S'yen

He wasn’t going to Alpine Wing and that sucked. Or whatever they were calling Cyan now. Were they still partying now as Alpine? Who freakin’ knew. He hadn’t been invited to them, that was for sure. And S’yen knew that there was no partying to be had in the Weyrleader’s Wing.

Summit was going to suck.

“At least you’ll get to be my eye candy,” S’yen remarked to A’ris as he sat down across from his now former classmate at the new Wing table.

“I’m happy to be of service,” the brownrider remarked good-naturedly. It was a relief that S’yen had gone to Summit as well. At least he knew one person.

A’ris had been shocked when his name had been called for Summit Wing. He had been prepared to go anywhere, but the _Weyrleader’s Wing_? He was also, admittedly, a little nervous. The rumors about Summit Wing weren’t the best considering some of the mistakes that had been occurring in previous Threadfalls.

“What do you think the Weyrleader will be like as a Wingleader?” he asked S’yen.

“Whershit,” S’yen immediately said. “Have you gotten a look at him? He’s uglier than a wherry with that forehead. And don’t think anyone’s forgotten about him making the wrong crossover call that one time that was the reason they had to dissolve Teal. He’s going to get us killed.”

A’ris sighed a little, his shoulders slumping. “Yeah, that was kind of the vibe I got as well. The morale in Summit seems pretty low.” Having been raised in a cothold, A’ris had no idea what sort of things made a Weyrleader “good” but he’d not heard a lot of positive things about the Weyrleader since being at Dragonsfall.

S’yen stabbed at his food like it had offended him personally. “Yeah, well, guess I’ll be making my own fun after my infirmary shifts. I’m not going to let some stuck-up bronzerider dull whatever remaining time I have. I’m going to party like it’s an Interval.”

His friend’s determination to have a good time made A’ris’s lips twitch with a smile. “Maybe you will completely change Summit’s reputation.”

The bluerider made a humming sound. “The bar’s pretty low on that. I bet a wet mop could change it too.” He chewed a piece of meat as he looked over at another table. “We can stick together at least,” S’yen said. “I mean, if you want. Not sure if you’ve got anything better to do.” He made it sound somewhere between rude and plaintive, like he was trying to decide if they were going to be friends or just that one time fuck buddy.

A’ris’ eyebrow arched a bit as he shot S’yen a sideways glance. “Of course we’re going to stick together. Who else would I talk to? And besides, I probably owe you for life for doing all of my reading and writing homework during Weyrlinghood. I can’t believe none of the Weyrlingmasters ever noticed.”

“I’m glad they didn’t. I didn’t want to have to explain that to them. I was sooo ready to be done with lessons,” S’yen complained. “Mostly the sex restrictions. Do you know how hard it is to explain morning wood to a baby dragon?!”

“No,” A’ris said with an amused shake of his head. Sex was one of the top two things S’yen talked about. “There are other things in life, you know. You should try reading a book sometime. I mean, I don't know from personal experience, but my sisters read all the time.”

S’yen shot him a look. “A book? Really? Why waste my time reading when I could be out _experiencing_ the world?” He stabbed at his food. “You don’t even _read_ so why would you suggest that?”

A’ris was glad to not be the poor murdered fingerroot on S’yen’s plate. “My sisters used to read a lot. They loved it so much they would sneak one of their books inside their apron so they could _pretend_ to be doing a chore, but actually reading a book instead.”

“I’d rather be getting a blowjob but to each their own I guess,” S’yen answered. “Okay, since you are coming up with ideas: what are _you_ going to do with your free time now?”

His answer should have been ‘learning to read and write’ and maybe he would, but based on the direction of their conversation so far, he knew S’yen wouldn’t be impressed. “Maybe take on some extra transport jobs. It would be nice to have the extra marks. Traveling would be nice. I’ve only ever seen the patch of dirt I was raised on and Dragonsfall.”

S’yen propped his chin on his hand. “That’s actually not a bad idea,” he agreed. “Maybe I should take that up. You know, Zariah does that book dragon thing for Printer Hall. You just…deliver books to people.”

“That doesn’t sound too difficult, and I bet you get to see a lot of neat places.”

The bluerider nodded. “Could find some cute boys that way too. Maybe learn how to be a Searchrider or some shit.”

“Oh, Searchriding, now there’s an idea.” It was a great way to both see new places and meet a lot of people. Although, A’ris got the feeling that the only part of Searching S’yen was interested in, was discovering the inside of another man’s pants.
