Traitorous boy!
A'len's mind was fury seeking an outlet. How could I'serin, his own _son_, betray him and force him to transfer out?! Ungrateful child! After all A'len had done for him! After all of the advice, all of the instruction, all of the connections -- he was just going to be cast out, start over somewhere like a mere greenrider! And what rankled A'len the most was that there was no way he could get the decision overturned in time. If he only had _time_!
He was not going to talk to his weyrmate Isoria about it. Not yet. No. He still had time to break the news to her. He still had time to figure out a way to stop this! An intervention through one of the Wingleaders? Plead Tsaera for a delay? On what grounds could he claim? Infuriating! He needed a way to circumvent what I'serin was trying to do!
}: A new start will be good, :{ Tirenth remarked. }: I do not like the way your mind has felt lately and- :{
"I didn't ask you!" A'len snarled as he stalked his way towards the fresh air and heights of the Star Stones. He needed time to think! The wineskin in his hand wouldn't help with that but it certainly would dull the outrage he felt. Maybe he would find an answer in it.
Little did he know that he was being hunted.
"Ungrateful child," A'len muttered darkly as he took the steps. There had to be a way for him to stop this. He took a long pull from the wineskin. Had to be something he could do. Could he transfer there and then request a transfer back? Argue his case with the new Weyrleader? There had to be an element of unfairness or pity that he could use _somewhere_.
A'len glared at the dark clouds blanketing the night sky. Even the weather this season had been colder than usual. Or maybe he was misremembering. It didn't matter. His boots crunched across icy snow as he walked, the wine in his stomach warming him. The view up here had always given him clarity, a broad-picture reminder of his goals and how to accomplish them. A'len took another pull of his wine as his gaze swept the Weyr.
He was oblivious to the shadow that followed in his exact footsteps to minimize the crunching sound of snow. Had A'len been aware that he was not alone, his hubris would have just added to his sense of invincibility, and he would have laughed at the figure's intent. But since he was oblivious, when hands roughly grabbed his shoulders to spin him around, he was thrown off balance.
"_You!_" the murderous shadow shouted. Did A'len know that voice? "This is for my brother, you tunnelsnake!"
Brother? What brother?
And then, he was _pushed_. Over the nearby edge. Towards the icy rocks below.
A'len was absently aware of Tirenth's roar as the slick ice carried him over the edge. Of how everything seemed to be moving so very slowly, inevitably, unstoppable, as he fell, fury and pain and hatred filling his form, as if he could sprout wings from his wrath alone.
He hit the first rock with a bone-breaking thud that knocked the breath from him.
He hit the second rock with a tearing slide that ripped his skin like dragon claws.
He hit the third rock with the embrace of oblivion.
Tirenth let out a wretched scream of despair and disappeared /between/.
