H'run spent the afternoon freezing as he aired out his weyr, lighting scented candles and tidying his space to welcome guests. Shelves were reorganized to make room for the knickknacks he'd accumulated at Dolphin Cove: a seashell, a small vase, the portrait that Esiah had painted in blues of himself and Calcifeth at the beach. The bluerider ran his fingers over the canvas and felt the ghostly touch of topical sun against his chilled skin.

He'd woken up disoriented and at the wrong time, but digging through his overstuffed closet for something warm enough to wear was distracting enough to whittle most of the day away. Thankfully the expectaiton for participation in drills that day had been minimal. Tidying took longer than expected but soon enough -- and to his relief -- there was a knock at his door. Perhaps people still liked him enough to accept his invitation.

As soon as H'run opened the door, K'mai pulled him into a hug. "H'run! Welcome back!"

H'run felt a pang. K'mai's arms were warm and welcoming around him, and he closed his eyes and breathed deeply. He was over K'mai. He didn't care anymore. He _didn't_.

"The best of us returns!" a voice over K'mai's shoulder sang. It was M'yvak, who was bearing a 'welcome home' bottle of wine in each hand.

Behind My'vak, a line was forming of other party-goers, including the Weyrwoman herself.

Soon after, A'drios poked his head in and held up two green squash.

"We makin' stew?" he asked.

"Shards, stew? What has _happened_ since I've been gone?" H'run said with a laugh. He held his hand out to Saibra and pulled her into a hug as well. "What a pleasure, Weyrwoman. Welcome to my humble weyr. It's a bit _small_, don't you think?"

Saibra smiled and dropped a kiss to the bluerider’s cheek. “If you’re angling for a bigger weyr… you’re talking to the right person,” she winked. “I look forward to hearing about your exploits while you were at Dolphin Cove.” She squeezed his arm before passing him along to the next guest. She had a basket on her arm brimming with tiny sandwiches which she took over to the table and began setting out.

M’yvak stood beside A’drios, shaking his head. “You brought _squash_ to a party?”

"What, you don't like squash?" A'drios feigned shock.

"Nobody does, darling. Especially ones that look so inappropriate." H'run plucked the squash from A'drios' hands and handed them to M'yvak. "Do something with these, will you? Ah-- Harki, for Faranth's sakes what are you _wearing_?!"

The greenrider looked down at her ripped, stained sweater with its unravelling hems and scuffed leather boots with a smile. "I live to vex you. Welcome back, H'run."

"I don't think I want to be back," he muttered as he kissed her on the cheek, then pushed her gently toward M'yvak as well. "Do something about _her_ while you're dealing with the squash."

K'mai laughed. "That must be her way of saying she hasn't changed while you were gone."

"I can do something about you," M'yvak promised Harki with a flirty wink, "as long as A'drios can join in."

A pair of blue eyes rolled at the shameless flirt. "Harki, help me with the wine?" Saibra waggled her eyebrows at the greenrider and waved a bottle in each hand.

"Yes ma'am!" Harki turned to H'run and mouthed 'help me!' before following the Weyrwoman. M'yvak she could deal with, but drinking with the Weyrwoman was a new and terrifying party challenge.

"That would be some unexplored territory for me," A'drios half-murmured at M'yvak. _He_ liked squash. Even apart from the inappropriate appearance.

"I'm a good teacher," M'yvak purred back at A'drios.

Well. A'drios was pretty sure what he would be doing after the party.

"Hello, hello!" L'keri breezed into the weyr, accompanied by the tempting scent of sugar and fresh baking rising from a tin tucked under one arm. "H'run, you're back! We missed you! I was afraid you'd been seduced by the sun-kissed beaches and scantily clad folk of Dolphin Cove and left us for good."

H'run kissed L'keri on the cheek in greeting. "I did consider it. You lot aren't naked nearly enough. Darling, you shouldn't have brought me anything nearly so sweet as this. Just please don't tell me there's a squash in there too."

"We'd be naked a lot more often if it wasn't so sharding cold here," K'mai said as he offered H'run a glass of wine. "You're a brave man for coming back to this weather." He'd been worried H'run would leave them for good, and it would have been his fault. Shards, he didn't know how he was going to make it up to him. But at least H'run was _here_. At least they still seemed to be friends.

H'run accepted the glass of wine as his due. "I am, aren't I? Let me tell you all about Dolphin Cove and what I gave up for you. The air was warm and soft all the time, except at midday - that was horrendously hot. I would go down to the beach to watch the waterball players and they were all _gorgeous_. Bronzed and athletic, and half of them weren't wearing a thing. I can't imagine that it was terribly comfortable to be so _vigerously_ slamming into each other while naked but from the _beach_." He put a hand to his forehead and staggered. "It's such a beautiful sport."

A'drios sighed wistfully.

"It's been too long. I might be due for a restday trip to the beach. Y'all in?"

K'mai lifted his glass. "Absolutely."

“I’ll wear my thong,” M’yvak chirped brightly.

"Just tell them I sent you," H'run said with a wink. "And I guarantee that you'll have the time of your life."
