"We still need to reschedule our outing from the other day," Vaile said to K'far casually. Miravaile was showing him how high she could stack the colored blocks while Moraile was happy to sit in Vaile's lap and gnaw on her fingers.
K'far watched the ever growing tower, every so often offering encouragement and praise.
"I would love to," he said. "You know, I had a surprise for you, before we were ever so gloriously interrupted."
Vaile looked puzzled but curious. "A surprise?"
"All I need is half an hour or so, and I can have it ready for you again." K'far loved surprises, so he could not help but grin. "But it should wait until the kiddos are back in the creche."
Vaile's expression turned sly. "If you want, I can go drop them off and meet you...where?"
K'far's expression was more like an excited canine retriever. He would surely have been wagging his tail, if he had one.
"On my weyr ledge, if it suits you."
Curious as to what K'far had planned, Vaile clapped her hands for the children's attention and gathered them up. "Byyyyeeeeeee," Miravaile cooed at K'far as they piled on to Liranth.
"Bye, kiddo! I'll see you again soon!"
K'far eagerly rushed to ready everything. The flower petals were easy enough to procure-- he knew the perfect visualization for a meadow out near where the old Topaz Seahold used to be before the hurricane that was almost always in bloom with wild flowers. It would not be quite the same as the domesticated redblooms he had procured for the last time, but he had turned those into potpourri, so he had that, at least.
And before he had left to get the flowers, he had generously tipped a couple of lower caverns workers to get him a hot bath drawn in a copper tub and a basket of snackums in his weyr. He also still had the expensive wine he had already purchased.
When everything was ready, and Liranth had delivered Vaile to his ledge, K'far held out his hand to her and smiled. Her expression was curiously guarded as she took it. "What do you have up your sleeve?" she asked of him.
"Nothing scary, I promise." K'far smiled and led her into the glowlit and flower-fragrant weyr before the mystery could become too mysterious for comfort.
Her expression immediately shifted into one of wonder. "K'far, you..." she started to say as her eyes took in the petals, the glows, the tub, the wine, the care, the romance. She turned to face him. "This...how long have you been waiting to do this?"
"I had it all set up proper the first time just before Liranth last rose," said K'far. It was not quite as perfect as it had been. "But it's better this way. Because this time, you're here."
Her fingers tightened around his. Part of her thought that she didn't deserve such romance, her heart shielded from it these last few Turns. Part of her felt floored that she had found someone who had gone to such lengths. "This...is wonderful, K'far," she breathed. She pulled him along as she drifted towards the tub so that her fingers could sweep through the warm water. And then, she laughed. "You romantic," she teased, turning to him with sparkling eyes.
"This is new for me!" K'far insisted. There had never been anyone before he had ever wanted this much to stay around. "Not the bathing. I've done that before."
Vaile laughed. "I do like the way you smell after a bath," she admitted. Her fingers left the water and fiddled with the neckline of his tunic. "So," she said, her voice taking on a sultry hue. "How else did you envision this night?"
K'far could not help but grin. It was never a good idea to take these things for granted, but it was always impossible not to hope...
"Well, I've also decorated the bed..."
Mirth sparkled in her eyes. "Are you going to be upset if we rumple the covers?"
"My love, I would be delighted to rumple the covers with you." K'far kissed her sweetly.
