Description: Tarsenuth is Injured
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 2, day 7 of Turn 13
Notes: Permanent Dragon Injury
One moment, Tarsenuth had been winging through the skies, flaming Thread as it fell, confident in himself as only a bronze could be.
Flame, chew, repeat.
And then the wind changed. Just for a moment. Just enough that a small tangle of Thread blew back, and into Tarsenuth's face.
The bronze roared in shock and pain, and blinked _between_.
Three breaths later, he reappeared-- dropping rapidly, swerving a little bit.
}:There.:{
Thiseta looked up but Imbeth was already moving, her strong golden body angling beneath Tarsenuth’s as he fell. Thiseta braced for impact. **We’ll need Piketh!**
}:I will tell her.:{ Imbeth grunted as Tarsenuth hit her flanks.
**And let Thakkorth know that we will need them,** Thiseta said, twisting in her seat. Tarsenulth’s pale, gleaming body slid toward her along Imbeth’s flanks as the gold tried to balance her own weight with the bronze’s. Ichor splashed against Imbeth’s flanks and against her goggles to mix with the crackdust. **Shells" G’weld!**
Tarsenuth roared, again, baffled and in pain, wings flapping sporadically.
**Stay, Tarsenuth, stay!!** G'weld ordered grimly, and hung on to his riding straps. **Flap, shardit! Don't drop!**
The bronze roared again. }: It hurts!!!! :{
Piketh burst out of /between/. }:I am here, Imbeth.:{ The scarred gold flew up to help bear the brunt of Tarsenuth’s body.
}:Tarsenuth was caught by the Weyrwoman;{ Xmrenth reported to K’lvin, who had craned momentarily in his seat, straining against his riding straps to see as the other bronze plummeted through the skies.
**Tell Tribeth to take Tarsenuth’s place in formation. We need to fill that gap,** K’lvin said, mind racing to put the chess pieces into the correct places.
G'weld wasn't quite sure _how_ long it took for Tarsenuth to make it back to the Weyr. It could have been moments, or it could have been days. His focus was on keeping Tarsenuth calm, keeping the bronze from panicking anew at the pain cycling through both of them.
Tarsenuth landed.
Imbeth moved from beneath him, her rider ducking Tarsenuth’s wing as the bronze twitched. Ichor covered them both and Thiseta wiped her goggles clear, looking for G’weld.
}:You are safe,:{ Imbeth told Tarsenuth, her mindvoice clarion clear as she draped her neck over the bronze’s. }:We have got you.:{
**Do you see his rider?!** Thiseta’s fingers flew over her straps as she unbuckled herself. “G’weld?”
}: … hurt.:{ the bronze responded, but the gold was keeping him calm enough now that he'd mostly ceased thrashing, only twitching his tail.
G'weld fumbled with his riding straps, slid off of Tarsenuth’s back from the uninjured side, only stumbled a little bit when he reached the ground. “... Here. I'm here!” He called. “Oh Faranth… Tarsenuth…”
He paused. “I'm… I'm here, Thiseta. Tarsenuth’s… in a bad way.”
“I know. We’ve got you, all right? You and Tarsenuth are going to be just fine.” She would believe it for both of them until it was true. The Weyrwoman took him by the arm, her gaze snagging on the red staining his sleeve and mingling with the green of his dragon’s ichor. “Piketh and Rasme are excellent healers, both of them. We are going to let them work and be near if they need us, so you are going to come stand with me where Tarsenuth can see you, and I’m going to check you over as well.”
**Tell Thakkorth we’ve got Tarsenuth covered,** Rasme instructed Piketh as the injured bronze was helped into the dragon infirmary.
}:My rider would like an update,:{ Xmrenth said to Piketh.
}:Grounded for now,:{ the retired gold replied to the Wingleader’s bronze.
Up in the air, K’lvin made the necessary shifts in his Wing to be able to fly out the rest of fall with the bronze’s absence.
G'weld nodded, mutely, and let Thiseta half guide him around to the best angle to stand. Faranth… Tars…
“You'll be… you'll be okay, Tarsenuth.” the bronze's rider stated, and tried hard to believe it.
The bronze's tail twitched.
“You’ve got some ‘Scoring too.” The Weyrwoman clamped her hand down over G’weld’s arm and signaled for a Healer. “Tell me what happened, G’weld.”
“The sharding _wind_ is what happened.” G'weld told Thiseta, shakily. “We were making a dive at this big tangle and it blew back on us-- Tarsenuth was too big to swerve in time. It got him right in the face. Apparently it got me too.”
She made a sympathetic face. “Bad luck. I’m sorry. It’s good that you’re both on the ground now.” She reached out to her dragon as well. **Ask Piketh what Rasme is saying about Tarsenuth. Is he going to be all right?**
“Worst luck.” G'weld agreed unhappily. “Sharding…”
**Tarsenuth?** he asked again.
}:I hurt.:{ the bronze responded.
In the dragon infirmary, Rasme was standing at Tarsenuth’s head, ichor staining her work apron and forearms. **Tell them,** she instructed Piketh.
}:He will lose the eye,:{ Piketh reported to Imbeth.
}:But will he fly again?:{ Imbeth asked hopefully.
}:His wings will work again just fine. There’s no reason he won’t be able to fly casually. He won’t be able to use his peripherals, though, which would make him a liability during Threadfall. He might ferry firestone at best during ‘fall.:{ Piketh informed the queen.
“Sounds likely that he’ll be able to fly again,” Thiseta relayed. She gently pulled G’weld’s arm toward herself and began to examine the remains of the sleeve. Threadscore, bad enough, but he was standing and talking which was a good indication of its severity. She pulled a rag from the kit strapped to her hip and pressed it against the wound to help staunch the bleeding until a Healer could get to him. “And so will you.”
“... Right…” G’weld responded, then flinched at the touch-- only briefly. “Shards! .. Right.” They’d be… well. They’d survive.
The bronze exhaled gustily, but the queen’s presence was keeping him calm, now.
