingbeat; not enough to break the flight, but enough to jolt Nosarre and make her curse under her breath. Kiziolth banked hard, over-correcting.

**Tighter turn,** she instructed, her mindvoice clipped. **Don't let the wind shove you like that.**

}: Sorry, sorry! :{ Kiziolth answered.

Zollarth saw his opportunity at the same instant that Zaphare did, and there was no need for words -- just a shared, wicked sense of mischief as the blue dove and then leveled out just above and behind Kiziolth, buzzing over the green and her rider far too close for comfort.

“Whoops!” Zaphare called, turning back to grin at Nosarre over her shoulder. Though the words may have been lost to the wind, and the expression too distant to parse, the intent was clear.

Nosarre's lips peeled back in a snarl even as she hunched reflexively, one arm bracing Kiziolth's neck as the blue's wingtip sliced the air above them.

"Watch it, you wherry-headed show off!" she shouted after Zaphare, though the wind likely snatched the words away. Kiziolth twitched beneath her, more startled than injured.

}: She said 'whoops'. :{ Kiziolth supplied in an attempt to be helpful, but mentally shied away at Nosarre's rough and immediate disagreement.

**Don't flinch.**

}: I didn't flinch! :{ The green protested, but her tone was tight with embarrassment. }: I just didn't expect- he was _right there_! :{

**He meant to be. Don't give him the satisfaction.** Nosarre adjusted her seat, crouching lower against the curve of Kiziolth's neckridge. The green steadied, her wingbeats leveling out again. Nosarre could feel the nervousness start to give way to her own irritation. **You going to let a blue outfly you?**

Kiziolth's eyes brightened, whirling yellow-orange. }: No! :{ With a tilt of her wings and a sharp pump of muscle, the green shot after them. She angled up beneath the bluepair, rising swift and sure as a striking fish. Her wings flared wide at just the right moment and whoompf- they shot upward, a jade blur beneath the unsuspecting blue. She flipped onto her side for an instant as she slid clean past and up the other side, righting herself so they were neck-and-neck.

"Whoops!" Nosarre called.

“Oh, it’s _on_!” Zaphare called, shaking her fist so that the meaning, at least, was clear even if the words were not. **Zollarth--**

}:I know! I won’t be outflown!:{ He gave a great pump of his wings, surging forward, swishing his tail dangerously close to Kiziolth’s face as he passed as if to slap, the challenge clear. }:Don’t be left behind, dear!:{

Kiziolth ducked instinctively as Zollarth's tail flicked past them, causing Nosarre's stomach to flip as they tumbled downward a few feet. Her irritation fanned Kiziolth's- or Kiziolth's fanned hers, who could say- and the green rumbled back. }: Why you- you- you butt-faced miscreant! :{

Nosarre might have snickered, if Kiziolth hadn't tucked her wings and twisted into a spin. She could almost hear the creak of the straps as they flipped upside down and came sailing up again at an angle, this time letting a wingtip catch the air just so as she unfurled them again, flicking a crisp little draft across Zollarth's flank as she passed.

}:The disrespect!:{ Zollarth gasped. He veered out of reach, but not before craning his neck to snap at the air by Kiziolth as she passed. He had no desire to actually bite her (well okay, not much of one), but he had to remind her that he had teeth.

“And so do I!” Zaphare called across the wind.

}: Oh goodness! :{ Kiziolth exclaimed, though she turned her head to scowl at Zollarth. She tilted just a little so the wind filled her 'sails and pushed her closer to Zollarth. He wasn't getting away from her that easily.

Nosarre waved at Zaphare.

Zollarth dropped suddenly, veering back over so that he was just beneath Kiziolth. Zaphare had the urge to reach up and touch the dragon’s belly, but they couldn’t really get close enough for _that_ -- or she wasn’t quite ready to get _that_ risky, anyway -- so she had Zollarth keep veering so that he’d come out again on the other side of her.

“Bitch!” she called to Nosarre, making a rude gesture, then grinned.

Kiziolth nearly balked at the blue beneath her, and Nosarre had the fleeting panic of what would happen if Kiziolth had fallen on top of Zollarth, but thankfully she righted herself before anything bad happened. Nosarre didn't dwell on it for long. The adrenaline rush made her giddy, and instead of being furious she laughed and made an uncharacteristically rude gesture back, involving two fingers and her tongue. She wasn't the one that started it, but by Faranth she would be the one that finished it.

Oh, she was going to tease, was she? Zaphare made V’s with the pointer and middle finger of both hands and jammed them together repeatedly then gave a questioning shrug so exaggerated that the meaning of “Well??” was hopefully clear.

}:What is this nonsense?:{ Zollarth demanded. }:I thought we were flying!:{

}: We are flying, and you are losing! :{ Kiziolth teased. She twisted to sharply bank dangerously close to Zollarth's side and dove downwards.
